Incompetent, liars, bullies.
Don’t take my word. Look at all the reviews, all the comments and scores. Anybody else would be ashamed and heads would roll. If they were a genuine company in a competitive market, they would have crashed and burned decades ago.
But they are a government department. Answerable to nobody and effectively bomb proof. They are making my life a misery. Putting obstacles in front of me. Telling me lies and making up rubbish to stop me getting anywhere. I’m not sleeping at night wondering why they are like this to me.
I first acquired my driving licence aged 17. Now 54 years later I have kept a completely unblemished licence. Then I changed my address. Insurance, council tax you name it. I received my replacement V5 registration document almost immediately.
However, after well in excess of 3 months I cannot get my driving licence renewed. They claim to have sent it twice. That is a lie. I’ve sent a self-addressed tracked special delivery envelope by tracked special delivery. It has arrived but they won’t even acknowledge receipt. When I tried to call I was told by an operative that “I don’t meet security” so she can’t access my account. Another lie. I accessed it myself on their website. She could not explain what she meant by the security problem. She just noted my email address and said she would email the next steps to me. The email never arrived. Truth is she never intended to.
The DVLA has never offered a reason for their failure to provide my licence in fact won’t even discuss the problem.
What they did do was open their complaints procedure and then escalated it. That procedure has taken 4 weeks and no action has been taken and nobody will address the fact that I still don’t have a licence or what happened to the 2 licences they claim to have sent. Another lie.
I am at my wits end, not sleeping and have no direction or possibility of a resolution. Instead, I have a complaint. I do not want to complain, I don’t want a public flogging. I’m sure the last paragraph will give you immense satisfaction, so please send it round your staff so they can all enjoy gloating and imposing their superiority over lesser beings. That is what bullies do. The only thing I hope to achieve is that other victims will read this and voice their disgust.
I am isolated, helpless with no way of getting anything. You won’t let me talk to anyone. That’s what bullies do. I just want MY DRIVING LICENCE. They are doing all they can to prevent it happening. Surely that is against the law.
My case number contains two hyphens. These are characters not accepted by the DVLA in correspondence.
The last I heard from them after the complaint was escalated. They said they would reply within 10 working days. They lied again. Over a month later I haven’t received a reply because there was never an intention to send it.

Great service from DVLA’s online driving licence renewal service! Submitted Friday 13 June and new licence received today (Wednesday 18 Jun)! Couldn’t be simpler or easier!

Followed the instructions from the Web site, that was easy. New licence arrived 3 days later. Excellent service.

I used the number 03000790681 for the DVLA contact, the machine that responded to my call told me to wait 30 minutes and 40 minutes went by then the machine that responded said wait 10 minutes and I waited 29 minutes extra then I should've. I bought the car 11/3/2025, I got from the previous owner the green slip/ New keeper. I applied for the V5C and I sent it by post to the DVLA on the 12/03/2025, on the 04/04/2025 I received a letter, the same day I sent my response via email as they requested, to this day I haven't received a reply. I called one of the staff working there and he asked me what my email is and I gave it to him, and he told me he would get his team to get started on it. When I asked how long it shall take he said he doesn't know and used the excuse of the bank holiday whilst I had sent my email and details a long time before the bank holiday. It has been nearly over 40 days since I first sent and applied for the logbook and I still haven't received it. Many thanks

Claimed to be a swift process but I ordered for a license for close to for months and never received it. It’s difficult to get in touch with them I tried several times but was ignored. I decided looking for alternatives as I needed the license quick and thankfully I stumbled on an lnstagram third party company that facilitated my license renewal. It was a very fast and easy process. Just send holoprofiles a dm, they sent my license quick.

Ridiculous service,application for a drivers license has taken since 08/02/25 and it’s now 22/03/2025 .when I try to contact them using their chat it doesn’t connect,37 minutes I waited and still no connection sadly there is no one else you can apply to

I received a renewal advice to renew my driving licence. I completed the online renewal on Wed 25th September and received my new licence on Saturday 28th Sept. Excellent service.

Received new swanky card license well within the 3 weeks.
Had to replace my paper license, received the new card one 2 weeks later

Apply for it in May, trying to get a respond and 2 months had gone by and got nothing, and on 3rd month, they respond to just for 2 days and gone again. They have all my details. Worst service ever.

Applied to renew a driving licence last January (now July) and have just received it. Had to fill in a form that was badly written and impossible to fill in correctly. Twice they wrote to me asking for further information, saying that if I did not reply within ten days then my application would be cancelled and I would have to start all over again. What if I had been on a two week holiday!! This is totally inacceptable when it took them months to respond to my initial application. One star is too much. They should go to work in their office instead of skiving at home?!

Applied to renew licence in April 2022 we are now in July!!! No contact from them even though they have all my contact details , best it's knocked flat they all sacked and we start again let's face it can't be any worse can it ? Shame we can't mark lower than 1 on here.

Tried to pay for my car road tax over the automated telephone service and went through all the stages only to be cut off at the last stage. Telephoned again, just in case there was an issue with the line, only to have the same thing happen again. Really poor service.

Chat service is a joke. These civil servants wouldn't last 5 minutes in a real job.
They use the excuse " Due to the Covid Pandemic...."

Just discovered today my driving licence has expired in October no reminder from DVLA. Had I been in accident since October my insurance would not have been valid. Got caught speeding in December police did not notice expiry of licence. Did speed awareness course last week they did not notice. Telephone DVLA today ended call to busy. Went on chat line waited over half an hour, advisor was transferring me to another advisor who could help but none available, cut me of chat gave me same telephone number to ring. Then asked me to review service!!!!! Lost the will to live.

Well I had a jolly good laugh at the 79% approval rating when we all know full well that this is the most utterly useless of all the government departments. So we know that the figures have been clearly massaged and the reality is extremely different. A licence renewal should be an easy thing to facilitate, the requirements to generate them are standard and require little thought by the DVLA employees yet I have been waiting for nearly 4 months. I chased for an update in January and have only received a response to my beginning of January email chaser overnight. The response was that I needed to provide proof of who I was before they could tell me if my licence had been processed!!! Nearly 2 months just to respond with that! It’s incredible however that they can take the money you have to pay them to process the application without any issues. That process, for some reason, seems to go without a hitch! I wonder why? The DVLA are the DelBoy Trotter of government departments. They will be millionaires one day because they take payment but do nothing to deserve them. Shame on you DVLA.
