Never again will I buy a caravan with e&p self levelling system fitted. I have an 18 month old buccaneer stuck in a store with legs stuck down. E&p will fix it if I can get the van to them, err it’s stuck with legs down. Not interested in sending a tech out to raise the legs, too much hard work. Appalling customer service, just not interested albeit dawn at rosmia the E&p agent, has tried to help best she can but is now stuck. I’m now escalating this to dealer and hymer

Flawed Design

Had the Level C Compact installed to my caravan by an E&P premium partner, after using I find that the system is not simply “press a button” to level side to side. I also believe that this system has serious safety concerns when levelling and also has a major design flaw.

Using the automatic levelling procedure does not level the caravan side to side correctly, in my case the level is off requiring the nearside to be manually lifted to correct and level the caravan. When using the automatic levelling procedure the front to back LED’s do not extinguish when at level, the LED’s continuously oscillate on/off, micro adjustment of the jockey wheel has no effect. Note that when using the manual option to lower either side jacks it is not possible to raise them individually, for example if you have lowered a jack too far. The only option is to go through the full automatic retract procedure and start again, I mention this because on page 11 of the manual it specifically states that the left and right axle jack can be used to control the retracting and extending of the jacks, clearly this is not so. In all cases a spirit level on the floor is required to level the caravan side to side to ensure accurate levelling.

It is evident that the control panel has been designed for European caravans with the habitation door on the offside, with UK caravans the control panel caravan graphic appears reversed such that the A frame is pointing towards the rear, creating confusion on which jack to lower. A simple design change for the membrane keypad graphic would cure this anomaly for the UK market.

More seriously the system has safety concerns when levelling on sloping ground that requires additional wooden boards (or equivalent) under each jack. For example placing the boards underneath the offside jack and then levelling via the control panel in the caravan means that you cannot observe the action of the jack on the boards to see if any issues arise, such as slipping. I find this most concerning and the only way to overcome this is to buy the remote control as an extra. Unfortunately the price of this remote control is horrendously expensive at £250 and cannot be justified given that the manufactured cost would be around £20. However even if you did buy this remote control it has a major design flaw.

Why on earth did the designers of this remote control design it such that the A frame is pointing towards the rear when actually standing at the A frame? By holding the remote control in the most logical direction the button graphics are upside down! this applies to both European and UK caravans. The most obvious use of this remote control is to stand at the A frame and lower or raise the jockey wheel watching for the level LED’s on the remote control and to move around the front of the caravan to monitor safe levelling of the jacks. Again a design change to the membrane keypad graphic would cure this design flaw - having the A frame pointing towards the front with the buttons in correct orientation.

Overall I am extremely disappointed with this system and astonished that some parts of the design ever left the R&D department into production.

Non durable and expensive repairs.

The system was fitted as standard to my coachman caravan. When two half years old arriving on a site the system stopped working with the legs halfway down, the hand held controller had frozen, nothing I did could unfreeze it. Phoned my dealer he had no ideas. Was forced to use emergency retraction button and travel back home. On contacting E&P they advised me to let the controller discharge fully and then recharge , if that worked they couldn’t guarantee it wouldn’t happen again! They also told me about an emergency lower and raising method. Unfortunately no one had told my dealer and it was NOT mentioned in the handbook. Because of fear of it happening again I purchased a new controller at over£500.
Move forward to 3 weeks ago ( caravan 3.5 years old) on retracting the legs I found the foot on the near side hydraulic leg had come off and was stuck in the mud. Apparently it cannot be refitted and a complete new leg has to installed at a cost of about £240.
So I am having to spend around £800 on a 3 year old van because of the unreliable and non durability of this system! It seems ridiculous that a complete new leg is needed just because the foot came off when stuck in mud.

Hello Anthony
Thank you for your review on our products. In regard to your touch panel experience, all dealers should be aware and it is widely publicised online how to deploy and retract the system via the cradle, this is also in the user manual.
Normally there is a reason why the footplate comes away from a cylinder, your statement is it “got stuck in the mud” what were the ground conditions like? If the footplate has come away, it is likely due to excessive force and a sheared bolt, when this happens it becomes difficult to remove the remains of the bolt with risking further damage to the cylinders. Therefore a replacement will be required.
It is unfortunate that both of your failures have occurred outside of our warranty, but my team will always try to help where we can. Please reach out to us directly if you have any questions.

Change of view

In the past I have been very disillusioned with the EP self levelling system. It was very hit and miss. However, since the involvement of EP personnel the system now appears to be operating as it should.
If the self levelling continues working correctly then I shall have to change my previous negative views, thanks to the service given by EP employees.

Worth its weight in GOLD!

Had an E&P levelling system fitted to our new caravan in 2018 (By SAP in Doncaster). Just had the full system swapped over onto our new 2024 caravan (again by SAP in Doncaster). Our opinion - the system is worth it's weight in gold!!! Easy to use and effortless levelling on all campsites we have visited. The caravan feels so stable as well with 6 points of contact on the ground as well as the wheels. Also, ever tried to put in 2 ALKO wheel locks in a twin axle? Pretty difficult? Not the this levelling system. Simply put it into manual mode, lower the near side jack and raise the wheels off the ground, spin them and put the ALKO locks in!
The system has not been any problem at all.
Very surprised by some of the negative comments. In fairness, never needed to speak to E&P direct so can't really comment about their level of service, but the system itself is fantastic! Maybe some people have unrealistic expectations or in some cases, don't understand how the system works (e.g. making sure the caravan nose is lower than the back so the levelling system can work out its "start" position ready for auto-levelling?).
Anyway, a fabulous system that makes levelling a caravan effortless.

5 Star Customer Service

I recently encountered an issue with the handset on my E&P self-levelling system. Specifically, when attempting to use the manual mode, the left-hand jack would not operate. Frustrated and in need of a solution, I reached out to E&P's aftermarket team for assistance.

I was pleasantly surprised by the swift response I received from Adam Betteridge, the UK Aftermarket Sales Manager. His promptness in addressing my concern was truly commendable. Upon providing him with further details regarding the malfunction, Adam demonstrated exceptional customer service by arranging for a new handset to be sent to me at no additional cost.

This level of customer care exceeded my expectations and left me thoroughly impressed. Adam’s efficient and considerate handling of the situation ensured that my problem was resolved quickly and without any hassle.

I am extremely satisfied with the support I received and would like to extend my gratitude to Adam for his outstanding service. Without a doubt, this experience merits a 5-star rating for the excellent customer service provided. Thank you, Adam!

Mixed Feelings About System

This is a late review as I wanted to see how the system functioned following an earlier complete failure. I had the caravan system fitted by Rosmia in 2022. I used the van about 4 times in 2022 and was impressed with the system, but the jacks failed to retract this year as we prepared to set off on our second trip of the year. I couldn’t fix the problem myself, so I rang E&P HQ in Blackburn for help and encountered the rudest person I have ever had the misfortune to deal with. The woman who answered the phone was curt, unhelpful and unsympathetic and she blatantly ‘gaslighted’ me throughout by remaining silent for long periods after each of my questions. I then tried Rosmia and eventually arranged an engineer visit about 8 days later - this was the earliest Rosmia could attend because of staff problems and training commitments. The first engineer was patient and understanding and eventually managed to retract the jacks but was unable to sort the problem; I then had to take the van to Rosmia (a long return trip) where they completely stripped and re-made the system. The job took over 4 hours and was carried out while I waited. The cause of the problem was apparently a loose hydraulic nut. The work was completed thoroughly, but at no point did the second engineer (who also first fitted the system) or Rosmia offer any sort of apology beyond one of the staff giving me a cup of tea. In fact I was told in no uncertain terms when I first reported the problem that I would be liable for everything, including the call out, if the problem was not covered by the warranty. I was left feeling that the problem was my fault. The system is working properly now and it is an excellent addition to our caravan, but my confidence in it has been ruined. This is a shame as I submitted a favourable review after I first had it fitted. The system is very good, but I’m not sure I would have shelled out so much money on such a complicated and (in my experience) unreliable system. I have also been less than impressed by the customer service I have received following the malfunction, particularly from E&P HQ’s appalling representative. NB the dates in this review are approximate as Rosmia seem to have removed all customer reviews from their website.

Disappointed!

I spent £6000 on an E+P Levelling System for my motorhome. I would hope that an installer would check everything was operating as it should. I have previously owned an E+P system on a used motorhome, and I've had an Amplo system on my first new one. I also have friends amongst our motorhome community with the MAVE system and they speak well of it. My experience so far with the latest E+P system and the removable handset is as follows:
1. Handset shows vehicle front and rear the wrong way round on the cradle. Very confusing if you're operating manually on the cradle, as I HAVE to.
2. When I remove the handset, it cannot communicate with the levellers control unit - in fact a search reveals no comms whatsoever.
3. I can put the levellers up or down with the engine running, even in gear (surely wrong).
4. Oil leaks from the metal shroud around the hydraulics.
5. More often than not, it refuses to level, even on almost level but uneven ground.
6. An emission from the levellers control is interfering with the vehicle alarm.
7. The legs retract violently!
On the Amplo system, I could not run the engine with the levellers operating and both the deployment and retraction of the legs was smooth. Also, the pad had a code which meant nobody could take the vehicle off the levellers without inputting the security code. The Amplo system NEVER failed to get us level!

We live in Portugal went for the E&P having had in on a Buccaneer, and loved it.
Had it fitted to my new Hobby bought Portugal and had the self level fitted in the UK by Redditch Sporttec, system works well, but it has its limitations on very sloping ground so you do need to carry some good blocks so the rams don't run out of stroke before it's finished leveling.
Our Hobby seems higher than the British caravans which doesn't help.
Would buy it again.

Used the caravan 5 times and travelling down the M56 the the centre foot plate fell off - I’m been told because the centre bolt has sheared off its not warranty because they have accused me of hitting something- but when questioned about if the bolt had been over tightened at time of assembly at the factory they couldn’t comment? Help with technical problem.

Had a technical problem with the levelling system in my new caravan (caused by myself) so I wrote to E P and had a very quick response and excellent easy to follow instructions on how to fix it which I could never had done by myself. Such a refreshing change to have such good after sale service. Well done.

Remote sorted

After having a repair carried out at Blackburn depot I couldn't pair my remote following the instructions, I bought a replacement remote and that wouldn't pair either. I took my van back to Blackburn and in minutes Chris figured out that the Donkeys at Elddis had labelled the fuse box incorrectly. Well done Chris znd team at E&P.

Expensive, unreliable and stressful.

I had the full E&P system fitted by Rosmia around one year ago. To be honest, it has never worked properly outside the nice level confines of their workshop. I am convinced there is a fault with the levelling part if the system as every time we use it, it ends up out of level despite many manual set ups and recalibrations. On one occasion the jacks refused to retract. They sent an engineer out to get them to go up and then I had to deliver the caravan back to their workshop which is a good six hour round trip. They replaced a washer, tested the system and declared it as fine. Got home from a trip today, pressed the auto level button when on our drive and the near side axle jack nearly blew a gasket trying to lift the van right off the ground even when it was already far too high on that side already. We purchased this system to remove the hard work and stress of levelling up on sites. I wish we hadn’t bothered as the worry about what is going to go wrong next is far more stressful. Don’t waste your money.

First class caravan installation by SAP Doncaster

Having ordered the full caravan levelling system, as the initial installation date approached, supply issues on the continent resulted in a new installation date being advised. This was now after our planned holiday to France. When SAP were told about our holiday to France they pulled out all the stops and were able to fit the system just 4 days before we set off for France. The SAP team has years of experience installing these systems and did a fantastic job for us. Full demonstration when we collected the caravan after the installation. Very friendly team and great customer service. If you want the E&P system fitted to your caravan, I completely recommend SAP Doncaster.

Avoid SAP in Doncaster.

If you want E&P fitted my advice is to avoid SAP in Doncaster. Five years ago I posted a positive review when they fitted it on my motorhome, but there is no doubt in my mind that this firm is not what it was. I had it fitted once again last summer on a French motorhome that had so many problems that I rejected it. SAP removed the system and early this year refitted it on a new Globecar I'd managed to get hold of. They also fitted Gaslow for me.

When I got home I noticed that the solar monitor wasn't working, so took it to Rhino Installs in Preston, who fit all my electrical accessories. They told me that a fuse had been removed during the E&P installation but more importantly, they'd disconnected my B2B charger, which meant that my 200amp lithium battery would not have been charging as we drove. I also ordered a Gaslow internal monitor for two cylinders. I put it in writing and even added a link to the product. When I collected it they'd fitted a single-cylinder monitor!

They agreed to replace it with the dual monitor and to avoid a lengthy journey we agreed to call in to SAP on our way to the Channel Tunnel. This meant staying the night on their industrial estate. The next morning they replaced the monitor with the correct one. A job that most dealers budget an hour for took four hours, so we missed our train and had to get a later one.

But what was in my opinion totally unreasonable was being presented with a bill for £25 as the dual monitor is a bit more expensive! I've no doubt that if I'd had to make a special journey from Lancashire, at great cost, they'd still wanted their twenty-five quid!

I'm a businessman and if a customer of mine had been put to so much trouble, the last thing I'd have done was worry about £25! The firm is a victim of its own success and the growth in motorhome sales and is so busy that I don't suppose it matters if they upset a few clients. But I think they've become greedy, emphasised by his offer to me of doing the E&P transfer for cash.

I had no intention of posting a negative review, but after I wrote to him outlining all the problems I'd had, and in particular the stupidity in upsetting a customer of long standing by charging £25 to someone who'd been put to so much aggravation, his reply was to thank me for my letter and that it had been read and noted. Not one word of apology for my inconvenience and their incompetence.
