Delta Dental Fraud Ignoring Claims
I had dental surgery last year. I submitted my claim. Delta Dental ignored the claim. I sent follow ups, called, then sent certified mail. Delta Dental continued to IGNORE my claim. How is this company allowed to operate in the United States when this company actively steals and actively commits fraud against its customers? Where is the class action lawsuit against Delta Dental for their scams, fraud, and other illegal business practices? I am forced to use this company and yet the company just keeps taking my money and won't process my claim.

Does not cover sealants and only a percentage for cavities. You end up paying for a policy that only pays half of what you paid for the policy. End up paying more than you would not being covered. Total rip off!
Delta Dental is just horrible
One star is one star too many. They're OK for getting a cleaning and an initial exam, but I need an endodontist for a root canal, and Delta Dental just doesn't help. It can't tell me endodontists who accept the plan. The endodontists they give me say they do NOT take my plan. Then Delta customer service gives me an emergency form and says Delta will cover the work on a contract, but the endodontists Delta gives me won't accept the form. I think Delta Dental is a fraud. Period. AARP should be embarrassed to endorse these rip-off artists. Shame!
Terrible communication. Lies about claim coverage.
Was told they would cover my daughter’s crowns and when it came time they denied the claim. August 2025. Was sent multiple times over 7 months and finally they said they would cover AFTER the crowns are inserted. Now 2026 and I no longer carry them bc most places have dropped them, the dentist contacted me about setting the crowns . I went in had to pay the dentist $1640 which was half. After the insertion on crowns delta agin denied now bc it was 2026 and I no longer carry them. I am so outraged and feel like I was scammed. If they weren’t going to pay at all they should have never told them to go ahead and insert the crowns. Needless to say I had to pay for everything out of pocket. Such terrible communication in their part with my dentist. I do not recommend Delta Dental.
Denial of Claim
After several attempts to receive payment for a partial plate for upper bridge, Delta Dental denies the claim indicating that an implant for one tooth (which they paid the bare minimum) covers the cost of the entire partial plate of several teeth. According to Delta Dental, they will only pay the least amount, be it one tooth or eight teeth to be replaced for the entire upper bridge. My dentist said he has never seen such a "blatant denial of a claim." Customer service is basically individuals reading from the manual with limited knowledge.
Avoid DD at all costs.
I went into my dentist office this morning and discovered that my Delta Dental of Iowa policy was cancelled after one month. No communication from DD. I have no idea why it was cancelled after one month. This is the second time they cancelled a policy. The first one was because I thought I was enrolled in autopay. I wasn't, I guess, but they made no effort to contact me. DD is a scam.
Contact your Dept. of Insurance to investigate
Trust pilot is excellent for reviews. Why don't people flood their Dept. of Insurance with their complaints about Delta Dental so someone with power can investigate them. ( I did this years ago over medical bills with good results.) I almost bought a delta dental plan before reading reviews.
Coverage is an absolute joke
Coverage is an absolute joke. Won't cover routine preventative x-rays at standard frequency. I'd be better off if I didn't have the plan and premiums at all and just paid out of pocket. Yikes.
Trailer Park Dental Insurance
They are a horrible company with incredible good marketing and misleading antics. You are better off paying for dentistry out of pocket with a dentist that really cares about the patients. More money up front, save THOUSANDS in the long run. Also the new "Million Dollar Smile" plan Delta is rolling out is a scam. They still only pay 40% (of their low allowable fee) and leave the patient with 60%. Even tho it is advertised as 'NO MAXIMUM / UNLIMITED.' I bet that list EVERY ADA Dental code as a covered benefit on those new plans so ever In-Network dentist is required to lose all profit back down to their low allowable fee.
How can a company so large be so…
How can a company so large be so incompetent? No one seems to know where anything is in the process. Their customer service either doesn’t care or doesn’t know. I don’t know which is worst. I do not recommend.
Absolute worst dental insurance company…
Absolute worst dental insurance company around. Do yourself a favor and stay far away from them.
Coverage is not what it seems.
There is no easy way to file a claim. If the claim is not completed exactly as needed it is discarded and the the insured person is not informed. The terms of the coverage are not fully disclosed making one think you have more coverage than what is actually covered. I don't know why AARP sends me flyers for this charade.
Delta Dental is a complete waste of…
Delta Dental is a complete waste of money. I paid $761 for one year. I thought it would help if I had any more dental emergencies. (Had a $6000 bill the previous year.) The max they pay is $2000, so my max net benefit would be ~$1200. It wasn't much but I thought I'd try it. About 4 months after I signed up, two teeth broke and I needed implants and crowns. I had specifically checked to see if major work was covered in the first year - the answer was yes. Only when I needed the coverage, it turns out that the work is covered in the first year, but only after 9 months!!! I filed the claims for the work. Only the extractions were covered, but it was better than nothing. After filing twice and DD telling me they didn't have the claims, I called. The first rep was completely useless and rude. I finally asked for a supervisor, who confirmed that they had something. She asked for a bunch of stuff that wasn't asked for in the claim form, and other stuff too. It was completely stupid. So now three months later I see they have reimbursed me $74 for a $345 procedure. This is supposed to be 50% of their PPO Max Allowance, but they don't allow access to their PPO allowances, so there is no way to know how much they will reimburse. DD's estimate of the cost of the procedure is $248 - $346. I would have thought their allowance would be somewhere close to this, but obviously not. All around, Delta Dental Insurance is a complete waste of money. It's pretty much a scam. If you want just cleanings, it's probably best just to pay your dentist. My dentist offers a deal for cleanings equal to what Delta Dental would cover for $250 less than my DD premium.
the worst insurance company -- so…
the worst insurance company -- so bureaucratic and unresponsive. Wouldn't pay claims unless they go through the VA first. So why do I even pay for insurance?
Delta Dental Insurance is worthless in…
Delta Dental Insurance is worthless in central Virginia! I called their 800 sales number and asked if my dentist was covered and told yes. I signed up online and gave my credit card infomation and paid each month beginning in December 2025. I just found out their policy only covers their "approved" dentists and after calling several on their "approved list" most of them in my area are not accepting new patients. I tryed to upgrade my policy "not allowed" until next year.? Then I tryed to cancell the policy and that isn't allowed. We had their insurance years ago and I didn't check their google reviews (my mistake). Please do not trust this company!
Worthless
I highly agree with these reviews. Delta Dental likes to take your money and not deliver. I sent a cancellation request in January, did I receive a reply? NO Do I continue to get charged? YES This is the worst run company I have ever experienced. Absolutely NO customer service.
I bought what I thought was reliable…
I bought what I thought was reliable dental insurance only to be completely disappointed. The website is confusing and hard to navigate, and when I tried to use my benefits, I was met with repeated claim denials for reasons that made no sense. Every attempt to speak with customer service ended in waiting on hold or being passed around with no real answers. They lost paperwork I sent and never explained why services that were supposed to be covered got denied. After months of wasted time and no support, I feel like this company took my money and gave nothing in return. Terrible experience overall — save yourself the hassle and look for another insurer.
Very poor customer service.
Very poor customer service.
My representative repeated the same scripted answer again and again.
No real attempt to help me as an insured.
Delta Dental should be barred from…
Delta Dental should be barred from offering cheap companies cheap insurance. The company literally is nothing more then a groupon for teeth cleaning and fillings. Their maximum coverage per year is a joke, and has not been increased in years. Companies offer Delta Dental just to make them appear as though they offer full comprehensive health. It is a lie, nothing is covered under Delta Dental , actually nothing is even discounted. it's a scam.
Terrible predatory company
Opaque documentation, delayed payment for treatment for months due to “lack of information” that was readily available and provided by dentist. Extremely difficult to find the right customer service number, issues actually getting connected when you find the right number. Predatory company.
