Terrible Company

So I want to start by saying that my consultant Carol was amazing. Unfortunately it all went terrible after that. My contract stated that the contractor was supposed to uninstall my curtain rod and then reinstall it after the blinds were installed. He refused to take the curtain rod down, telling me it didn't need to be done. After he left I discovered that because of how close the curtain rod was to the blinds, I could not open or close my curtains as they would get stuck on the blinds. I called the contractor back and he told me that I need to fix it myself. We took the rod down ourselves and then found that the contractor had not bothered to install the right side valance return. I contacted Custom Decorators and received some of the worst customer service I have ever had. I requested the missing return be installed and for a different contractor before assigned as the first one refused to do the job I signed a contract for. Instead thry had the same contractor call me! I again requested they send a different contractor and requested to know what they would be doing about the missing return. I received a response stating there would be a different contractor. I again asked about the missing return and their customer service agent never replied to my email. About two weeks later I got a phone call from another contractor. I explained everything and sent him a picture of my blinds with the missing return. He said he would contact Custom Decorators and get back to me. This was on April 20th. It is now May 7th. No one has reached out to me since.

Do not do business with this company. The contractor they use refuses to follow the instructions on the legally binding contract that I signed and paid for, and then their customer service literally ignored everything I spelled out in emails and the service requests on their website. I'm stuck with blinds that are missing a piece and will have to waste money hiring someone to install a new curtain rod.

Custom Decorators custom draperies

Lowe’s custom draperies
Lowe’s, are you listening?
Though I have always had positive interactions with Lowe’s in the past, and have been pleased with the quality of their products, my attempt to purchase custom made draperies from them came out quite differently.

Three strikes and an insult:
I went to Lowe’s to try to buy a very specific size of sheer draperies. They didn’t carry that size in stock, and referred me to a third party. It was CUSTOM DECORATORS Inc. out of Tualatin, Oregon. I contacted them, told them what I was looking for, gave them the specs, and ended up making a home appointment with one of their reps.
Their rep came to my home, confirmed my measurements, and we worked out the details necessary to get a price for duplicates of my old drapes made.
When the emailed bid came, I noticed they wanted to charge $125 for delivery! As a couple of sheer drapes would only weigh a few pounds, I asked why so high a price? I was told that $125 was their minimum shipping price. It was obviously a sad little scam to keep the change between what I paid and their commercial shipping rate. I decided to continue negotiations, but took note.
Strike one.

So I said I’d accept the price for the drapes, but did not need or want installation, as it only involved removing some little pin hangers from the old drapes, putting them in the same place on the new ones, and hanging them. The rep said they’d need confirmation from management that it would be OK not to have them installed, and I was asked for my payment info. We both understood there was no deal if installation was required at extra cost. As I couldn’t imagine them not doing a $900 deal just because I didn’t want installation, I gave them the payment info. A couple days later I was notified by my bank that some online payments had been rejected due to lack of funds. I checked my account, and found that CUSTOM DECORATORS Inc. had snatched $900+ out of my account before I had agreed to purchase the drapes! The rep was surprised and apologetic, and I was apoplectic!
Strike two.

I told the the rep I wanted confirmation about the non-installation right away, and manufacturing and delivery of the drapes to go forward promptly. The rep had gone several levels up the corporate ladder trying to get an OK, but finally came back and said they would NOT do the deal without my paying an extra $200 for installation! A simple one hour job, if that.
Strike three

And now for the insult:
At that point I’d had more than enough, and asked the rep for my money, which CUSTOM DECORATORS Inc. had improperly taken before I’d agreed to the transaction, to be returned to me. The rep got back to me, and said CUSTOM DECORATORS Inc. would return my money - in FIVE WEEKS!

Bottom line: do NOT do business with CUSTOM DECORATORS Inc! From their nasty little back alley swindles for the overpriced delivery, and unwanted installation, to the premature money grab, and refusal of prompt repayment - which I would describe in darker terms - they are dirt, and dirty the name of Lowe’s too!
Lowe’s, are you listening?
And if you go somewhere else to get custom drapes, maybe we’ve all learned that when referred to a third party vendor, even by large trusted companies, it pays to find out who it is, and thoroughly check their reviews!
