Underwhelming! Not sure what the fuss is about. I can name 3 local curry houses who do better dishes. The only saving grace was our lovely server, Adam

Average food at extraordinary prices
The food is not as good as it is claimed, but the prices are set at a level which don't live up to the expectations. For example, a flat bread is costing whopping £5, but we couldn't taste anything special granting the privalge to charge this exuberant amount. The portions were also very small. The Chef special that is advertised can be shared with two isn't big enough to do so. The murgh Mali served was a bit sweet.
However the customer service was excellent. And a large army of workers at the restaurant may be the justification for these costs.
12.5% “optional” service charge that…
12.5% “optional” service charge that they added onto the bill without asking us anyway, which meant £12.50 (plus vat?) on a £100 meal for 2 was added. Food was ok but we were put on a table for 2, which was literally 30cm away from the next “table for 2” couple, about as private as sitting at a macdonalds restaurant but in a darker room. Food served extremely fast, way faster than one would imagine it would take to cook stuff from fresh, but we could be wrong on that point. Wine glasses were the cheap, almost stemless ones that you get in all you can eat buffets in certain hotels abroad. No matter how you dress it up, all of these things did contribute to a bit of a “fast food” or “chain” type vibe about the place, with prices bumped due to the fact its in the city centre, in a fairly attractive building.
At least other rival places give you a more honest “option” of paying a service charge imho, that you can set to how much you think is deserved.
We initially booked at the dishoom to “give it a try” after a day out at the royal exchange theatre, as we are always open to trying new places to eat at, but for the reasons above, I think we will be trying a different eating establishment the next time we are out in town. Its sad to see reviews of people actually queuing to go there, as its not really somewhere we would imagine going out of our way and queuing up for.
Never again
This is a shame I used to love this restaurant chain and I've visited every London branch.
Rude. The server spilled the contents of my bacon naan onto the table and walked away laughing. There is no wifi. They tell you it's unavailable after capturing all your details to spam you with endless offers.
So, three slices of bacon in a small naan bread and a single small cup of oat milk chai cost me £17.10. The waiting staff were tetchy and unhelpful. Avoid this place.
Previously I've enjoyed eating here but I'll never revisit any of the branches after today. Overpriced fare with rude and uninterested staff.
Dishoom Battersea -- exceptional food and service
I want to thank the excellent French Manager and her hard working, enthusiastic team at Dishoom Battersea for breaking all the rules to organise an exceptional take away birthday meal. She went out of her way to be helpful and accommodating on a very busy Saturday afternoon and I thank her. The food was simply superb, so tasty, all at a very reasonable price. 5+ Stars!
outstanding
outstanding. Ordered a wide range of both meat and vegetarian dishes and all brilliant, The black lentil dhal is especially good.
Lunch or crunch at Dishoom carnaby !!We have been regular visitors of…
We have been regular visitors of dishoom ever since it opened. But today's experience was the worst ever. Me and my husband went to carnaby St branch for lunch and ordered our regular house daal and chana bhatura , Roomali roti along with some other items. I have to say , my daal came in a smaller than usual bowl , there was only 1 bhatura on the plate as compared to the usual 2 bhaturas and roomali roti was half the size than normal . After paying the bill I asked to speak with the manager to share my experience and he said "oh due to wastage we have cut the portion size. " When people take leftover as takeaway after paying a substantial amount for their food? Then he said" you should have mentioned the portion size to your server"!!! And the server would have increased the portion at extra cost or would have added couple of spoons of daal in my bowl and given us an extra bhatura ???? Amazed at the reply. Don't think we'll be going there any sooner.

Great food and service as others have mentioned, so so busy, and quite loud, my V Biriani was a bit too to spicy (hot) for me but hey ho l managed most of it.
Excellent food poor wine
Four of us visited Dishoom Birmingham yesterday. We had 2 chota papad snacks, 2 small dishes (chilli chicken & fish amritsari) and 3 large dishes (chicken ruby, mutton pepper fry & Goan monkfish curry) with a couple of rotis. The food was stunning. It really is fine dining and we weren't rushed at all. The only downside was the red wine. We had a couple of bottles of the cheapest at about £29 a bottle and it was awful, like vinegar. Such a shame that they can't provide a decent wine at a reasonable price to go with the excellent food. Not sure but think the next cheapest was about £45.
Good food
Good food, lovely chai, service was great - Anagha was very nice!

Karina looked after our group so well considering my dietary requirements of free from everything. The cardamon and rose oat drink was delicious and my breakfast choices.
I wish they had more choice for gf and df but portions are big.
Thanks to Karina for her patience and taking so much time to spend with me, she is lovely.

Edinburgh
Edinburgh: Consistently disappointing. Need to sort out a booking system for parties less than 6. Waiting outside for an hour isn't a thing I'm into. Loud music. Dark downstairs. Difficult to have a conversation due to the large number of people raising their voices over the loud music. Poppadoms poor and had the texture of quavers. Ruby Chicken disappointing and was a mixture of different types of chicken meat. Portion sizes small but prices high, and they also practice "tip by default," as the pay by QR code has no option to remove or reduce the tip. I won't be back in a hurry. £84 for a small meal for two with no alcohol and I still didn't feel full.
Toilets smells bad
Staff were lovely.. they offered free chai and a free rice pudding with a candle on it when they knew it was my husband’s birthday
Quite pricey for the portions given
But that’s not the reason for the 3 stars
The reason i gave it 3 stars was the toilets
Smells awful.. this is the branch in Birmingham.. they need to do something about it .. it’s a nice restaurant.. it’s very sad to have the toilets ruining our experience
Pretentious
Pretentious!
Silly little crackers you could buy from Aldi in place of popaddums, salty basic Monkfish curry , no change of plate after starters. Dark atmosphere, very expensive for what you get plus a 12.5% service charge for canteen style service. NEVER AGAIN!!!!!!°
Excellent service
This is our favourite place to eat. We have always had excellent service and the most amazing food thank you Massimo for the service and looking after us so well.
I would give more stars if I could extra star for the rice pudding and chai tea
Brilliant for brunch..,
Had brunch at the Oxford restaurant. (Bacon and Egg in naan bread. Exquisite!) Absolutely fantastic food and service from
quick and responsive staff. Great location too.
As a side issue I left my rather posh leather gloves behind and the staff couldn’t have been nicer in tracking them down and posting them back to me. Recommended.

Great service with a smile
The staff at Dishoom Battersea were amazing. It was really busy, but we were served with a smile and very quickly too. We went just before Christmas and It was our first time there.
The food was toooo good. We were given £30 vouchers to use next time too.
Manchester Dishoom
Went to the Manchester restaurant and served by Akos. He was brilliant. He was so friendly and gave such good recommendations and explanations of the dishes. He truly made the experience well worth it. Will definitely be recommending and going again.
Overpriced unauthentic Indian food
Overpriced unauthentic Indian food. The butterfly prawns for the price (approx £19) you get exactly 4 prawns and nothing special about the mutton pepper fry. The naan was served cold.
Save yourself the trouble of queuing up at Dishoom and spend your money eating at a local Indian restaurant.
