  2. Video Editing Service

Written by the company

Descript is an AI-powered video and audio editing platform that combines transcription, screen recording, and publishing into a single tool. Instead of using multiple apps for editing, captioning, and sharing, users can manage the entire workflow in one place. At its foundation, Descript allows text-based editing. Media files are automatically transcribed, and changes to the text directly edit the video or audio timeline. This makes editing more accessible for beginners while still providing advanced capabilities for professionals. Core Features Text-based editing: Edit media by editing words on a transcript instead of navigating timelines. Screen and webcam recording: Capture product demos, tutorials, and presentations in one place. AI enhancements: Tools like Eye Contact, Studio Sound, filler word removal, and automatic captions. Avatars & voice tools: Create lifelike avatars, translate content, or generate synthetic voices. Collaboration tools: Multi-track editing and real-time team collaboration for distributed teams.

Descript is very intuitive

Descript was intuitive and helped me with my first podcast. It saved me a lot of time and headache with the editing process. I will continue to use it as I begin this podcast journey.

Descript makes editing way faster for me

I'm a big fan of Descript. Editing videos by rearranging text makes it way quicker, and I love the concept of 'scenes' to help speed up editing by auto animating elements in and out.

The stability of the product has noticeably improved in the 2+ years I've been using it. I don't use a lot of the AI features like overdub and AI avatars, but just the core editing flow for me is great - I find it faster than using Premiere or Da Vinci, even with keyboard editing hotkeys.

I'd be very sad if I could no longer use Descript

Great product

Great! Everything just works... like it should, but sometimes you just get surprised by the quality of for example the YouTube transcriptions. Good stuff!

Game Changer!

As far as video editing software goes, Descript is a game changer! I love being able to edit my videos from the transcript and fix glitches like correcting speech when the internet has dropped out.

Catfishing, misleading & infuriating experience

Worst experience ever — complete waste of money.
I purchased a one-month subscription to test this product and within a single short session, all of my AI credits were gone. Nowhere on the pricing page or inside the product did it explain that “one use” means one file in a project. To make things worse, Studio Sound (which consumes credits) is enabled by default on every file import — a deliberately sneaky tactic that drains new users’ credits without their knowledge.

I had to restart my project multiple times due to the system’s poor usability, and with just 16 files I unknowingly burned through nearly all 20 credits in less than half an hour — with nothing usable to show for it. When I contacted support, they were dismissive and offered no help beyond essentially saying “tough luck.”

This was a catfishing, misleading, and infuriating experience. The product is not user-friendly, the pricing is deceptive, and the support is useless. I would never recommend this to anyone. Thankfully I only wasted $16 instead of a full year’s subscription. I’ve since switched to Canva — infinitely better in every way.

Sorry to hear about your experience here!

The intention is definitely not to make AI Actions confusing, or make you use them up without getting what you need.

If you follow back up with support, we can try to locate the ticket and follow up on that request - that doesn't sound like what we should have responded with here!

I really like Descript! Needs 3 QOL improvements...

First off: I really love Descript for editing videos.

However, there are some quality of life (QOL) issues:

1. Can't easily do voiceover. It takes some backflips, and I can't watch the video while I'm doing the voiceover.
2. When I export to YouTube, if I type in a description, often there's a workflow where I end up having to add it 2-3 times as I log into YouTube (clears the custom description), switch export tabs (clears the custom description), etc. Please, please auto-save the custom description as I write it!
3. I'd like a quicker way to cut in the timeline. I can click on an area, hit S, then click on another spot, hit S, then click on the segment I want to delete, and hit backspace. I'd like to click, then maybe like command+click or something, and it auto-deletes between those points. Of course I can do that in the script and I do as often as I can, but still...
