I’m usually very good at checking reviews but in this instance I went ahead and ordered. I mistakenly took it as coming from a London store via Royal Mail delivery as stated on their site. It took 3 weeks to come and when the dress eventually arrived it was nothing like the advert. The material was cheap and shiny but also one sleeve was at least 1 inch longer than the other.
I contacted them and was quoted between £25-40 to return to China and over 3 separate emails of complaint I was offered 30% refund and I could very generously keep something which was of no use whatsoever. I told them it was a faulty item but it fell on deaf ears. I’m still waiting for a response to my last email.
STAY CLEAR OF THIS COMPANY
This website presents itself as a London-based boutique, which is extremely misleading.
The site shows “Free Royal Mail delivery” (which strongly suggests UK dispatch) and a shopfront image labelled “Ella & James London”, implying a physical London store
The discounts also seemed very good, so I took the time to check Trustpilot before ordering. Based on what I saw there, I felt reassured and purchased the same dress in two different sizes, expecting to pay for UK return of the item that didn’t fit well.
Later that same evening I came across another website with a completely different name but almost identical design, products, and structure which raised concerns.
I went back to Trustpilot, I realised there appear to be at least two very similarly named business and it is difficult to tell which reviews relate to which site.
Looking into it more I discovered:
• Items may or may not arrive
• Products are reportedly low-quality and not as pictured (some reviews suggest images are AI-enhanced)
• Returns must be sent back to China at the customer’s expense, including shipping and customs
• The returns policy even prohibits ordering multiple sizes with the intention of returning one, which is completely unreasonable for clothing purchases
As soon as I realised I had been scammed I contacted my bank for advice and immediately emailed the company requesting a full refund before dispatch. I also made it clear I had been in contact with my bank and would escalate the matter to the relevant authorities. I feel very fortunate to have caught this in time, but be very aware and READ THEIR RETURNS POLICY before ordering and look at other reviews including ones on you tube.
In my view, this operates as a dropshipping scam, using misleading UK branding to create trust while exposing customers to significant risk.
I strongly advise you to be extremely cautious before ordering.
Some have said there is a genuine Ella James London store, their returns policy should help you recognise if the one you are on is it.
Delivery was a ridiculous amount of time and the garment arrived one week after the event that I had purchased it for. It was advertised as being delivered by Royal mail so I was not aware that it was coming from China. Returns policy means that it needs to be returned to China at my expense. Dress was ok when it arrived although the zip is very flimsy. It is however of no use to me as it arrived so late.
Awful company. They don’t reply to emails, and the returns process is practically non existent. The website appears to be AI generated, and the clothing is cheap quality, seemingly shipped from China. I would avoid.
