SumUp favors scammer merchants
On 08 August 2025, I paid a BGN 2,500 deposit to a car rental in Sofia using a SumUp POS terminal (SumUp Tuenti Eit Mod Sofia BG). The deposit was not refunded, no contract or receipt was given, and the merchant stopped responding.
I reported this to SumUp via every official channel, submitting documents and transaction details. I never received any answer, acknowledgement, or support.
In my opinion, SumUp’s ongoing silence and complete lack of action are indistinguishable from the behavior of the merchant who defrauded me. Both parties ignore my requests and offer no contact or resolution. If this isn’t collusion, I genuinely don’t know what is.
I expect a payment provider to monitor their merchants and support customers when issues arise. Based on my experience, SumUp did not provide any assistance or transparency.
Avoid SumUp and its services, know that in case of problems you could find yourself alone with SumUp laughing at you.
