Locksmith Scammers
Don’t bother. These are Romanian scammers pretending to be locksmiths.
It starts with a Google search since you are locked out. You contact the first result you see on Google which happens to be the paid for results. You are desperate as you are locked out.
You see that they change locks replaced from £49.00, with no mention of a callout fee.
A few minutes later, the so called “locksmith” arrives. He carries no name badge, does not give you his name, and has no form of I.D. He brings out a calculator and adds a bunch of numbers consisting of his call out fee (which is never mentioned on the website), labour, tax, and whatsoever gibberish he can claim; to show you a figure that can exceed £1,000.00 (just to open a lock????!!).
To confront him over this excessive charge is where things can get dangerous. He has been known to intimidate, separate vulnerable young women from their group to extort vast amounts of money, as he usually says “How much are you willing to pay to get in your house”.
If you have ever been a victim of this individual or his compadres, be sure to file a chargeback with your bank, contact the police via Action Fraud, and Trading Standards.
You are under no obligation to pay him a penny, not even the call out fee. Be ready to call the police if he does not leave your premises (the fear of the police usually has him scramming).
If you have had “work” done by him, be sure to contact a real locksmith as his locks usually breaks down within a week.
You have been warned.
