Review summary

Created with AI, based on recent reviews

Considering 43 reviews, most reviewers were let down by their experience overall. Many customers reported significant issues with product quality, particularly concerning the charging coasters failing within a year of normal use, with some experiencing problems as early as two to three months. The mugs themselves also frequently stopped working or charging after a year or two, and some experienced enamel flaking or deterioration, rendering the product unusable. Reviewers consistently described the customer service as non-existent, shocking, and appalling, with many struggling to get a response to their emails or contact a human representative. Conversely, a small portion of people felt satisfied with the customer service, noting prompt replies and helpful suggestions, even receiving replacements for out-of-warranty items. These customers expressed pleasure with the service and the product, highlighting its ability to maintain ideal beverage temperatures.

Unusable

Unusable. American plug supplied. Terrible customer service. Had to buy an adapter myself in the end.

Theoretically amazing

Got ember mugs for my wife and I for Christmas. We had the best coffee experience of our lives for about two weeks. By January 5th neither of them worked any more. From day one we had issues pairing the devices, and would have to do it every morning until one day one one just quit connecting. About four days later the other one quit working. Not worth the money at all.

Shipping delays and customer services don't care

Ordered on the 3rd December and it still hasn't arrived (21st December).

Tracking info just says "the parcel has been received at the depot". Delivery company won't speak to me as I'm not the sender. Contacted customer services who just said there's nothing they can do as it's with the courier - wouldn't even try and speak to the courier for me to find out if there was a problem with the consignment. If it's just delayed, when can I expect to receive it?

Doesn't look like my wife will be getting her Christmas present at this rate. Another 2020 experience.

The Mug is made in China NOT…

The Mug is made in China NOT California. You can find what it looks to be the same product without labeling "and labeling" for about $8-12 on Alibaba or Aliexpress. I got my mug and it was a piece of pure crap. I had to request a full refund. Luckily it stopped working within 30 days of purchase. Essentially this is a very well marketed, packaged, and branded scam Chinese product in my opinion. Very Impressed they made the fortune they made. This is no different than drop shipping or print on demand business in my opinion. Waste of money.

I Guess I Got Lucky ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Well this review is going to be a little different than most on here simply bcuz so far ... I LOVE THIS MUG! It is now 10 days and I have not had one single issue at all. The packaging was extremely professional and very high grade, definitely shows that you paid good money for an item. Prior to use of the mug I had a question about preheating the mug with hot water. Customer service responded within hours and stated that although it wasn’t necessary, it was absolutely ok to do so and in fact will help battery conservation as it won’t be needed to work as hard to heat your beverage if it’s not at your preset desired temperature when poured into the mug. I fully read all the instructions and owner manual prior to doing anything with the mug. My mug connected immediately and has not disconnected even once. I bought a Special Edition Metallic Collection Copper Ember Mug (10oz ceramic). I have tried many of the best of the best of mug warmers and used them with single wall borosilicate light weight mugs so heat can easily reach the product inside. None of them kept my daily double shot latte’ even as close to as hot as the Copper Ember Mug and Coaster do. I set my temperature at 142* on day one and have never had to reset it once. I also changed one of the preset temps to my desired 142* temp. I honestly believe people may be having the issues they have bcuz they are powering down their mugs everyday by actually pressing the power off button and turning it off. Then they have to start over the next time it’s used by powering back up and having to reconnect like ANY Bluetooth device would have to. It CLEARLY says (and recommends), you can leave it powered on & on the coaster 24/7/365 and it won’t hurt the mug at all. Once it reaches full charge it will automatically quit charging and stay connected. When the battery level starts to lower, it will continue to charge itself back to 100%. I have not had one single issue in any way with my mug in the first 10 days of operation. I have a double shot espresso 10 oz latte’ with sugar everyday and it stays perfectly hot right down to the last drop for the two hours I take enjoying it. I have even used a separate temperature gauge to make sure the 142* reading is correct and it is. I cannot say enough about this mug, I am truly surprised and it has easily surpassed my expectations. Now.... my only problem and it is a bit of a big one is the price, $149 CAD 😳. In saying that, if this mug lasts the year that it is warrantied to do so, without hiccups or issues and if problems do occur & they are resolved immediately by customer service, then it will absolutely be worth every single penny. If it doesn’t then my happiness will swiftly change to disappointment. I want to say this, I take VERY good care of my items especially a $150 coffee mug. I have purchased a cloth dust cover that completely covers both the mug and the coaster and it’s used daily when the mug is not in use. Yes I use sugar and wash it after every single use BUT I don’t use anything abrasive, I don’t even come close to submerging the mug nor do I get the coaster wet (I use moist wipes to clean it from rime to time). If you are smart, treat the mug with respect and do your homework on how it works instead of just unboxing and guessing that you know everything about this mug without reading the instructions, owner manual and other information thoroughly then you deserve to get the problems you do UNLESS you’ve truly received a defective mug and then I feel bad for those who have. I find it VERY hard to believe that this many people have received defective mugs and believe maybe many have not used and treated the mug correctly by the specs. In the end, as of day 10 . . I highly recommend this mug for those who like to take their time with their hot beverage. If you’re a person that chugs or only takes 1/2 an hour to drink your coffee, buy an insulated cup and enjoy. Besides that 10 days in my mug has been worth it and I am highly satisfied ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️. I will come back at the 30 day mark and edit on how it’s going whether it still be great or not great.

*** I do have one suggestion for any Ember Technologies employee reading this, I highly suggest some sort of a lid for the Ceramic Edition Ember Mug so that the beverage inside will stay warm longer and not use up as much of the battery strength to do so. This will give a longer battery life beyond the 90 minutes stated by the company prior to having to place your mug back on the coaster to charge and keep the beverage inside hot. ***

over priced and full of issues.

I loved features in this mug but the mug itself is not durable and full of bugs. Support stops after 1year for a $150 mug even though though there is an issue with mug itself. I would like to mention some issues that would definitely happen:
1. Auto turn on feature upon pouring liquid will stop working.
2. Mug will not turn on with single touch, you would have to rotate the bottom , continuously press ember logo and may be turn mug upside down to turn it on.
3. May be the battery refuses to charge.
All of these definitely sound like issues with mug itself and not a regular wear and tear. I recommend to get a 10$ Co***** auto seal mug which may not have fancy features but will last a lifetime compared to ember mug. Ember travel mug1 is definitely not worth 150$. may be it is worth ~ $70.

ember posting review guidelines say -- AVOID WRITING ABOUT SUPPORT `--- However I paid for support too not just for metal and plastic and i believe users have to know what they are getting into.
THE WORST SUPPORT I ever experienced for premium price products. They asked me to shoot a video explaining the issue so that they can place a replacement order even though i drafted a huge email explaining the issue. I shot a 2 min video showing the issue with mug and the reply i got back is that it is out of warranty and cannot do a replacement and then the support person said i can get `warranty price` on new version of mug2 and the price is $89 without lid(20$) and coaster(50$) and also without charging adapter (i assume 15$). You do the math. basically i am paying full price for the mug unit and the support made it sound like i am getting a great deal.
Ember does not have call support. All the above conversation happened over email and utmost frustration and patience.

Awful - AVOID AVOID AVOID!!!

Awful. I have had issues with my mug since I received it as a gift in August 2019.

First the coating came off. Ember sent a new mug.

Then the charging coaster stopped working - Ember sent a new coaster.

Then the connectivity issues. Oh these are a complete pain. As other reviews have said, you spend more time messing about with the app when you just want to sit down with a hot cup of tea. Every time I pour a drink, it tells me the heater is off and the drink goes cold. Useless. Unless I manually change it every time.

Ember have looked into the app and sent me yet another new mug and no fix has worked.

Completely unfit for purpose and a waste of £80 for what is just a heavy mug!!

I want a refund but Ember refuse telling me it’s out of warranty - even though I contacted them just weeks after first receiving the mug!!

Awful - AVOID!

Lid broke within a week

There is clearly a design issue with the lid as so many people are complaining and mine lasted only just over a week, before it was broken.

For such an extremely expensive product I would have expected the lid to be made from something other than cheap china plastic!.

If it was metal I think the problem would be resolved and for the money the lid lets the whole product down. So extremely disappointing and I DO NOT RECOMMEND purchasing until they fix the lid issue, which according to the reviews is the only major issue they have.

I am very pleased with the Mug2 itself and it performs as stated, so very pleased with that aspect. That being said, my customer service experience was excellent.

They were slow off the mark and I thought I was going to have a problem, but they asked for photographs, but responded very quickly and replaced the lid, which arrived in 5 days, which from the pacific coast of the USA to the UK I thought was excellent, so it has partially made up for my broken lid experience. I just hope it last longer than the first.

One other thing I was extremely disappointed in was I wrote a review on their website and they changed it to suite them taking out the negatives about the lid and changing my star rating, that is just DISHONEST and have to ask can you trust a company that does this? I certainly do not and in fact I call it corrupt, manipulating customer reviews.

Great mug awful customer service

Lid broke after 2 weeks. I then emailed CS for advice on how we could fix it, and am still waiting two weeks later. Have sent a reminder to them, but to no avail. What is wrong with losing customers that love the product just because they cannot get their act together?

They Have Given Up

They Have Given Up

My Ember has been a disaster from when I got it over a year ago. They had to replace charging plates (twice) because the charging pins were faulty. The replacements took weeks and weeks to arrive on both occasions.

The connectivity is awful - you'll spend more time fiddling with the app than drinking coffee. It will tell you that it's empty when it's not, it will tell you that that cup can't be found - it will tell you to reset, etc, etc, etc - by the time you have managed to get the thing working, your coffee will be cold and any pleasure you would have in drinking the cup in the first place will replaced by frustration.

Ember takes all the good out of drinking coffee.

I could actually live with all of the above, but now the the internal coating on the cup has started to peel away. I contacted support, not to ask for a replacement, but simply to ask if the thing was safe. Who knows that sort of chemicals are in the coating or indeed in whatever the cup is made from. Potentially a danger to health.

No response, followed up with a reminder a few days later and still no response.

In short - massively overpriced, poor build quality, awful software and potentially hazardous to your health.

Ember takes all the good out of a cup of coffee - my advice is to save yourself the $$$ and stick to a normal cup.

Got the Ember Mug as Xmas present..

Got the Ember Mug as Xmas present and really like the idea of it. The mug works and keeps my tea at the desired temperature.

Unfortunately I always receive a small electric shock when touching the mug while it's on its charging plate.

2 weeks ago, I contacted their support but never got a response. The company behind seems to have no customer support.

Very very bad customer service !

This company is soo complicated and they don't give a sh..t about there customers!

First I wanna get my girl a ceramic mug for the valentine , but thanks to all reviews , I realized it was a bad idea as the product has a coating problems .

So I decided to get the travel mug , I asked them if they can remove the price as it a gift and would be delivered directly to my girl , they said it wasn't possible!!!!
Finally I decided to deliver it to my house then forward it to her to take out the price !
I made the order, and I went to sleep , the next day no email , no tracking info , I checked the website !
And I found that the order was cancelled.
I sent them an email an 8 hours later no response!
I tried the chat , and they was there ! Before you buy they respond in a minute ! But after they don t .
They said that the system was confused about my location ( why a fu.... website would track my location ) !!! They said the system affect you electrical plug ( Eu/Us ) according to you ip location even if the delivery address is located in the US !

Anyway bottom of the line , these guys don t give a sh...t about the customer!
