Culture Yard Reviews 13

I went to Kulture Yard on Sunday, December 24 and got there about 11.30 am. A barman was on duty and I went up to him. He said they would not open until 12pm and I said that I would wait. I also said I hoped we could get a drink to tide us over since we were very hungry (I was there with my sister).

The barman/waiter directed us to a table and we started waiting. He brought out a game (ayo olopon) and I started playing with my sister, hoping he would bring a menu. He never did and I realised he truly wanted to wait till their opening time by 12pm. A this while, I could see people who were obviously staff members moving around.

At 11.55, I got up and went to the bar again. I asked the waiter for a menu since it was virtually noon and he told me to go back and sit, that they would bring it.

We waited till 12.16 pm before we picked our bags and left. We were there for 50 minutes and nobody attended to us. No communication about any delays apart from the initial response that they open by noon on Sundays. No empathy even when I said that we were very hungry, just an appallingly abysmal service.

It is a shame that a rated restaurant could be this bad. I will never advise anyone I know to go to this place.

This is the first time I’ve had a teacher who followed the actual steps of a lesson plan—IOW, she faithfully reviewed the prior lesson’s materials, went through intro of new information, modeling, and guided practice before expecting me to just instantly execute the new info. She also patiently adjusted lessons according to my requests. I felt like I actually learned and retained information for the first time in years.

Great teachers, they really take the time for you to understand the new words for HSK exams

Tried booking a class over WeChat. The class was arranged and I was told by Culture Yard the time, the teacher, etc

Trouble is… the teacher didn’t show up. I was shocked and couldn’t believe I wasn’t notified at an earlier date.

First impressions matter, maybe if they focused more of providing a professional service rather than ‘asking for reviews’ the ratings would be higher.

Advice? Why wait 3 hours after the class was meant to start to contact me and say sorry? Shouldn’t you be monitoring each class to guarantee it’s success?

I took Chinese lessons for 2 years. My teacher, Xia老师 is perfect fit for me. Thanks for her teaching, I could pass HSK 5 grade.( the most highest level is HSK6 grade.) Office staff is very friendly and supportive.

We have been taking the cultureyard.net course via Zoom. Until now, I had studied alone, with a private teacher in person or via Zoom. But the experience of being in class with four other students from four corners of the world and a wonderful teacher in Beijing is really great. I can only recommend this experience to you.

I am currently attending an online HSK4 class with Culture Yard. The pace is quite fast and there is a lot of content but the teacher always does her best to make sure we understand all the grammar elements and the precise meanings of all the words.
Homework feedback is quick and really helpful.
At first I was reluctant to start an online class but I tried part of an HSK3 course and successfully past the exam so I decided to continue with HSK4 and am happy to feel I'm making progress.
I would definitely recommend Culture Yard and the two Mandarin teachers that have taught me so far!

After just a couple of months of touching down in China 4 years ago I saw an ad for Culture Yard which looked like this cool Chinese language school in a real foreign place. I took the 'survival Chinese' course with my mate that I moved to Beijing with and it was the best decision I've made in China. 3 years on and I've converted to taking some online classes. At first I wasn't for it, but after a few classes I soon realised it can be just as good if not better. A huge plus is that we also get the recorded lessons so we can watch them back at a later date or if we miss a lesson. The teachers are excellent and understand you especially when you make mistakes they are great at listening and then explaining how to improve.

Highly recommend if you'd really like to up your mandarin with quality teachers. Oh yeah and the staff are great down to earth people that are easy and helpful to talk with.

I’ve learned a lot and enjoyed the classes at CY. I’ve also learned how to play mahjong.

I have taken many different Chinese language courses over the years and feel that Culture Yard’s curriculum, teachers, and support staff are some of the kindest and most qualified out there. I throughly recommend taking a course with them whether it is a group course or one on one intensive. Culture Yard is the school where I will continue to progress my Chinese language capabilities.

Amazing teachers no customer service
The teacher I had was amazing but the customer service was very poor. Very short sighted as I would have liked to continue with the course until the end and maybe start a new one. But due to the bad customer service I received I have decided to take my business else where.
