Excellent customer service

I felt the need to write this review, even though I ended up without a helmet (explanation further down). Based on head circumference I ordered an Ocean Edition helmet in Medium, with a 20% discount available at the time. Unfortunately, it was too narrow and I couldn't even get it onto my head. So, I ordered a Large and although I could get it onto my head, it was still too narrow (pinched, even without a skullcap on). Regardless of this, I was hugely impressed with the quality of construction and the clean lines - a perfect urban helmet. And the environmental ethos of the helmet was also a reason for ordering from Dashel.

The reason I've posted a review is to highlight the great customer service. The two helmets were sent free delivery - and the returns also were free delivery. So in the end, I didn't lose any money - Dashel lost money because of their great customer service.

In addition, Mich sent two very helpful emails in connection with my experience.

Bottom line is that helmets are very individual and I do have a wider head and so having a "no cost returns" policy really helped me to figure out if the helmet fit. If Dashel ever switch to a more "roundhead" shape, I'll be first in line to order one.

I absolutely love my helmet

I absolutely love my helmet. I have the green carbon one. I have a few bikes and a few helmets but the Dashel one is the only one I’d be happy to wall-mount while not in use as it’s truly a thing of absolute beauty. I was even apprehensive to use it the first time! In use, it’s comfy - once I sorted the padding (I have an odd shaped head), easy to (un)clip one handed in gloves and light enough not to bother me on a ride.

One of my favourite things about it is though (admittedly silly) is the way, when digging into a headwind or pushing hard along to tarmac with my head down, I can see the carbon weave in the peak above my glasses.

As it happens, I have mostly used it in the cold and rain so far and given the design, I find it is warmer than my other helmets and given my intended use, that is a good thing. If I was going out for a blast in mid summer on my road bike, this might not be the one to pick but I will likely wear it more than any of my others because here in the uk we have such variable conditions.

Also, on an E-bike - for a social and easy ride, to the pub or cafe, it’s an extremely stylish lid (and ‘coincidentally’ matches my E-bike’s colour too). Far less dorky when off the bike is a massive bonus.

Comms from the team in my experience were quick, friendly and helpful throughout - I am impulsive and annoying so had got in touch after ordering to see when it would show up. All was well.

I’ll be buying another in due course. Shiny black next time.

Daylight robbery

If I could give no stars I would. Bought a £200 carbon fibre helmet. Nice helmet, but the trim started to detach itself after one use. Emailed them, was offered replacement, and told it would arrive next day. Of course it didn't, Parcelforce were merely 'advised' of a consignment, but the consignment didn't arrive.

Customer service useless. The person you want to speak to, is always 'in a meeting' or 'answering other calls'. A 'receptionist' cannot help you in any way whatsoever, other than to say she'll pass on a message.

All rather a shame, because the helmets are nice, stylish even. But I would NEVER deal with them again. They have my £200 and I have a poorly finished helmet. I shudder to think what would have happened had I asked for a refund. I made the best of a bad job, and glued the trim on myself, as best I could. But imagine paying £200 for the privilege of doing that ... !

This company talks the talk but does NOT walk the walk. If something goes wrong, you are on your own; they simply do not want to know. Quite cynical, and the opposite of the progressive ethos to which they'd have you believe they adhere.

If you can get a helmet elsewhere, I suggest you avoid Dashel.

Hi Bill,
We have been in constant communication with you about this. You were immediately offered a refund, or a replacement, by our Operations Director Mark. You chose to be sent a new helmet instead. As you had thrown away your box and could not return the faulty one, we have sent you a new helmet, on trust, to your address in Northern Ireland without waiting for the old one to be returned. The tracking shows the helmet is out for delivery. Sorry that Parcelforce did not fulfil the next day service that we paid for, but with Covid and Brexit all postal services seem to be in turmoil. This is out of our control.

Since Covid we have had to work remotely, so unfortunately our receptionist is not in the same building as Mark. She says that you were rude and abusive to her on the phone. There really was no need to bully her, when Mark is in contact with you and I can see from his mails that he is unfailingly polite, helpful and professional.

We are sorry that the factory did not add sufficient glue to the cosmetic trim and from the outset we have set out to rectify this. Luckily each helmet has a serial number so we can work out who made it and what went wrong so it doesn't happen again.

We state on our website and all forms that every customer is entitled to a refund or an exchange. We hope that you are honest enough to send us back the faulty helmet with the free returns labels you have had since the outset. Ideally both helmets for a full refund, as we'd rather you wore a different brand.

Thanks,
Catherine

Great helmets

Great helmets, we have two, however I have found their customer service to be extremely poor. I have been trying to buy a 3rd carbon helmet for months. At the early stage communication was fine however, in the past 6-8 weeks I’ve sent multiple emails and called several time, each time someone tells you they can’t get through but they will take a message and someone will call back (answering service?)... Needless to say they never do. Very frustrating!
