Descript is an AI-powered video and audio editing platform that combines transcription, screen recording, and publishing into a single tool. Instead of using multiple apps for editing, captioning, and sharing, users can manage the entire workflow in one place. At its foundation, Descript allows text-based editing. Media files are automatically transcribed, and changes to the text directly edit the video or audio timeline. This makes editing more accessible for beginners while still providing advanced capabilities for professionals. Core Features Text-based editing: Edit media by editing words on a transcript instead of navigating timelines. Screen and webcam recording: Capture product demos, tutorials, and presentations in one place. AI enhancements: Tools like Eye Contact, Studio Sound, filler word removal, and automatic captions. Avatars & voice tools: Create lifelike avatars, translate content, or generate synthetic voices. Collaboration tools: Multi-track editing and real-time team collaboration for distributed teams.

I'm frustrated in not being able to…
I'm frustrated in not being able to give Descript less than 1 star.
I see glitches everywhere. Unresponsive times. 429 (rate limits) and 500 (server) errors all the time.
In theory it's a good tool. But my mistake was putting all my time and effort in theories. It took me too long to convince myself all these problems didn't come from my computer, internet connection, lack of knowledge or anything else.
It's just a problematic tool that can't handle anything minimally decently.
It doesn't transcript well: I thought it was my bad English. Until I see the same word being misspelled in over 40 different ways.
It doesn't do simple things like select multiple layers, adjust alignments and etc. I thought it was my lack of knowledge, but I've been a die-hard user for the last 8 months, so now I'm convinced who's more limited.
It freezes and fails to load media when reproducing and exporting. I thought it was my computer, my Internet, or even a bad alignments from Jupiter and Pluto. But guess what? It was Descript again.
Save your brains and stay away from this bomb. Your future self will thank you heaps.
Descript drives me batsh!t crazy, but…
Descript drives me batsh!t crazy with their constant updates and major modifications to the platform without any notice.
I have more than once cursed the gods for making me aware of it, even though I have no idea how I became aware of it in the first place.
However, they have enough going for it that I can’t justify ending my subscription. The studio sound feature is unbelievably good, the transcription is very accurate, I’ve got a nice little flow for creating
Social media clips; and the AI show notes are…adequate for my purposes.
If the people running the show would show a little more consideration toward their customers when making massive changes to the basic functionality of the platform, I have no doubt most of these 1-star reviews would be 4-5 stars.
Descript.com steals your money - do not trust them.
After you cancel your subscription, they continue charging you, stealing your money. Descript is stealing money from their customers.
They put several levels of obscurity in place to make it harder to get a refund, as they continue to steal your money. If you contact support, they ask your unnecessary information and details, making it harder for you to get a refund and making it harder for them to stop stealing your money every month as they continue to charge you for a service you cancelled.
When we login to our account it says "you have a free account" - and they are still charging us.
We contacted support and they have continued to waste our time instead of refunding the money.
Descript.com is the shadiest, most fraudulent company you should NEVER do business with.
If you want to be robbed by a company that hates you, then you should do business with Descript.com
I've been using Descript for going on 3…
I've been using Descript for going on 3 years and absolutely love it. I'm shocked by the negative reviews considering how incredible the platform is and how quick it makes our workflows. I understand that constant updates can be frustrating as it means learning the tools again, but isn't that all software? What it can do is incredible and it's constantly improving. I love it for that, and think that they should be commended for creating a truly amazing platform.
It was ok a few months ago but the many updates are making the product unstable.
I've been using Descript for around 3 months now and I was on the Creator's plan. I've edited over 20 videos to be uploaded onto my YouTube channel.
I'm also in their Facebook group and monitor what's being talked about there. It's not very positive.
They keep making changes and updating the software, rolling it out as and when. This is highly disruptive and confuses the users.
I've found recently that after making the changes, updating and exporting, my videos aren't always updating and I'm then finding out there's issues once I've put them live. Really time consuming and annoying. On that basis, I've downgraded to the free plan and I'm now trying Riverside.
They don't stop changing things, even when it's already good! It's getting worse!
I thought Descript was a great platform to use and was working great until the new changes they made in June 2025. With the new changes they made, it caused the glitches and problems to jump 200%!! It's making me upset and feel like pulling my hair out.
I am now scrambling to find a new video editing platform. So far I've Found Adobe Premiere Pro that I will try.
Charging for nothing
This is one of those sites that makes it easy for you to subscribe when in fact you only want to try out. I paid their subscription for a year without being aware. They are of course covered legally and they reject any refund request. I think this is appalling business practice. Charging money for nothing.
I really want to like this product
I really want to like this product. So badly. But it has been causing more harm than good. I'd like to talk about my workflow, but it barely exists because every project I am working on is having issues. Files randomly losing audio. Projects not loading or freezing every other second while i'm trying to work. The app crashing in the middle of a recording session. Descript's performance has gone downhill over the last year.
Platform is deteriorating.
I have been a subscriber for about 2 years - used to be great but now it's very disappointing - too many bugs to list. They seem to be focused on growing AI tools while the existing (simple) tools fall apart. It's getting too frustrating (& confusing) to use. I don't know why but downloads can take hours now. Customer support is not good enough. I guess they are inundated with complaints.
You can't edit translations unless you pay £600!!!
OMG - I should have come here before paying for a subscription! You can't edit the translations YOURSELF unless you pay £600!!!
Beware, refund policy sucks.
If I was writing this 5 months ago this would be 5 stars. However, there refund policy has ruined there reputation for me.
I stopped using descript a few months ago. I no long was making youtube shorts and no longer needed it.
I forgot to unsubscribe to there service. A few days ago I noticed a charge on my credit card statement from them. I immediately requested a refund. According to them you can only get one 48 hours after it renews. Complete bs, not sure who is watching there billing statements that much but it sure as heck isn't me.
If you are going to offer a subscription service then you better be prepared to refund when people forget about it.
No wonder you have terrible views on here if this is how you treat your customers.
they kept charging me without me knowing
I used the software 1 months ago
I used the software 6 months ago, and all was ok. Still learning. It was clunky but some things outweigh others.
HOWEVER, SUPPORT IS BAD.I"m back on trying to send an invite to guest. Not working. I REACH OUT TO DESCRIPT. THEY SEND LINKS AND SAY THEY DO NOT SUPPORT ON THE PHONE. WHAT!!?? THEIR Q&A LINKS AREN'T HELPING. NO FOLLOW UP. THE REP WENT DARK. That's a dealbreaker for me!!! A company that doesn't provide good support will not support in other ways as well. It speaks volumes about the leadership and the type of culture. No support for a SOFTWARE COMP. NO BUSINESS FROM ME. I GUESS I HAVE TO CANCEL AND SPREAD THE WORD.
This will ruin your videos. Don't use it.
Worst video editing software. Descript has ruined a number of video projects for me and lost me money - lagging audio, glitchy play back and poor customer service. All the support team do is fob you off by trying to get you to 'fix it' yourself while creating tonnes of extra working the process.
I have never been so annoyed as using…
I have never been so annoyed as using Descript. It started promising, nicely transcribed my video.. then when i did the second one, it failed to transcribe and the assistant didn't help. So I downloaded my video and reuploaded it and then it transcribed. Mind you that in the meantime I spent HOURS trying to edit manually (on the timeline) and it was even worse because it randomly duplicated the parts that I removed!?
Then when I finally managed to get my transcript, and I edited everything, only to come to the end...and realise THE END IS MISSING! Descript just randomly decided to cut a part of my video when I downloaded it!
I have never been so mad, this is absolutely horrible, I am putting in DAYS of work and need to start over!
Sad that you have to keep upgrading to…
Sad that you have to keep upgrading to remove watermaker you need bigger
Rubbish Offerings
What a poor poor company. They get you to learn their product application and promise you "livechat" to assist and its a complete waste of money. Find another application to do this for you
Disappointing AI Voice Generation and…
Disappointing AI Voice Generation and Poor Value for Money!
I must express my disappointment with Descript's AI voice generation, particularly in the way it charges users for all generated content, regardless of whether it is actually exported or even of usable quality. The AI voices are often not production ready, requiring extensive tweaking to remove unnatural tones or strong accents. However, frustratingly, even minor adjustments to refine pronunciation or clarity still count towards the usage limit, which feels incredibly restrictive and unfair.
Had I known this from the outset, I would never have opted for an annual subscription. Instead, I would have gone for a pay as you go model, as the annual plan provides very poor value for money, especially considering the rigid allocation of AI voice generation minutes. Some months you may need more minutes, while others you barely use any, yet Descript offers no rollover or flexibility, meaning you are effectively paying for unused resources.
For anyone considering Descript, be cautious if you plan to use AI voice generation extensively. The pricing structure is not consumer friendly, and the quality of AI voices does not justify the rigid and costly limitations. Unless Descript changes its policies, I cannot recommend the annual subscription, as it simply lacks the flexibility needed for real world use.
This software is so bad
This software is so bad, I have fully loaded PC i9 -64 RAM I had to wait 2 hours for this software to export a 4k video 1:11 minute long video this beyond slow. Take your money somewhere else because this software will just create more problems than solutions.
Also, to mention they have an update every day for what? WHO Knows
I was an early adopter but that didn’t…
I was an early adopter but that didn’t matter when I found out I had been charged for the last 6 months because there was a plan hidden in a drive that I don’t use. The other drive said I was on the free plan. I didn’t know you could have plans hidden within drives.
So they don’t give a crap about having you back in the future. Given this stay well clear.
