Such a disappointment
Such a disappointment!
I have to say that it's been a while since I've been here and I was looking forward to going.
Big car park so parking wasn't a problem. We went straight through to the Christmas shopping area. Lots of pretty sparkly things sectioned in colour coded areas. Then we wandered through the retail spaces into a little craft market tucked away at the back of the building. Bit of a shame as one's likely to have already bought things plus it was a bit dingy. However the stallholders had some nice things.
We went to have some lunch and can honestly say that it's been a long time since we were so bitterly disappointed and frankly, taken aback.
There were 3 of us eating, my sister and nephew both ordered from the specials menu;-.....a Special Dirty Burger and Salmon and Cod Fritters accordingly. I ordered from the regular menu......Sunday Roast of Chicken Supremes.
The fritters arrived and looked nothing more than a small starter, fortunately she'd ordered triple cooked chips, but they should have been the side not the main part of the dish.
When the Burger came to the table we all thought that my nephew wouldn't make his way through it but he did. The accompaniments weren't big enough to make one feel too full. Consistency from one table to another was off, e.g. The Burger at our table came with 1 onion ring while we noticed that others coming out of the kitchen had 2 or 3 onion rings atop the stack!
My roast chicken was dry and hard and had clearly been overcooked! It came with vegetables in 2 side dishes. As my sister's fritters weren't substantial or hot, I said she should have my dish of green vegetables. I wouldn't have insulted her by giving her the other side dish which was cauliflower cheese. It consisted of 1 SMALL floret in the centre of a shallow dish of what was supposed to be cheese sauce.
I was warned to be very careful of this dish as it was very hot. So hot that the cheese sauce had hardened in the bottom of it!
Desserts - you'd think we'd have known better! But as the next day would be my birthday then 'cake and ice cream was called for!
The pear with the sticky toffee pudding was said to be delicious, the chocolate brownie was rather dry and again quite meagre compared with the sticky toffee pudding.
I wanted ice cream so ordered from 'build your own sundae' The ice cream selection was poor, more vegan varieties than dairy varieties! I didn't mind too much as I like vanilla.
2 scoops, toffee sauce and cream...lovely 😋
The dish arrived as a pool of everything melting together and when I said to the waiter that I'd ordered 2 scoops of ice cream and there's only 1 here not 2 he said
"No, there will be 2" without even looking! In fact all the ice cream was melting on our plates.
Was there anything else we asked?
Yes please, I said, cutlery! Forks arrived so I had to ask for spoons .
We'd ordered coffee at the same time as the desserts and that arrived and was ok.
Then we requested the bill and a waitress brought the credit card payment machine, not the bill for the food we'd had.
It made for an awkward moment as no-one knew quite what to do.
I just tapped my card on the machine while my sister and nephew were saying "no, it's her birthday she can't pay! "
All too late when presented with a payment machine!
Perhaps we may have enjoyed it more in The Snug with the dog but my sister thought it was like a cold dark cupboard!!
We won't be returning in a hurray that's for certain 😕
