Dismal on-line subscription experience.

I give them three stars because the on-line subscription service is a diabolical mess. It was a mess last year, and it's still a mess 12 months on. Every year I have a problem when purchasing a subscription (renewal is not on offer!!!).

I strongly recommend the good old fashioned way, which is to phone them up to buy a subscription.

Customer service is very good, they generally get the subscription mess sorted out quite quickly.

And the magazine itself (PC Pro in my case) is excellent, the digital edition gets 4/5 stars, I'm knocking off a star because every now and then a new page flashes up on my iPad before going blank. I reported this months ago, they said they were aware of this problem....and the problem continues.

Signed up for a puzzle magazine…

Signed up for a puzzle magazine subscription for which I am supposed to receive a free puzzle book and the next thing I know is I'm getting an email stating I've signed up over the phone for a subscription to your The Week magazine and that I'll be getting charged £6 initially and then a hefty subscription fee thereafter! I DO NOT WANT THIS SUBSCRIPTION!! I told the person on the phone I did not want any other subscriptions!!
Now reading all the other reviews on here makes me nervous and I will be contacting the police if anything comes out of my account. I hope you are reading this Dodgy Dennis!! CANCEL THIS IMMEDIATELY AND REMOVE ALL MY DETAILS!

Hi Sarah,

I am so sorry to hear that someone has placed an order using your account details, and you have been a victim of fraud. We do recommend speaking to the police immediately and making them aware. We also recommend speaking to your bank for advice as they can ensure your account is protected and can refund any amount that was stolen.

As you will have seen below from my various responses, unfortunately Dennis Publishing was targeted by fraudsters who attempted to set up payments to test stolen bank details. We offer various subscription deals to our magazines - such as 6 issues of the Week Magazine for £6. Normally, if a fraudster has obtained someones private details, they will normally place small order payments to test if the details are correct and active. Testing stolen account details on small payments is a pattern we have reconsidered fraudsters often use, because smaller payments are harder to trace and detect as fraud compared to big payments such as purchasing a television or a holiday for example.

Please can you contact Dennis immediately on 0330 333 9490. We will cancel this fraudulent subscription and block your details, and add them to our blacklist, to prevent them from being used again. Please understand that we at Dennis publishing take fraudulent activity very seriously, and rest assured we at Dennis Publishing are doing everything we can to avoid further details being used and unauthorised payments being made. We are receiving less and less complaints regarding fraudulent activity due to the success of our Data Protection teams continuous hard work isolating and preventing fraudulent activity. I can assure you that no details have been acquired from Dennis or the subscription company as our subscribers details are stored securely.

I hope this information has been helpful and please do not hesitate to contact me if you need any further assistance.

Fraud

Taken £12 out of my account by the week limited. Never subscribed to this company, so I am totally unaware of how they got my details. If I am correct, they may have them from years ago when I was desperate for a loan and they unlawfully purchased them from a fake loan shark. I have informed my bank immediately, as it is before 4 o’clock today, I will be reimbursed. How many do they get away with though? Not everyone has the time to check their bank account immediately

Disappearing issues on Fortean times app

Having spent some £16.00 on the it happened to me special issues of Fortean times within the app. I was somewhat disappointed when they disappeared. I was even more disappointed when after nearly two months of chasing , the customer services have gone quiet about resolving this. It’s simple either give me my money back or just provide me access to these issues. It really isn’t difficult.

Just to add to the alarming list of people who have had direct debits set up on their accounts without permission. I love that they have alll received a copy and paste email but no real explination or solution as to why this is happening. If it was some "fraudster" as they are so often claiming, why would they all use these bank details to pay for a crappy magazine? I don't want your excuses, I want my £24 back!!

Just had notification that a subscription has been setup for The Week (I once had a sub years ago), they have all of my details but this is definitely fraud.

Just as all the other reviews show - this is a fraudulent criminal business that should be closed down.

DESPITE THE REPLY confirming that this is fraud, Dennis Publishing are the ones doing it and resubmitting direct debits for my bank and ignoring all contact that I attempt (other than this review). Confirmed criminals - the police must get involved now.

Fraudulent subscription

I feel this company needs to investigate further and if anything get the police involved as it is very distressing for people knowing that their details are flying around the place like this. I am looking back at all your comments and this seems to be happening for quite a while.. so why has this not been sorted yet!!!!!! I wish I could have given minus 100 stars! Fraudulent company that set up subscriptions without your knowledge and take money from you without permission. They'll ignore your emails, and claim they've got scammers using their name. If they weren't involved then they would at least check that the account details are correct before setting up a direct debit, but my address and prefix don't even match my account! Any responsible company will check this to stop scammers, so it's obvious that Dennis are the scammers themselves. I am telling you now Dennis publishing, if you take one penny from me you will have the police to deal with.

I’ve been not well for a while and was going over my account and noticed a payment for £40.49 for the Week Ltd. I’d never heard of this company so googled them and found out it’s a magazine company. Contacted my bank and discovered that a £1 payment had been taken in April which is a sign that you are about to be scammed. Unfortunately due to health I didn’t notice so they then started taking money by direct debit. No idea how they got my details and I’ve never received anything from them but this fraudulent company needs investigating 😡

Hi Beverly

Thank you for contacting us immediately.

Firstly, I am very sorry to hear that you have been unwell for a while, and I hope you are feeling much better now.

I am so sorry to hear that you have been a victim of fraud, and may we apologise for the inconvenience this has caused you. We take this matter very seriously and investigate all reports of fraudulent behaviour. Unfortunately, our subscription company has been targeted by fraudsters who attempt to set up payments to test stolen bank details. Please let me reassure you that your details have not been acquired from Dennis Publishing, or our subscription company, as all subscription details are stored securely.

Unfortunately, it looks like someone has used your details to take out a Dennis Magazine subscription as a test to see the card is active and can be used - and this is what the £1 payment was indeed. Regrettably, at this time we are unable to source who gave us your details as this information has not been provided by the fraudster. We are also unable to record the location of where the order was submitted as we do not currently store IP address.

There are two things you need to do now. One: as you said you have already done, we strongly advise that you to contact your bank, as they will take the necessary steps to insure your bank account is protected against fraudulent activity and should refund the stolen amount. The second thing I also advise you to do is inform the police of this fraudulent action. You could also contact Action Fraud to register the activity and they will log the issue and provide you with a crime number. Their website can be found here: https://www.actionfraud.police.uk/ Further useful information regarding how to deal with fraud can be found at the Citizens Advice website: https://www.citizensadvice.org.uk/debt-and-money/banking/banking-security-and-fraud/

Please can you contact us with your details at 0330 333 9490 or subscriptions@dennis.co.uk We will then cancel this subscription immediately, to ensure no further payments are taken from your bank account. We will also block your details, and add them to our blacklist, to prevent them from being used again.

We are very sorry that this fraudulent attack has happened to you, and rest assured we at Dennis Publishing are doing everything we can to avoid further details being used and unauthorised payments being made. I can assure you that no details have been acquired from Dennis or the subscription company as they are stored securely.

I hope this information has been helpful and please do not hesitate to contact me if you need any further assistance.

Kind regards,
Joe - Subscriptions Administrator

A direct debit was set up using my old…

A direct debit was set up using my old address (my mums address), in a different name using my bank account details. Haven’t responded to my emails.
Took £12 from my bank. Disgusting behaviour. I have complained to my bank banks fraud department.

Corporate FRAUDSTERS / ROBBERS, they stole £45.5 from me !!

I wish there was an option to give zero stars, they deserve nothing more, you wouldn't believe that an esteemed corporate entity such as this can actually stoop to such low levels and commit such crimes.

My grandpa is a huge TIME magazine fan, so I thought maybe he might like "The Week" magazine from Dennis Publishing as well.

Therefore without any delay, I subscribed to the free magazine pack of 6 magazines for a 6 months time frame( so he could try it out before committing to the full yearly package )

Before confirming the subscription I have been notified the bill would be £0, hence I gave all my card details. Right after confirming my details, they have sent me a £45.5 invoice.

After contacting them, they have notified me that payments are taken early to ensure that they clear in time for the label run dates so that we do not miss any issues. Keep in mind this was not stated anywhere before entering my card details, in fact, what was stated was the billable amount would be £0.

First, they stated they have received my payment and will issue a refund in no time, a few days later they sent another mail stating that renewal payment for the subscription was unsuccessful therefore no refund will be generated by the system. However, in my statement, I had a deduction of £46.5 from Dennis Publishing.

Its been almost about a year if not more I have been chasing my payment for, unfortunately, no luck. I feel like I should report this as a fraud case, they seem to be getting away even after committing crimes like this to God knows how many people. Its sad a company of such potential is actually a CORPORATE ROBBER.

Also note, never received any of the 6 free magazines either.

Hi Chaudhury,

I am really sorry to hear of your trouble.

I have spoken to our custom service team and I can confirm that 6 free issues of the Week were sent- those dated 8th September 2018 to 13th October 2018 to your address.

However, as the payment bounced it was unsuccessful- we did not receive any payment, there would therefore be a reverse entry on the your bank account to show this. In this case we would usually advise you to check directly with their Credit Card company just in case the credit is being held by them.

I hope this information has been helpful? Please don't hesitate to contact me at joe_spain@dennis.co.uk if you have any further questions.

Kind regards,
Joe

Fraudsters!!!

I am loathed to give 1 star. I have not set up a direct debit with this company. Goodness knows how they have my bank details. The details that they have for me are totally incorrect. I am female and they have me as a male. The address is incorrect. I have contacted my bank and I have received the money back. I have emailed this 'company' and advised them that they remove ALL of my details and confirm that they have removed all of my details or I am informing the police. From the comments below this is not an isolated incident and con artists like this should be stopped.

Hi Jo,

Thank you for contacting us immediately. Firstly, we are very sorry to hear that you may have been a victim of fraud, and may we apologise for the inconvenience this has caused you.

Recently our publishing company has been targeted by fraudsters, who attempt to set up payments to test stolen bank details. Unfortunately, it looks like someone has attempted to use your details to take out a Dennis Magazine subscription as a test to see if your details are active. Your details have not been acquired from Dennis Publishing or the subscription company. I am extremely glad you contacted your bank and have received the money back, as your bank will take the necessary steps to insure your bank account is protected. Rest assured, I can confirm that the direct debit issued with your bank details will now be immediately suspended, and we have also removed your details from our system.

We are continually assessing how we can help prevent fraud and are putting a process in place to try and detect and block fraudulent activity. We are also unable to record the location of where the order was submitted.

As well as contacting your bank, we also strongly advise you contact Action Fraud to register the activity and they will log the issue and provide you with a crime number.
