CVS have recently taken over our vets

CVS have recently taken over our vets. Discover today my small terrier needs another tooth removed. The last one was three years ago so you can assign some of the increase to inflation but the cost has doubled to a minimum of £600 including initial consult. Note the minimum because of course who knows what they’ll ‘find’ once they have her. Our only independent vet left is not taking patients as they’ve been inundated. The sooner the CMA enquiry takes place in full, the better.

Please read before getting a pet. Long read.

We transferred care of our two dogs to a CVS practise, also joining their Healthy Pet Club. One of a few in our area. Things were fine until there was a change in flea/worming tablet. There was no option under that Healthy Pet Club membership other than for us to pay an additional amount for prescriptions and then for us to buy a different tablet for each dog. Making the monthly membership fee of the Pet Club almost pointless. We dispensed what was prescribed, trusting the vet. This is effectively private medical health care we are paying for. Shortly after giving the tablets to our pups, the problems started. Within 4 months both our dogs, (both approx 6 years old), had died, one suddenly within 2 months, the other suffered longer. Take from that what you will. Yes, humans suffer reactions to medicines, but there was no option given to us by CVS to use another tablet under their Pet Heath Club. During the following months of the treatment process we experienced the service of their Careline service, it is directed towards making insurance claims easier. That was a joke with the vet practise and Careline effectively blaming each other for the delay in claims being submitted to our insurance company. It was quicker to do things myself as I had to repeatedly chase up outstanding medical insurance claims which at one point reached over £2000. All of this is, (except the insurance company), being under the umbrella of CVS. Now comes the complaint process. Laughable and none existent, contrary to their website. After raising a formal complaint in December 2023, (no reference number given), the situation is now at a point where the Area Regional Manager chooses not to give any update following a face to face meeting. During that meeting it was agreed by the manager and lead vet that I had raised valid points. The meeting ended with the Regional Manager stating she would review papers and come back to me. (A common phrase that is used). That was over 6 weeks ago and since then she has not responded to polite communication asking for any further updates. Please read the companies purpose and the information on their web site and then look at real life customer experiences. The sad thing is this company is buying up other viable options for pet care. Buy up competition and then control the whole market. The only way to avoid such service and associated customer contempt is not to get a pet. I have no personal issue with the main vet who eventually tried to care for our dog(s). I have an issue with the company they are responsible to and also the lead vet who also talks the talk when it suits. I have an issue with vets at the practise who clearly did not view case notes. On that fateful day in October, when I questioned why there was no choice in tablet under the Healthy Pet Club, I was told, it was all about money. Staff knew and admitted it! I was never offered a contribution, it was take it or leave it! I now know in my heart of hearts that after giving those tablets there was no way back for our dogs. Proving that was almost impossible and they know it. I truly believe CVS does not want the best possible care for a customers pet, more the case it wants to make as much money as possible by buying a medicine in bulk and dispensing, irrespective if it may not the best option for the animal. During the treatment process, one vet told me she would never prescribe that tablet to a dog which had a tendency to a certain sensitive condition. It is obvious practises are being directed by CVS head office. Unless I can find a vet I know is not linked to this company, as much as it hurts, I will not get another pet. Taking matters further and telling my truthful story is now my quest, this is my first step in that journey, if their staff will not liaise and try to improve matters for all then so be it. I have tried to be brief. There is a lot more I can truthfully say and evidence.

Don't let this vet rip you off

Our local practice, the Animal Health Centre in Bristol, which had been run for many years by a lovely caring vet has recently been taken over by CVS. Prices have rocketed and further treatments suggested beyond our cat's immediate problem. For example, a biopsy of a simple cyst, which would no doubt profit their own lab.It was the hard sell that I objected to the most. Now moving to an independent vet. It's time vets were properly regulated.

Ripoff Britain

We sadly lost our Milo, a Frenchie to an undiagnosed illness but he went downhill over several months. After a particularly harrowing period of being unwell we took him to Seadown Vets who had previously looked after our pets for many years, and were lovely and caring. CVS have taken them over now and I was shocked to learn that after his overnight stay to re hydrate him (sadly he passed) and his subsequent cremation, we were charged £850. I have moved our remaining dog to a truly independent, local, vet. These large companies are taking advantage of the love we have for our animals regardless of whether you can afford to pay for the over prescription of highly priced drugs that help to boost profits for their greedy accountants.

Sad decline in service and efficiency under CVS

Since taking over local independent vet I have noted a dramatic decline in standards both administrative and sadly clinical. Including :
1) failure to read admission notes resulting in over medicating pet which resulted in
2) overnight stay for my pet who had to be monitored for 48 hours to after overdose
3) CVS then invoiced my for the above overnight stay despite it being as a result of their negligence.
4) After pet was euthanised by CVS they continued to take monthly pet club fees by direct debit for four months until formal complaint was lodged
5) For a different pet prescribed incorrect dosage of medication and then
6) charged me for issuing a corrected prescription
7) currently their “systems” are down and have been for five days so they can’t take calls or review case notes added by MiNightVet also CVS. This is not the first time their IT has failed but no details of root cause are ever shared.
I could go on , the above is purely a sample. It’s my belief ,upheld by my personal experience that CVS investors have no interest in the field of veterinary medicine or indeed customer service. They are motivated purely by a desire to turn a quick buck out of what they see as an under exploited revenue stream . I appreciate it’s a business, but if you’re going to charge such high fees PROVIDE A SERVICE NOT A SHAMBLES

Run by Accountants.

Our local domestic vets were an independent before selling out to CVS. Having remained loyal to the practice and staff for a number of years the time has come to end this relationship.

After having spent£0000's over the years we recently paid £151.63 for the euthanasia of one of our cats.

A family member, some three week later, paid for exactly the same procedure, £46.00 at an independent.

Go figure? One can only conclude that the Group is managed by accountants and the animal welfare is very much a secondary consideration.

Go to a truly independent vet

I only realised that my vets in Paignton who looked after our boxer, were owned by this company, when I was invoiced after she crossed the rainbow bridge. This no doubt explains the massive increase in prices, eagerness to sell lots of high priced treatments, and never seeing the same, inexperienced vet. When we get another dog, I intend to ask any veterinary clinic if they are truly independent.

CVS took over my wonderful independent vet

CVS took over my wonderful independent veterinary practice that were the best around for exotics. My pets vet is fantastic but CVS themselves are money grabbing and vile. The cost of a CT scan increased by 433% and in November 2023 they instigated a new pricing policy now charging for syringes to administer medication. Better still they even overcharged 20 syringes when invoice clearly listed only 10 used.
I would do anything for my beloved pet but I can't afford CVS prices.
It's not the practices fault they have no choice and I've had to leave my wonderful vet just so I'm not another victim of not being able to afford to keep my pet.
AVOID CVS AT ALL COSTS!

Wish I had seen these reviews before…

Regan vets (Prestwich) Wish I had seen these reviews before registering with this clinic in Prestwich.

I had a great vet before I moved cities. Why didn't Regan vets follow the recommendations of my last vet? If my pet records are good enough for me to travel to different countries why weren't they good enough for the vet to follow my last vet's vaccination recommendations. This is the only vet in the history of my animals care that decided not to follow the last vet's recommendations. I have had vets in the USA, Canada and France and in London, however vet decided to not follow the vaccination recommendations.

When.an unnecessary procedure is justified without consulting you - it's a major problem. In the history of medical care of my dog, this is the first time I've ever posted a negative review of a veterinary clinic. It's really concerning when they make decisions for you. I will not be returning to this clinic after the completion of his vaccinations. I have never been so upset with a medical practice. Unbelievable . There is no need to double vaccinate my dog

The worst part is the vet offered no apology and continued to justify her actions
……
*Update. I sent the vet an email that I would finish the course of vaccinations and not return. Emma in turn sent a letter to me stating that she was discontinuing services without completing the course of treatment vaccinations but that they would offered a small refund for one of the vaccinations. Keep in mind that she accused me of being threatening when I stated that I would escalate the complaint. How is that threatening?

This is very unprofessional. Some of the animal clinics are low stocked on vaccinations and I am advised to use the same brand of vaccines. Which means I may have restart his vaccinations.

Do not use this clinic

Heartless

Heartless, incompetent, rude. Claimed to have sent emails when nothing was attached. Lied - manager said he hadn’t heard anything about my concerns when it was him I had personally spoken to 12 days earlier about the issue.
Individual vets and staff can be lovely. Management and how they deal with concerns and formal complaints was shocking!!!

Poor

Some time ago, I cancelled my pet care policy and moved my pet away from this company. I had been with the previous practice for some years who were brilliant - until they sold out to CVS. I found that things had changed on how the pet care and their pet plan was provided which I felt was money saving for the Company although I was paying more and not worth it. Did not like the attitudes of management and I would not use a CVS Vet practice under any circumstances myself and removed my pet from their care ASAP.

Terrible company terrible place to work…

Terrible company terrible place to work I worked at YourVets in Birmingham the place drove me to mental illness I had doctors advice me to terminate my employment, people are rude bitchy, mean, INCLUDING THE MANAGERS made snide remarks about people as soon as they left the room, made me feel extremely uncomfortable and unsafe, very very horrible place to work on top of that they didn’t pay me a whole months wages (it seemed out of spite that my hours had been logged wrong as it has never happened before) and when I asked payroll and my non clinical director to look into it I was told I owe the company money for taking sick days, I was told they took the money I worked for because I took more sick days than I worked so I owe cvs money for that, (which is obviously unheard of) so I took it further using outsourced lawyers from ACAS, and got payed the money I worked for because they where just feeding me lies trying to get away with not paying me for the shifts iv littterly worked. So safe to say this company has left a bad taste in my mouth and tarnished my view on the veterinary industry 100% only a couple of months in and I chose to terminate my employment as the money or there lack of, was not worth what I experienced. No amount of Money is never worth your mental health

Haygate Veterinary Centre, Madeley, Telford

Haygate Veterinary Centre based in Madeley, Shropshire are owned by CVS (UK) Ltd. Haygate have somehow managed to misplace the sacred ashes of my Mum's dog. A Private Cremation had been requested and paid for, as has the Casket the ashes were to be returned to my Mum in. At 10.30am on Monday 19th June 2023, my Mum attended Haygate Madeley to pick the ashes, and it was only then she was told they couldn't find them. Here we are four days later, with no explanation from Haygate, and as for CVS (UK) Ltd, their response is that the practice have upto 20 days to provide my 86 year Mum with a explanation!!!! It is not only deplorable behaviour on both Haygate and CVS (UK) but it is also totally insensitive, uncompassionate and just outright cruel. Please do not allow either Haygate or CVS (UK) Ltd the opportunity to treat your pet or indeed you the owner, in such a inhumane manner.

IF YOU LOVE YOUR PET AVOID CVS GROUP RUN VETS

WARNING HEED THE REVIEWS AND TAKE YOUR PET ELSEWHERE. THE VETS UNDER CVS GROUP ARE TRAINED ON HOW TO EXTRACT MONEY FROM THE CLIENTS AT THE EXPENSE OF YOUR PETS HEALTH AS THEY HAVE TO MEET MONTHLY TARGETS. NOTED IN MEDIA ARTICLE. PURELY PROFIT OVER CARE. NEVER MET SUCH CALLOUS AND INEXPERIENCED VETS WHO DO NOT CARE FOR CLIENTS OR THEIR PETS. MY DOG WAS WRONGLY DIAGNOSED AS PROVEN BY SECOND OPINION. I BECAME SUSPICIOUS AND NO APOLOGY AND I HAVE BEEN CHARGED FOR THIS AWFUL SUBSTANDARD TREATMENT NOW HAVING TO TAKE LEGAL ADVICE AS THEY DO NOT FOLLOW THEIR COMPLAINT PROCEDURE AND LIE THAT ITS INDEPENDENT WHEN ITS NOT . THEY RESORT TO EMOTIONAL BLACKMAIL IF YOU DO NOT HAVE THE INSURANCE EVEN SENDING ME AN E MAIL TO SCARE ME INTO IT SAYING I SHOULD DESTROY MY DOG IF I DID NOT DO THESE TESTS. WHEN THEY DID SUCEED IN EXTRACTING MONEY FROM ME FOR TESTS THEY EITHER COULD NOT INTERPRETATE THEM CORRECTLY OR THEY HAD NO CLUE WHAT THE RESULTS MEANT WHICH SAYS IT ALL.

CVS (UK) LTD charge extortionate prices

My wife and have taken our cats to the same vet for 22 years. All went well until the practise sold out to CSV (UK) LTD.There prices are extortionate. Both of our cats (aged16) are on Thyronorm 100 ml bottle. I normally purchase this from PET DRUGS ON LINE for £48-48. As I was going on holiday and did not have time to order it on line I ordered it from the veterinary clinic and was charged £116-95 for the exact same medicine. When I queried why they were charging so much, and overcharging by £68-47, I was informed that they could not compete with the Online Companies. This is absolute nonsense as CVS (UK) LTD have over 500 Veterinary Clinics which gives them excellent buying power. In my opinion by grossly overcharging they are taking advantage of their customers to make large profits.
A few days ago we had to take one of out cats to the vet as she had been vomitting for a couple of days and appeared to be out of sorts. The vet checked her over and carried out a few tests. He told us to go away for a couple of hours and come back later to collect her. When we collected her we were given the bill which was £620.06. In fairness we were told how much the bill would be. However when we read the bill we discovered a £75.67 charge for HOSPITALISE INPATIENT REVIEW for the two hours we had left her.
We were then told to bring her back the next day and if they needed to observe her that would be a further £400. After a restless night I had decided that we would not allow her to be kept in. The next day she was seen 10-15 minutes and we were charged a further £55,50 consultation fee. Total bill £675-56. Had she been kept in the second day the bill would be over £1000.
This is a ridiculous amount of money for anyone to pay in this day and age of austerity. Fortunately I was in a position to pay the bill but grudgingly. Lesson has been learned and I will not be ripped off like this again.
My advice to anyone who reads this review is to STAY WELL CLEAR OF ANY VETERINARY CLINICS RUN BY CVS (UK)

My local vet told me my dog had conjunctivitis although showed no signs of it but had all the signs of glaucoma. He told me her swollen eye was down to having Chihuahua in her which she hasn't. Followed cvsvets complaints procedure to the letter, they didn't at all. They have not told the truth I have had conflicting information from a vet that is still there stating he felt the original vet was inexperienced but would support his colleague. They have now refused to take part in mediation which I feel would show thier lies and would result in a favourable outcome for me and my dog...... poor show cvsvets

Avoid Ambivet at Ripley at all costs

Ambivet at Ripley used to be pretty good but today I’m horrified by the total lack of professionalism. The only thing that matters is greed. I took my dog in to have his teeth cleaned & one extracted as their vet recommended in March 23. No one rang me to let me now how he was. When I rang them I was told to collect him at 5pm which I did. They’d taken 7 teeth out, he was barely conscious and when I said I’d take him elsewhere for his follow up appointments, their vet laid into me. Basically it was my fault that she’d had to work through her lunch and that I didn’t have to have his teeth done. Hello, animal welfare. Without doubt, the most unprofessional vet I’ve ever met. Awful place, avoid like the plague because all they want is money.

My dog was referred to Rosemullion vets…

My dog was referred to Rosemullion vets in Falmouth for a CT scan. This cost near on £2,000 and whilst I am insured by a very reputable company, the woman I spoke to explained how difficult it would be for them to electronically send the claim for me even though it would cost me £20 for the privilege. So I paid the full amount only to learn from my insurance company that they still will not respond to my claim electronically. On contacting the practice it appears they have send my claim to Careline, another CVS company who will take two weeks to process it! Sadly my dog may not be here in two weeks and I can do without this extra stress. Please think carefully if you are referred to any CVS vet practice.
