Review summary

Based on reviews, created with AI

Most reviewers were unhappy with their experience overall. Many customers expressed dissatisfaction with the product quality, citing issues such as torn covers, missing dust jackets, and extensive markings in books advertised as "good" or "new" condition. Reviewers also frequently encountered problems with their orders, including receiving incorrect editions, damaged items, or only partial shipments. A significant number of people were particularly frustrated with the refund process, reporting that their requests were ignored or denied, even with proof of damage. Additionally, many felt that the pricing was misleading, as they paid premium prices for items that were clearly not as described or were available for much less elsewhere.

UNK uses them for textbooks through Marketplace. Purchased a "Used Like New" as there were no new Human Anatomy textbooks available for $292, only to find out that Amazon sells it new for $170.... way to rip off college students.

Left a very bad taste...

They claimed to have sent the $10 copy of a book I never received; claimed not to have another copy to replace it; claimed to have refunded the $10; and then I discovered that the book I ordered was now listed again by them on Abe at over $40.
Most booksellers are in the business for love of it, and not to make a fast buck. Ergodebooks, on the other hand...
Obviously, I will never buy from them again, and would not recommend them to anyone else.

Bad faith company

The book I received was rated as being in FINE condition. Instead it was a heavily used former library book (not disclosed) with ripped dust cover and dirty edges. Due to the cost of shipping it back I am out the cost of the book. They can improve their service by providing an accurate description and rating.

Purchase Elsewhere

My book was purchased as a used book in excellent condition. Once it arrived, it was in poor condition at best. There was writing throughout the book, the back section became unbound and chunks of pages falling out. It was worn and beyond well used. They tried to say all of this happened during shipping, ha! Do yourself a favor and look elsewhere to purchase. On the plus side, if you can call it that, I was refunded $3.

RUN AWAY FROM THIS SELLER!!

Purchased a book from them via AbeBooks. Their listing showed all the book descriptive information, but apparently with the wrong ISBN number. What they shipped was the book that matched the wrong ISBN number, and rather than refund and return, offered me 20% of the original purchase price...for a book I cannot use and which has no value to me. Scammers.

I received the wrong book

I received the wrong book. I sent the book back. They received the book on Sept 9th 2024. I requested a full refund of my original purchase. Today is Sept 24 2024. Still have not received my refund! I would highly recommend staying away from this seller. They are bad news!👎

Book Scammers

Book ordered with 5 week delivery time, OK we are across the Atlantic, 6 weeks a notice ''it is delayed'', then ''it's lost'' message, claim a refund. As this was ordered through Amazon, the steps required took another few days then more for the refund. Once that arrived the harassment started!!
1st emails through Amazon to eradicate the 1 star review I'd left and leave a better review. Then the phone calls started every day, they asked for a new review and for my personal email which was denied. Then more requests through Amazon to cancel the original 1Star and give a better rating.
As an Amazon supplier they know a refund is required and why badger, pester, generally harass for a better rating, surly all that effort cost more then the book!
An international call to a cell phone where I am located the charge from the border to my phone is charged to ME, not a happy bunny and reported same to Amazon who I hope will cut this scamming lot off at the knees.

Very sad and disappointed about my…

Very sad and disappointed about my recent purchase of a book I had book looking for for some time, via Amazon Marketplace.

The content of the book is 5*, however it was mis-described as "Used - good", and supplied in a condition that was unusable to me (as I want to read it in its entirety - it may have been usable by someone who only wanted to read specific chapters which were undamaged).

The seller accepted the refund in principle, but required me to return the book at my own expense (over £20), which would have left me out of pocket. They eventually refunded 30% of the purchase price, but I have been left having spent money on a book I cannot use, and that I would not have bought if the condition had been described accurately and the defects had been noted as they should have been. Amazon were uninterested and directed me back to the seller.

I could have pursued my rights under UK consumer protection law, but this would have been stressful and time-consuming, and I should not have had to (Amazon should have dealt with it, since they had sold it in the UK).

If you are considering buying from this seller, I would recommend checking other reviews on the internet very carefully. This has also been a wake-up call to me over Amazon's own customer service policies, and I will consider buying from platforms which offer greater protection, in future.

Never received item

Never received item, when I contacted them I was told address was incomplete (which is rubbish because it is address attached to PayPal and IS correct), and that I was responsible for not collecting after failed delivery (ummm, no I wasn't).
Refunded instantly without consultation, when I asked to have items resent they now state not in stock even though they previously stated 'returned to sender'.
DODGY DODGY!
STAY AWAY, BIG SCAM.

Purchased $45 book, got a $2 book

I purchased a $45 book and they sent a $2 book- a beat up paperback of A Tale of Two Cities, heavily underlied and highlighter. Can find this book at any church sale in North America for $2. Have not gotten a refund or heard back since they said to send the book back, which I paid to do. Total scam.

Multiple bad experiences

Have attempted to purchase from this vendor on two separate occasions. Both involved niche/hard to find editions which were priced exceptionally reasonable. On both occasions I had to reach out several weeks after the items "shipped" to inform them I never received them. Both times ergodebooks blamed the postal vendor for losing the items.

I was refunded, which makes this hurts less. BUT on both occasions I have found the particular books re-listed at triple the price I initially tried to purchase. Scum behavior.

They don't have in stock what they advertise.

I made a purchase from this site and more than a week later received notice I would receive a refund within 2-4 days. No explanation. No reason given. Nothing. I called and spoke to someone who could hardly understand and communicate. The line went silent with no warning. I waited a few minutes and was then told the book wasn't available. When I mentioned that it was STILL listed on their site, there was no reason given. I believe since this is a hard-to-find book, they were planning to increase the price. I don't know that, but just the way this all took place was very shady. Stay away from this site. And they are on Amazon as well.

Lack of care in filling orders

Purchased an oop original softcover copy of Sarah J. Maas’s ACOWAR for the outrageous price those old copies are going for. They sent me a tracking that was no good and on the supposed arrival date (as detailed on their site and not USPS) when it didn’t show I contacted them. It seems they shipped it then. And when it arrived I got a hard cover with no dustjacket that was not worth the price those books are going for. No care whatsoever with customer service. They are offering a full refund but I’m a bit nervous about trusting them to actually refund me once I send it off.

Don’t always believe the bad reviews

I recently purchased a book from them that I was having trouble finding. Was nervous as I read the reviews after. I’m happy to say I didn’t share the same experience. Despite they are a U.S company the book was delivered in a timely manner to Australia. No damage to the package. Book arrived as advertised and no issues with the quality. The only downside is there doesn’t seem to be an automatic system to check or be emailed the status of the order. The only auto email I received was the purchase order. I had to email them for an update but they replied quickly and with details of tracking numbers and the courier details.
I would buy from them again.

Ergode are book jackers

This company doesn't actually have any books--they are "book jackers." What's a book jacker? They find reputable listings for books, relist with a marked up price, and if someone buys a book from them, they arrange for the other seller to send it, keeping the difference. While that may work most of the time, it means you pay more, often buy a book that isn't really available anymore, and, at best, wait a really long time to get your book. And, shame on biblio and other online book selling platforms for keeping them in business. If they kicked them out, that would be the end of them. Search a little more--Ergode doesn't have any books.
