Stayed at Seascape in West Lulworth

Stayed at Seascape in West Lulworth. Excellent location and very nice cut-de-sac of properties. The property overall was a spacious and reasonably well decorated etc. The utility room stunk of some kind of fuel and given this is where we wanted to store some food, coats etc - not great.
Strange set up with three double bedrooms and a family bathroom but the only shower in one of the bedrooms en-suites! This property could accommodate six adults so the lack of a shower in the main bathroom is a big oversight.
Enjoyed our stay but I was contacted a little while after - not in person but just a payment request - requesting £115 to replace the broken blind in the kitchen. After lowering the blind on the first night it wouldn't retract the next morning. The mechanism had clearly failed but they accused me of damage!! I simply used the cord to try to retract the blind with no force. I informed them straight away but no response.
This was booked via Airbnb who have been great in helping to resolve. I would never use company managed property again. Communication is awful. Direct host only for us in future.

Have just returned from a wyke property…

Have just returned from a wyke property cottage in Swanage.
Will never use them again.
Filthy kitchen utensils, crockery, cooking pots. I found a dish in the kitchen drawer which still had food in it and the whole place stunk. Everything i used had to be washed .
The bedroom window was rotten with mould spores all around and the bath was rusty. Disgraceful.

Recently stayed at a Dorset property

Recently stayed at a Dorset property, which wasn't clean, and had several issues. Trying to make a complaint with photographic proof is not working. So would never use them again.

Good management of an attractive holiday cottage

We enjoyed a week's holiday in Swanage in a cottage managed by Wyke Dorset cottages. The management of the property was good: owing to Covid our booking had to be transferred from Easter 2020 and that was handled well by the company. Updates and reminders by email and SMS were helpful and timely. Cleanliness was very good. With this property having a lot of mod-cons it was likely that there would be some minor defects requiring maintenance that don't get picked up in the weekly change-over or reported by previous guests. When I phoned these through, the lady in the office made careful notes, read the list back to me and arranged for repairs.

Issue resolved!

I made a booking for 3 nights for an apartment in Bournemouth from 12 April when we can go on staycations as l deserve this as a health worker! After accepting my payment of £500, l got an email within 24 hours to say that the accommodation is not available due to government covid restrictions from 12 April you cannot book apartments with communal shared entrance. I completely understand this but this should have been made clear to me before taking my payment.

I cancelled for a refund and was informed that this could take up to 30 days from the date of travel. I finally spoke to someone today about getting my refund as soon as possible so l can make another booking and this was processed immediately for me on the phone so l should get a refund in the next 3 - 4 days. 😁

We send out communications to our guests as soon as any government legislation is published that may impact their booking, offering them the options on how to proceed. We hired one of their flats in Swanage…

We hired one of their flats in Swanage for three days. Not really impressed, to begin with on trying to gain access using the Yale key it took some force to even get the key into the slot. Once inside the place was ok but nothing to write home about. And then there was the parking, well they describe the property as having a parking space for a small car but frankly they should have said don’t come anywhere near here with anything larger than a Smart Car. Then there was the obnoxious old gentleman who obviously lives in flat 1 who was quite rude when I parked in ‘His Parking Space’ although there was nothing to say that ‘His Parking Space’ was Private!!
Would I used this company again? NO

Court Farmhouse, Swanage - disappointing

We stayed at Court Farmhouse in Swanage and were extremely unimpressed with our stay.
We were unable to check in to the property until 7pm to allow for ‘safe preparation’. This meant that we lost a full day of our holiday. On entry, the house was not clean and it created a really bad first impression. It’s very difficult to see how this was clean and safe.
The two lounge areas were unclean: one sofa was covered in pet hair and sand and had not seen a hoover for some time. The other was marginally better.
The cupboards contained a half eaten bag of popcorn and had clearly not been cleaned / checked properly and there had been a large leak in the wall/roof of the main bedroom, so leaving a large stain.
The welcome pack contained 6 teabags, some instant coffee capsules, a packet of biscuits and a pint of milk. For the money, a load of bread and a jar of jam would not have been unreasonable.
The interiors were dated with mould in the main bathroom around the windows,
Overall, it was a dated place to stay with very steep steps which are unsuitable for anyone elderly.
The cleaning issues were rectified the next day by the cleaner who lives 1 hour away - not ideal when you check in to a dirty house.

The cottage is an old period cottage which often have steep stairs we do mention this on the website as we understand this is not always suitable for everyone. Bad customer servicePlease read my bad experience with this…

Please read my bad experience with this company. I have communicated back and forth with them about my booking the little steppes cottage swanage and they wont compromise at all and give us our money back we didnt even stay their. So please dont bother using them.

Youre reply to the above bad review is disgusting. No you havent even come close to addressing the issues. I paid over £500 walked out didnt even stay there. Drove round 1hr no parking advert doesnt mention yellow line down one side of road and hubby drove round other streets so there is no parking and faeces down the toilet.
I will keep writing this to you agree to give me a refund.

Avoid Wyke Cottages and Original Cottages!!

Avoid! Shockingly bad customer service. Our holiday (booked 11 months previously) was cancelled without warning or explanation 2 weeks before we were due to depart. Multiple telephone calls and emails sent with no response. Took legal advice & finally got a refund. Part of Original Cottages: check them out thoroughly & book at your peril!

A highly dissatisfied customer.

I would, based on my experience of this company, suggest avoiding them at all costs.
My original booking was cancelled due to Covid which of course was no-ones fault. However, the company was dismissive of my concerns, refused a refund, were unhelpful and slow to respond to my concerns and refused to consider compromise.
They changed our book-in time to 7pm to supposedly allow for "deep cleaning" and a book out time of 9am, effectively costing us a day of our holidays. I only received standard replies to my complaints about this. They appeared to have little regard for the impact this had.
It would have been slightly acceptable had we arrived to a pristine, Covid safe and clean house. We did not. The cottage looked tired and in need of upkeep. Sticky kitchen work tops, old and worn kitchen utensils, dusty corners and areas. Worst of all, after removing sofa cushions to retrieve a drop remote control, we found lost property from previous guests, masses of dog hair and general filth. It looked like it wasn't cleaned in Months. I sent pictures of the sofa to the company but received no reply. The general standard of cleaning was not high.
I sent many communications to the company, never receiving anything like a understanding reply or offer of compromise and had a wait a very long time for these standard responses.

Definitely a company to avoid

Definitely a company to avoid, paid £166 for a cottage in August before COVID, both vulnerable adults and advised by Health professionals not to travel, offered a refund of £36, that is £130 in administration costs. The email they sent said they could resell the dates as we had notified them early, so they have re sold the cottage and kept £130 of our money, I will not be booking or recommending this company.

Do not use Wykes Dorset Cotteges

We booked a house for 6 days in August in Swanage and was unable to gain access till 7 pm due to "thorough cleaning". We assumed that the house would be in pristine condition and that the cleaners must have been there the bulk of the day to cleanse, sanitise and generally prepare the property to ensure a Covid free environment. On our arrival however, we were horrified to find that the place was in a disgusting state and we doubt that the cleaners had spent more than half an hour in the place! The windows leading to the conservatory were filthy as were the side windows within! There were cobwebs on the floor in the dining area between chair and the wall.It obviously hadn't been touched in ages! The front door entrance roof was flaking badly and it is clear that it hadn't seen a duster in ages! The garden was in a dirty state and the patio was completely full of rubbish and leaves and had not been swept! There were also cobwebs on the garden furniture! We tried to call Wykes but was unable to get through! We sent an email but only received a standard reply stating we would be contacted within three days! Heard nothing by the time we returned home so emailed again and still no reply. Tried to contact the owner but again without success! We finally managed to get in touch with the agency after several attempts and they just made excuses because of Covid, working from home etc!
The informed us they would investigate and get back to us!!! We still have heard nothing from them to this day!!
Their service is disgraceful and unacceptable I would not use them ever again!!

Very nice holiday

I am writing this feedback on behalf of cousin. She recently stay in a wyke Cottages at Dorset and say one of the best places she is ever gone to. She like say thank you for making her feel so welcome after very stressful time as worker in NHS and break much needed for relaxation. Cottage very clean - only take off one star as difficult to find but when got there she very much enjoyed staying

One to avoid

Not only would this company not offer a refund on the 33% deposit paid for a holiday cottage but they tried to claim the outstanding balance for a booking that couldn't take place due to Covid-19. One to avoid.
