Account deactivation with no explanations.
Appen's glory ended years ago.
The bad reviews you will read here are all true. I'm writing this review to denounce their awful service.
One day they decided to suspend my account for violation of their CrowdGen Contributor Standards and not explaining more specifically. The only thing I did was to apply for a project, while i was traveling in another country. Probably standard 4 was violated? This standard is "Contributors must be located where they claim to be. Falsifying location for project eligibility is not permitted." If they had data of my location while applying to the project, then maybe automatically it hit to their system that it was a violation. But there was no falsification on purpose, certainly. I was traveling. Either way, I am not even certain if that was the case, I can only assume! So, when I wrote to them, asking them to explain to me what Standard was violated and why, and if there was anything i could do to avoid future issues, they only responded automatically with the following: "Regrettably, we made the business decision to deactivate your account at this time due to a violation of the CrowdGen Contributor Standards.
If you believe that this decision was made in error, or you have any questions about our standards, please do not hesitate: our dedicated support team is here to help." Help?? I already did that and no one answered to my questions.
I am not affected by their deactivation, it is something I should have done years ago, since I had stopped working with them. And I stopped because the projects simply weren't working. I mean, were they even real?
I don't expect the company to change, or anything. Appen's past glory of 7-8 years ago will never turn back. I don't even think that the bad reviews will affect them. This is just my only way to respond, and at least here someone will read it and it may be of use to them.
DON'T TEACH A.I THIS B.S
Everything sounds so amazing and enticing. Until something can't be done. You aren't able to change your profile. If you can't change your phone number you can't get paid. Well you have to do a ticket. They waste their time, stringing you along with Bull $hit lies for months. NO, IF there was an issue, then the issue should have been taken care of when it was first brought up. not 5 months after the fact. I was emailing them daily to get paid, for the project i was hired onto. They Send you a PIN number and the project number to work. Well, they will send you 10 emails telling you about it, describing it, elaborating about it, and never give you a pin. When you have sent your 10th email asking about the pin, you will get an email, about something irrelevant. That they sent out an email in regards to something that doesn't pertain to you. So back to the PIN number, you send out another 10 emails, and then nothing happens. Months go by, you still don't have the pin. Then they sound apologetic, but there is no sincerity in their emails. They waste your time! Say that they will pay you. And Never do. I had a project in February. They Never sent payment. I emailed, and nothing. THE WORST COMPANY FOR AI. IT IS NOT WORTH THE STRESS.
Looking for remote work? Check elsewhere.
I have worked at Appen/Crowdgen for over 2 years at the time of writing this. To be short and simple, it's independent contract work that lets workers explore numerous online tasks that they can complete to receive compensation; there are sometimes physical, on-site tasks available which require online logging as well. Within the first year, I've enjoyed working towards accomplishing these objectives; the work can be tedious, but it was worth it for the decent pay. However, I have officially decided to give the site/work experience this rating for incompetence, inconsiderateness, and unfairness.
After graduating from college, I have been searching on the side for an actual job both locally and online for the past three-and-a-half years to earn better income and improve my work experience, but I have had no luck—just rejection letters or lack of updates. I've found Appen/Crowd Appen during this time, which I was happy to be a part of after being accepted into their platform and helped break me into remote work.
After the first year, working in the company has been a bumpy road, and it has only worsened overtime. In the dashboard where contractors can sign up for assignments, I have applied to many projects, but almost all of those have either not responded about updates, or they do reach back after months just to say that the project is either full or has been closed indefinitely. I literally have had over ten projects waiting for updates just to be either closed or never heard back from for months. Just recently, one of these projects, which I've been working on for almost a year and was receiving decent compensation, has just announced closure. This same project, which has been in an almost six-month long hiatus, has been emailing contractors for months saying that work will continue the month after again and again, just to ultimately reach back to us about their killing of the project–explaining the reason that "work data has reached its quota and therefore has decided to be completed and shut down." If this is the case, why not have let the contractors, who have been waiting patiently, know months prior instead of waiting?
I sit here writing this with a list of applications for other projects on the site's dashboard that have yet to hear back from, and I've received another email (a total of three so far) stating the closure of a project. I am working double time to find work in another field, and I will hopefully find another company that can have work available for its contractors or at least can inform them of updates and showcase competence and respect for its workers. I am done with Appen/Crowd Appen.
If you are looking for remote work, please continue searching elsewhere. You will only find yourself waiting and waiting like a fool just to be either abandoned or brushed off like they've forgotten that you joined the platform. I have learned recently that there are other independent contracting sites/companies who offer this type of work but have a more professional behavior towards its contractors.
Joke Platform
Simply put, CrowdGen is a joke. Don’t waste your time on this platform.
They list projects that are either already inactive or completely inaccessible. You’ll be asked to go through a series of qualifications, only to be told afterward that the project has been closed.
Even if you meet all their listed requirements—such as location-specific criteria—and successfully pass the qualification, you may still be denied access to the project. If you try to appeal, the helpdesk will respond vaguely, saying they can’t tell you the reason due to internal policies.
Account Deactivated Without Explanation
I was deactivated from CrowdGen with a vague accusation of violating Contributor Standards, which I firmly believe is false. I followed all guidelines and was never warned or informed of any issue beforehand.
When I asked for clarification, they refused to provide any details, making it impossible to understand or respond. The lack of transparency and accountability is deeply unprofessional.
I would advise others to be cautious when working with them. If they decide to cut you off, it seems they won’t give you a fair chance to defend yourself or even explain what went wrong.

A frustrating and unprofessional…
A frustrating and unprofessional experience. I joined CrowdGen with high hopes, expecting a professional and reliable platform. Unfortunately, it fell far short. The platform itself is poorly designed — it disqualifies you from most projects instantly, without any genuine qualification process, even when your profile is complete and clearly demonstrates relevant experience. On top of that, my account was suspended and eventually deactivated for alleged “violations of guidelines,” despite never being given a real opportunity to participate in any projects, so how did I violate anything? When I requested clarification or a review of their decision, I was told no explanation could be provided. Overall, deeply disappointing and not what I would expect from a company claiming to be professional.
A scam platform
This is the worst platform I have come across.signed up back in 2021 in a hope to get job when it was initially know as appen. After transitioning to crowdgen and applied for a role after rigorously passing about 10 exams of different projects, I filed a complain to proceed to work. I found my account suspended for six full month's only to find a heart breaking message of account deactivation. Please don't waste your time precious time on this platform,I'm providing a free advice.
Not worth the time they take unpaid
Zero support on applications if they have site issues. Literally bumps users out of projects with no transparency as to why. Not worth the time and effort they require "applying" for projects.
Complete waste of time
Complete waste of time. Qualification tasks may take quite some time and have you fail without ANY transparency. Tasks you qualify succesfully for may never actually start. Tasks that DO start and get completed by you may not pay at all. Stay away!

after years of collaborating they just decided to close my account by the reason "violation of contributor standards", without any explanation as this was a "confidential information". So declining my right to work is ok but not the reason to this. The payrate was always low but they were always working with desperate people who needed every bit of money.
Scam and waste of time
I signed up with honest intentions to earn extra money.
They are a total waste of time and likely a scam because they require all your personal information.
I signed up, I followed their process including taking their quiz and submitting my photo ID. Then waited. And waited.
And finally I was told my account was being deactivated for "suspicious activity" which they conveniently claimed they cannot tell you why. How convenient. Now they have my personal information and who knows what they will do with it or who they will sell it to.
Avoid them at all costs!
Be careful when giving your personal…
Be careful when giving your personal information to such companies. Their Terms and Conditions are vague, there is no communication when you have issues as a translator/candidate for their projects, and you get told off on their Slack group (by their own employees) when you ask for solutions. I signed up for two projects, gave them my personal info, worked for free (on their so-called practice tests), and then the projects got blocked.
By far the worst customer support…
By far the worst customer support experience. It's just a shitty company paying you 5-7 bucks an hour (which i beyond the minimum of 20 usd) to do the job for companies who wouldn't hire on a regular job and pay regular salary. Also, they have shit ton of technical issues and also if you ever make it to the final stage of production and work for 30 hours straight you may not be paid that same amount. If you have questions or concerns you can dispute it with their customer support who is as useless as their AI jobs. The job is shitty, you work for 1 hour to complete tasks you are not paid for , and then when you have to paid you will be paid less and you can try to say something but nobody would listen. They answer every 3 days with automated templates. I would not recommend CrowdGen by Appen to my worst enemy
Complete scam
Complete scam.

3. Do some unpaid tests
4. Get your account suspended "Under review" forever.
5. Wait longer than a month while project disappears.
5. Congrats you just gave every single information about yourself including CV and banking information
