Dragon performance car snobbery

I took my basic 1.6jtdm alfa romeo giulietta in for a stage 1 remap. I was a courier during lockdown driving all over Scotland daily picking up covid tests from nursing and children's homes, doing approx 200 to 300 miles a day. I bought the desiel giulietta for the sole purpose of good MPG'S on long motorway lockdown journies. Now. I've owned fast cars in the past like jdm impreza sti, mark 2 600 bhp tuned supra and I am well aware my little alfa was no hot hatch but just thought a little extra horses would be helpful. I felt from start to finish at dragon performance paul is a car snob. He plugged the car up and from a desk 10 metres away shouted what kind of car is that and was is it a stage 1 you want or economy? I Sat on a couch in the garage for around 2 hours and no one tried to speak or even let me know how long the remap would take. When remap was finished paul said any problems in the next 2 weeks give me a shout. I started my car and warning lights were everywhere I asked paul what's that he said 'I donno' turns out I later found out it is normal for my car to do that after the battery has been disconnected. I left dragon performance garage happy and I could feel a difference with the remap so all was good until.... a few months later I receive a normal marketing email from dragon which had a photo of my car in their garage saying 3 well known top gear hosts think 'ALPHAS' are great and that he personally doesn't see it and invited comments on my car. He couldn't even be bothered spelling Alfa properly. My car was in on October 2021 I have screenshots, receipts and all the proof that this is a real honest review.

EGR issue resolved

Took my car there to have an EGR issue resolved. Great communication from Jon throughout the whole process and loving how the car now drives. I would definitely recommend Dragon Tuning.

Excellent Work 👌🏻

Dropped the car off to Paul and picked it up 3 hours later and it was running fire 🔥 Impressive gains for a stage 1 map and definitely notice the increased engine torque! Cheers mate.

Had our Skoda Scout 2.0 tdi remapped last week. Paul clearly knew what he was doing and did an excellent job.
Gave us exactly what I'd asked for and the improvement in performance was superb, without affecting the economy. And did it for a very reasonable price - much better than many others.

Would happily recommend Dragon to anyone.

Over the moon

Had my Range rover sport remapped last week, was avaraging 24mpg before, but since remapping it is now at 30mpg (not bad at all for a 3.6 Tdv8!

It also now has a shed load of power and torque!

Very happy!

Also, good thing about these guys, there have a perminent base! they arent mobile!

a well esablished business with a very good reputation, and honestly, i can see why!

i had 2 wait 2 weeks for an appointment due to them being so busy and when i brought my car in to them there was a 2019 mini cooper S, a 2019 BMW 330i and a 2021 golf R in for mapping work also.

I dropped my car off and returned 2 hours later after taking a walk into perth to grab some lunch.

I have used other mapping companies previously for other range rover sports i have owned and dragon, by far have produced the best results! (i have owned 6 now)

Disappointed

Got a car back from other garage yesterday, finally decided to leave a review. We booked the car for a remap, gear box remap, downpipe fitting and for a new hybrid turbo to be installed.
So:The first time when took back the car, there was no boost till 2,7k rpm and Paul said that turbos are too big. He mentioned that the only solution would be to buy different turbos.
Done some research again, contacted turbo supplier, and also other garages- and all of them mentioned that the turbos I bought in a first time, are absolutely fine, and its impossible that they are too big.Got back to Paul- he said that he will fix it, and also will check all the vacuum lines. He sent me a message that he fixed a problem with the turbos- he didnt adjusted changeover actuator properly.
So picked up the car again, felt that now theres less power than it was, booked in Dyno run the week after, and guys in the dyno said that there is a boost leak and exhaust leak and this car BMW e91 335d with stock turbos etc should have around 360hp after stage 1.
However, my car showed on a print out 315 hp!I bought expensive hybrid turbos, and bigger intercooler, guys were shocked that they didnt see around 400hp or more with that set up.Got back to Paul again, and he said that I need to take the car back to him again.
He mentioned that he needed to cut off the power because of vibration ( no one knows whats vibrating).
I refused to drive all that way again to him and he came to pick up the car himself ( which was nice)
Mentioned in the messages about the car sometimes cutting of the power, and he said he will check it.Then received message of him saying that - one of the boost pipes not seated properly and there is 2 broken vacuum hoses ( which he said week ago that he will check them, but apparently a week after they are old and broken) and theres problem with turbo to downpipe gasket.
( I provided a new downpipe with all the fittings, brand new turbo with all fittings, and he said that hes got a one gasket at the garage and quoted me £65 for hoses. He mentioned that he fixed all the problems with the car, so late Saturday night around 11pm I went to pick up the car and hoped it will be the end of the drama
Woke up, wanted to have a look at the engine bay and realised that theres missing almost all screws and bolts
Imagine how I felt.Air intake was not connected and was wobbly.
I messaged Paul, and he said- that there was no screws in engine bay.
Thank god I did a video before, and took a screenshot where you can see that there def screws there.
He said that he will refund me WHEN I WILL BUY THEM (all of them are different).More surprised I was when I realised that theres an oil leak on undertray.I thought that it might be because of the work which been done, so gave it a few days to dry up.After a week, I understand that car is loosing the power, checked the leak again- there was a lot more oil, so realised that the problem is more serious than I thought. So booked another garage again, to check whats happening, and messaged Paul about all the problems and that theres no chance I will take my car back to him.I was surprised about the reply- why are you messaging me just now? So apparently for him, its ok, too lose so much oil, after 2-3 weeks. ( there was no oil leak before)
Took my car to the other garage as mentioned before and what they found:
Bolts slack
Bolts missing ( what a surprise)
Gasket not fitted correctly
Pipe slack
Bolt and clip missing from turbo
Oil feed pipe on bottom turbo not tight enough
Charge pipe not sitting correctly again
So now I am left with:
No money
No power
Oil leaking car and unsafe car due to missing bolts.I paid £150 to the garage, now need to pay £60 for the parts from BMW, and then need to book a garage again to fit these parts which will be another £150-£200
Then need to take the car to the dyno £70, and then pay again for a remap without overboost.
I live 1h 40min from Pauls garage, so imagine how much I spent time ( 11 hours) and money on a diesel (£100) to get a car to and from him.
Had a feeling everything was done in a rush, even the remap was done with a car showing wrong air intake temp 1050°C, which can cause power problems. It should be seen on a live data. Also, I am quite dissapointed that when he came to pick up the car, he took it to the shopping centre, where is no car related shops. If I, as an adult, would make a mistakes, and cause someone so much problems, I would do a refund, not just ignore them.
So what we got and spent to Paul:
Stock power car (286hp)- after(315hp) - now probably not even 315.Down pipe (£220)
Turbo charger ( £1600)
Intercooler (£300)
Remap and fitting ( £1200)Unexpected loses:
£100 diesel to travel to him
Dyno run 2x £70
Garage app 2x £150Parts to Paul £60
Parts from BMW for the new garage £60
New remap or fixing overboost ???
Engine bolts £20+Also I am not sure how much all of these problems damaged the engine&car. Marcis

Hi Marcis, now where to start with this reply?

You booked in with me for fitting a decat downpipe, uprated turbos, Map the engine and map the gearbox.

You fail to mention the absolute DOG of a car you provided (why did you need new turbos? - you failed to mention this)

Your car was far from being in good mechanical condition when dropped off to me.

Total you spent with me was - £1260 (£400 engnie mapping, £300 gearbox mapping, £500 for parts fitting and £60 for replacment hoses)

Your car was leaking oil when brought in to me, the undertray was falling apart and was so bad it needed replacing, (Oil leaks and wrecked undertrays are very common on these)

the car suffered serious wheel wobble when driving, steering was all over the place.. i would definately say it was unsafe.

I was limited in mapping due to engine or "torque converter" vibration. i was not prepared to spend time to look into this due to the overall condition of the car and the extra work required, so i capped the power and torque.

The missing bolts you mention were 2 bolts holding the airbox, i said to you let me know how much these are and i will pay for them.

I did not ignore any of your messages.. all i asked was "if you had all these issues, why has it taken you 3 weeks to message?"

i checked my work on the 2 occasions you brought the car back and there were absolutely NO OIL LEAKS from any of the areas i had worked.

You also blamed me for the intake air temp sensor which is also nowhere near where i worked on the car.. (i wonder... have you replaced this?)

was just reading through the million messages.. trying to find any mention of oil leaks, but interestingly i found one from you saying "Nice, Miss that sh*tbox already" - No mention of any oil leaks from you until 3 weeks after you last picked the car up.

Very bad and expensive mistake.

I took my Volvo V60 for a stage1 remap last month after being bombarded with daily emails promising great gains with their remaps. Big mistake!! The car had only 25000 miles on it and was running perfectly but I was enticed by the power gains as I tow a caravan.
Drove the 90 miles journey and wandered around Perth for a few hours while the job was taking place (ecu had to be removed on this model). Job done and running fine he said so off I go and further down the road discover it isn't.
Phoned the next morning and he said you'll need to bring it back.
Back up wanders around Perth while he tried to resolve the problem by tweaking the remap, no luck so then he decided it was a mechanical fault with my car. It's an overboost problem he said, poked about the wastegate but said it seemed ok. He then poured a couple of cans of magic mixture in my tank and said that might cure it. I left with him saying that if it doesn't work he'll return the car to standard and refund my £350 cash payment(£24 discount for cash). Down the road still not right, phoned next day to say I'm wanting it put back to standard. No point he says as it's a mechanical issue that has unfortunately just happened and he can't refund me. Took my car to a local remap expert who put it back to standard and discovered he'd damaged one of the connectors which he had to repair and could find no mechanical issues....cost £250. Running perfectly again, contacted him but he won't admit any responsibility. Total cost to be back where I started £700 including fuel costs and 2 days wasted. The biggest problem i have with him is going back on his promise to refund the money. Avoid at all costs!!

Hi Matt, thank you very much for your review.

Just a few points -

1 - it is NOT our responsibility to ensure your car is in perfect mechanical condition prior to remapping, it is your car, not ours
2 - you asked us to increase performance on your car (which involves increasing turbo boost pressure)
3 - we do not work for free, you asked for a service, we provided a service, unfortunately there is a mechanical fault with your car causing overboost (map set at 1.5bar, your car is producing 2.5 and going into limp mode)

turns out, we get a customer like yourself 1 in every 1000 cases. which isnt too bad.

You stated that our map CAUSED your issue, then you took it to the garage who looks after your car which you said "used to do remapping"

You said "as i suspected, your map caused the problem.. the garage will fix it"

So... the garage put it back to stock and charged you £250??? Why did they not fix the map? which in there words were "it wasnt bad" (which wasnt even the good map we put on.. it was a reduced power map which lowered boost but still didnt solve the overboost issue)

Now. you have THREATENED us with leaving a bad review, going to HMRC, Citizens advice...

I dont take kindly to being threatened and i dont work for free!

Now, i did ask for a report from your garage stating "what in our file caused the overboost" and none has been provided..

As said, i would gladly refund you your money if there was an issue with my work. but there is not.

So, you expect us to put the work in, find out your car has an issue, then refund you? that is not how it works..

I have never gone back on a promise for a refund. i will gladly refund if there was an issue with my work! - Shame your remap expert cant give you that yeah?

Also, shame he put it back to stock rather than "fix my map" is that because there is no issue with my map? i think so...

VW remap and Paul was extremely knowledgeable and friendly. A problem was flagged up on the Van and he easily managed to rectify it and ensure a great outcome for me.
Engine running great and Van so much more pleasurable to drive and worth every penny

Very poor service and had the last review removed. All I say can be backed up and have proof. They came and basically destroyed the map on my car. This was later sorted by another company. Had to pay twice. The other company stated that this remap was substandard and not good for my engine. Works fine now.

Dragon claim your engine is this or that etc.. Its nonsense. The car had nothing wrong with the engine and had just been serviced 2 months prior, I would suggest staying well clear. If trust pilot require proof, I am more than happy to provide this.

This company uses off the shelf remaps, one size does not fit all. It was repaired by a company who write their own remaps. Again, if trust pilot need proof of this, I have it.

Ally, we are still waiting for you to take us to court. (its almost a year now)

What you fail to mention in this post is that we offered to visit your address free of charge to carry out a diagnostics on your car for you, but due to your impatience and demanding attitude, you were told that "diagnostics is chargable" we did not say we were going to charge diagnostics but wanted to point out that we were going above and beyond.

I personally know the person who "fixed" the map after us.. and he even said that there was nothing wrong with our work and the issue was in fact with your fuel rail pressure relief valve.

the fact you are upset about having to pay twice has nothing to do with us. we could have replaced the £25 part and charged £45 labour.. instead you chose to have the fuel pressure dropped to compensate for a faulty part and have the fault code deleted.

I am sorry, but we do not operate our business in this way. we will not cover up faulty parts by deleteing fault codes.

Brilliant product and service

Paul is a knowledgeable, friendly and helpful guy. Explained the benefits of remapping and the peace of mind of the year warranty on offer was gratefully accepted. The lift in performance and fuel efficiency is sizable post remap. By my reckoning, I'll have covered the cost of Paul's services within the year in fuel cost savings and the extra hp is a bonus. I'll use Paul again on my next car without a doubt.
