Lack of transparency cost me £1700 in Legal Fees
I had a bad experience with this estate agent. I put an offer in for flat that was for sale. i had a mortgage offer that lasted for a limited period of time. the estate agent was not transparent about the sellers completion date. seller wanted to move in January 2023, my mortgage offer was only up until October 2022. instead of being upfront and letting me know Alex strung me along. Making excuses that the market was moving slow and that's why it was taking so long, saying he couldn't speed up the solicitors because if he keeps calling them they will stop answering the phone to him. all along he was just trying to delay the sale for the sellers, as they were trying to avoid paying the early redemption fee. I paid and lost £500 brokers fee's and £1200 solicitors fee because Alex was not being transparent about the sellers plans for completion date. I only found out about the sellers completion date when my solicitor received information from the sellers solicitors in which the information was outlined. when i approached him to ask him why he never told us, he simply said it was on the cards they wanted to move in December, but wasn't set in stone lol. after that i knew i would never get a straight answer from this guy and my confidence in getting a straight forward answer from him DISSAPEARED.. In the end we had to reapply for a new mortgage with increased intrest rates.. and find a new property. all because he was stringing us along.. what a joke.. when we told him we would have to pull out he said, and i quote "it is what it is". can you believe this response from the person that had just cost me £1700. not sure if this was a one off situation or if he just doesn't give straight answers. ask all the right questions and listen to his responses. if your not happy move along. it could cost you in the long run. The house Will now be put back on the market. will he tell new buyers they have to wait until January before completion or will he string them along..
