Winter Icefjord Trip with Diskline Explorer
We are winter travelers to Greenland and just finished an incredible Icefjord Sailing trip out into the bay around the glacier fjord. The boat was solid, large enough to feel safe, and was clean and well run. It very comfortably warm, despite the December temperatures outside. Our guide Magnus gave an excellent short lecture on the area and had answers to our many questions, from both young children to adults. He was incredibly knowledgeable, spoke excellent English, was enthusiastic and obviously loved his job and this environment. He was a pleasure to have as a guide.
We had some offers for open boat trips with cold weather gear, which would probably be fine in the summer, but it is really incredibly cold here right now, and having the option to warm up inside with a cup of hot coffee between photo sessions on deck really made the trip.
The view was fantastic. We've traveled in northern Alaska, Norway all the way to Svalbard, and northern Canada and have never been so close to so many icebergs, we took over 1000 photos in two hours ... Absolutely stunning.
We are most grateful to Disko Explorer for running this trip with such a small group of winter travelers (five total) in a boat that holds 12. They have given us the highlight of our trip.
