Stressful, disappointing, and full of mistakes
We had an incredibly stressful and disappointing experience with EDC Lord & Co while buying our first home.
Communication was poor throughout the process, which meant we rarely knew what was going on or what was expected of us. Long periods of silence - with questions going unanswered - would be followed by a flurry of important documents being sent with no introduction or guidance, leaving us to guess our way through. Small mistakes, like document titles not matching between emails and systems, made this even more difficult.
Due to EDC's poor time management, the end of the process (exchange and completion) was a stressful rush as, after months of hardly any updates or communication in which this could have been done, we were harangued to complete the anti-money laundering checks in an incredibly small window of time so that exchange could happen. This put us in a situation where we personally were being chased for updates by the estate agent and vendor's solicitor as they simply couldn't get hold of anybody at EDC Lord.
Then, on the afternoon of agreed completion day, we received an email demanding we pay EDC Lord's fees immediately or completion couldn't go ahead. This made it feel like our completion was being held to ransom.
To put the icing on the cake, we are now dealing with another mistake that has held up our first mortgage repayment.
Any emails we sent during the process that highlighted our concerns with their work were, of course, roundly ignored.
Needless to say, we would never even consider using EDC Lord & Co in future and I would never recommend them to anybody else.
