Review summary

Based on reviews, created with AI

Most reviewers were somewhat happy with their experience overall. Many customers expressed dissatisfaction with the quality of the products, frequently noting that items fell apart at the seams or were made from flimsy, delicate, and often sheer fabrics. The pricing was also a common concern, with many feeling that the cost was too high given the perceived low quality of the garments. Some people were dissatisfied with the return and refund policies, finding them unclear, complicated, or restrictive, often only allowing exchanges or store credit rather than full refunds. There were also mentions of issues with product sizing and discrepancies between the actual product and its online representation, such as color and length.

I an so glad I didn't check the reviews…

I an so glad I didn't check the reviews before I ordered from this company, because I really love what I've got and the customer service was the best I've ever experienced 10/10. The dresses are my favourite thing to wear. One of the dresses I ordered snapped the elastic while I was wearing it so I emailed them about it snd they replied almost immediately and offered me a new dress plus 20% off my future order and a free shipping return label. I couldnt ask for more- the dresses are so beautiful and I'll definitely be ordering more clothes from them

These dresses are terrible quality fabrics and sewing. 👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻
The whole concept seems exploitative if you actually visit their store and see how terrible the quality is in every single style. Way wayyy overpriced. My dress ripped on the second wear from walking past a door and I am sooo glad I did not purchase more. They only post 5 star reviews submitted on their website. The entire brand has no credibility when they do that. Steer clear

Not easy and to expensive to make a return.

I got a beautiful dress Kyra Maxi Coral - but much to big for me.
The return and refund policy is much to complicated - and very expensive to make a return.
The dress is beautiful, but not easy to make a refund - You could have much more succes, if you offer or send a return label with the dress.
I am not sure I want to order dresses again.
Reading the refund problems people have.

Hello,
Thank you so much for taking the time to share your feedback and we’re really glad to hear you loved the Kyra Maxi in Coral 🌺

We’re genuinely sorry that the sizing didn’t work out for you and that the returns process felt complicated and costly. As a small, slow-fashion brand, returns shipping is currently the responsibility of the customer, which helps us keep our pricing as fair as possible while supporting our artisans and handmade processes. That said, we completely understand how this can feel frustrating, especially when a piece isn’t quite right.

Your suggestion about including a return label is appreciated and has been shared with our team. If you’re ever unsure on sizing in the future, our support team is always happy to help with fit advice before ordering, or to explore exchange options where possible.

If you’d like to reach out with your order details, we’d be more than happy to assist you further. You can contact us at hello@daughtersofindia.net

Hello Hannah,

Thank you for taking the time to share this with us. We’re really sorry to read this and to hear that you’ve felt disappointed with your purchases.

Our garments are handmade in India using traditional block printing techniques, and natural fabrics such as soft, lightweight cotton. Variations in print placement or slight pattern irregularities can occur as part of this artisanal process, they aren’t production faults, but we understand that this aesthetic isn’t for everyone.

We also want to gently clarify that our pricing reflects far more than fabric cost alone. Each piece supports skilled artisans, fair wages, small-batch production, and the slow fashion processes that are at the heart of our brand. However, if the pieces didn’t feel aligned with the value you expected, we truly regret that they missed the mark for you.

Regarding our returns policy, we know this has been a concern for you previously. While we do outline this clearly prior to purchase, we are always reviewing our policies in line with both industry standards and the sustainability commitments we operate under.

If you’d like to reach out to our support team with your order details, we’d be more than happy to assist you further. You can contact us at hello@daughtersofindia.net

Hello,
We're really sorry to hear this has been your experience, that’s absolutely not what we want for our customers, especially with a piece you’ve invested in.

Our dresses are handmade using traditional techniques, and while this is something many customers value, it never should result in seams failing or garments needing repeated repairs. We take quality concerns very seriously and would truly appreciate the opportunity to look into this for you and make things right.

Extremely Poor Quality

I wore the Bhoomi Mini dress two times since I got it last Saturday. I adored it, but my excitement was short-lived when I discovered that the material tore easily from a slight tug.

Have I simply wasted $150? I am truly shocked that an item of this price could have such poor quality. I am genuinely disheartened, and extremely sad by this.

I anticipated this dress being a go-to piece for me, one that I could wear repeatedly. Yet, the fabric is excessively delicate. So thin beyond belief.

Not worth the risk

D.O. India used to be a nice brand with soft flowing fine cotton block garments from India. They took returns and the business seemed in line with what is right. Now, the fabric is rough, colours do not match what is in their photos, and they do not do returns, only credits. I have had enough experiences with them now to know there are no pieces I want to swap my latest return order for …. I want a refund. The colour was way off and the item was not what was expected. I don’t recommend the risk ordering from them, unless you want your money sitting there waiting to be used on just anything if things don’t work out; I am being forced to buy something I don’t need or want

Disappointed: seems came loose after first wash

Actually I am quite disappointed at this moment. I wore this dress < 5 times and just - very gently - cold handwashed it for the first time. Upon hanging it, I noticed the seam at the neckline already had come loose and had formed a gap of 4 cm… this feels like very poor quality. I’m so disappointed because I’ve treated this dress as a garment so special - now it feels like fast fashion still.

Edit: DoI have offered to cover the cost of bringing the dress to the repair shop. I don't know how often this happens, I would've liked to see a reassurance that this (almost) never does. But while it's a satisfactory solution, this shouldn't happen after the first wash. Based off the (otherwise very friendly customer service email) I don't think I'll be shopping here again.

Edit #2: More kudos to the customer service. Nice person who really thinks along and takes you seriously. I'm currently waiting for a partial refund which I find a good solution here.

Mini dresses are made for very very short people

I purchased 3 mini dresses. They are way too short. On their website they are advertised as being 4-7cm longer which makes a huge difference when it comes to mini dresses and their length. I am only short too so I don’t understand how anyone who is medium height or tall wears these. All the models advertising these dresses show that they reach just above the knee. On me they barely cover my bum. Really bummed. I have contacted them but awaiting a response. Hope to return them for a full refund as I don’t wear long dresses.

In reply to the Daughters of India…

In reply to the Daughters of India response to my recent complaint about a dress with a dye mark on the front of the skirt.

Your initial response was less than helpful, and because of the size of the dye mark this garment should never have left your premises. On Jade a dye mark is very obvious. I gave you the opportunity to put things right but your response was negative.

I have now taken the poor dress to my alterations lady and she is in the process of removing the skirt from this dress and thereby cutting out the mark. The dress is a Kyra which has plenty of fabric, and so I am hopeful that this action will provide a solution to the problem you so kindly left me with.

I am in no doubt that had I been permitted to return it to you at my cost and received a 'gift card', you would then have charged me again with shipping of any replacement garment.

You are well aware of how I feel about your company and actions and I have nothing more to say on this sorry subject.

Hello Pamela,

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We’re truly sorry to hear how disappointed you’ve felt throughout this experience. We never want any of our customers to feel unsupported, and it’s clear from your message that this situation has caused frustration.

Our artisans create our garments using traditional hand-block printing and dyeing techniques, which means every piece will naturally carry its own small unique markings. These are not considered faults, but part of the character and beauty of handmade textiles, and this is why our team assessed the picture of the dress as not defective.

That said, we absolutely appreciate that this particular marking did not feel right for you, and we’re sorry that our response didn’t meet your expectations at the time.

We’re glad to hear your alterations lady was able to assist in creating a solution that works for you, and we genuinely hope the dress becomes something you feel happy wearing.
Our intention is always to support our customers in the best way possible, and we will take your feedback on board as we continually work to improve our service and communication.

If there’s anything further we can help with, we’re here.

Overpriced - very flimsy fabric, significantly different to the photo's on website, I would call the dress i received cream not white and sizing not accurate.

Hello Cindy,
We’re so sorry to hear you were disappointed with your purchase. We truly value your feedback and appreciate you taking the time to share your thoughts. 🌿

Our dresses are made from lightweight 100% cotton to create a soft, breathable feel, and each piece is hand made by artisans in India ~ meaning slight colour or print variations can occur from one garment to the next. We completely understand this may not be to everyone’s preference and we do our best to reflect the colour in different lighting conditions as well as ghosted imagery on our website.

Poor quality

I’ve purchased three dresses as I am trying to support slow fashion brands and all three developed tips along the seems within weeks.

Unfortunately the material is so flimsy that the dresses I purchased at least, couldn’t withstand gentle use which included hand washing and line drying and only lasted a few wears.

Hello Lisa,

Thank you for taking the time to share this with us.
We’re so sorry to hear about your experience, as this is certainly not the standard we strive for.

Bad quality

I bought the Kyra dress and after 1 wash the clothes dont look new anymore. Bad quality. I dont recommend. Too overpriced for the quality and returns or exchanges are bad. Do not buy.

No size exchange sale

I bought a dress that was on sale - it was a bit snug so I contacted them by email to ask if I could exchange it for another size.
Unfortunately for me, company policy doesn't allow a size exchange on a sale item even when they have the stock. The company policies are ruthless.
I thought I'd have a lovely dress for summer but I won't be able to wear it so I'm unable to review the dress.
I wouldn't recommend DOI

Hello Tracey,

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with us.
We’re truly sorry to hear that your recent purchase hasn’t been the right fit and that our final sale policy has left you feeling disappointed. We completely understand how disheartening it must be to have a dress you were excited about, but can’t enjoy as you had hoped.

As outlined in our returns policy, items purchased on final sale are not eligible for return or exchange. Because many of our final sale garments are only available in very limited numbers, we’ve found that by the time an exchange is processed, the requested size is often no longer available. For this reason, we’re unable to facilitate size exchanges on these 'final sale' pieces.

That said, if you haven’t already, please feel free to reach out to our customer care team at hello@daughtersofindia.net with your order details and what garment and size you were hoping for and we'll always do our best to help wherever we can.

We truly value your support of small slow-fashion garments and hope that in the future we can provide you with a piece you love and feel amazing wearing.

With kindness,
Daughters Of India

Cute design but very low quality

Cute design but very low quality.
Dresses are see through, and a bit too short. Fabric is extremely thin.
After a few washes (hand wash) it does shrink a bit.
Overall the price is way too high vs the quality.

Hi Axelle,

Thank you so much for taking the time to share your thoughts with us.
We’re genuinely sorry to hear the dress didn’t meet your expectations.

Our garments are lovingly handmade by skilled artisans in India using 100% cotton, which is a natural, breathable fabric that can feel lighter and more delicate compared to synthetic materials. Because of this, some dresses can feel sheer or lighter than expected, and slight changes like shrinking after washing can happen if care instructions aren’t followed exactly. We always recommend gentle hand washing and air drying to maintain the fabric’s integrity.

We understand fit and length are very personal, and our detailed sizing chart is designed to help find the best match. We appreciate all feedback as it helps us improve our product descriptions and transparency.

If you’d like to explore returns or exchanges, our policy is available here: https://www.daughtersofindia.net/policies/refund-policy.

Please feel free to reach out anytime at hello@daughtersofindia.net ~ we truly want you to feel happy and supported.

Much love and gratitude,

Ordered a dress which is very see through and less colourful than shown online. No refund permitted and communication generally off putting. Wish I'd read these reviews and the Reddit thread on them before ordering!

Hi Becca,

Thank you for sharing your experience, we’re truly sorry that your dress didn’t meet your expectations. It deeply saddens us to hear this because we want every customer to feel beautiful and confident in our special pieces.

We acknowledge that some of our dresses are sheer by design to keep that light, beautiful feel, and we try to note this on each product page. However, we hear that this wasn’t clear enough for you, and we're sorry for that. We do have a selection of beautifully lined dresses if you prefer something with more coverage, and we’d love to help you find the perfect style or colour way.

If you haven’t already, please reach out to us directly at hello@daughtersofindia.net ~ we really want to connect and see how we can make this right for you.
We care about your satisfaction and we’re here to listen and support however we can.

Thank you again for your honesty and for giving us a chance to improve.

With gratitude,
