We bought this escape room (online)…

We bought this escape room (online) event after finishing all of the ones we enjoyed and searching for others.
We bought the ‘Sherlock Debut’ order.
It was shockingly bad.

To be fair, it was an online game; but perhaps for younger adults, or younger kids.

To be fair again, we are not sure if we would have perhaps enjoyed it more if not having first completed the currently available games at WolfGames.

These were better crafted, with more variety of option, and simply better.

We are in no way affiliated with them. My wife simply ordered them first. Hence the mention.

Perhaps if we had played the games from the companies the other way around we would have enjoyed these more.

In essence, not for beginners. Or those of ages 14+.

AVOID – Unprofessional staff ruined our team event

I booked the Peaky Blinders room at the Constitution Hill (Birmingham) location for a 2:00 PM session today for a team-bonding event. What was supposed to be a high-energy, immersive experience turned into a hostile confrontation thanks to a completely unhinged Game Master.
During the briefing, the GM explicitly set the tone by telling us the room was 18+ and that he was going to swear at us so much he’d "make us cry in a corner." He kicked off the game by calling our group "bastards."and other profanity.
In the spirit of the "Peaky Blinders" theme and following the GM’s lead, I stayed in character and responded with a profanity. Instead of staying professional, the GM completely lost it. He broke character, stormed into the room, and went "mental" at me.
It is incredibly hypocritical to brag about how "tough" and "foul-mouthed" your actors are, only for them to have a total meltdown the moment a customer gives them that same energy back. His volatile behavior made the entire team feel uncomfortable and unsafe, forcing us to walk out mid-session.
Our team-building day was completely ruined. If you are looking for a professional, well-managed immersive experience, do not go here. The staff clearly cannot handle the "gritty" environment they claim to create. Still waiting on a full refund for this disaster.

Great time

Great time! We did the Room 13, our host was Jay, who as part of the experience, made it. We nearly escaped and was a few scares along the way with this room. Will def return.

Had a great time here

Had a great time here, excellent fun with the puzzles, multiple rooms, some scares! Our puzzle master (is that the correct terminology?) was Jacob and he was very friendly, great puzzle related puns and settled us in very well.

Confusing and frustrating experience

I booked the Jack the Ripper escape room for £88 via the website for two people.

All we were given was two of the cheapest-looking toy lanterns before being left in the most pitch black room imaginable which we, initially, had no way of communicating with the host from once the door shut behind us. Our first task was to find a key to unlock the padlocked gate which was preventing us from accessing the next room.

After finding a big long stick and a key inside a plastic box on the wall that said on it that we could break it for the key, we did, thinking it was for the padlocked gate. This turned out to be a huge mistake as a different staff member (who did not introduce themselves) then opened the door behind us and said we would have to pay a fine for breaking it. At that point, we were not given a choice of whether we wanted to continue with the experience or not, so it was just assumed that we did as this staff member almost immediately shut the door behind us without giving us a chance to ask questions. I found this quite shocking because it put my friend and I in an awkward position where we were just expected to carry on like nothing happened.

Even when we continued with the experience and found the actual key to unlock the padlocked gate, the intercom for communication was hardly helpful due to how quiet and muffled the line was. It also did not help that the sound effects within the room were extremely distracting and one of our toy lanterns died on us which we eventually received a replacement for but not until considerable time had passed.

After the 60 minutes was up, we were reminded about paying the fine by the host, which I challenged, as this was not something we had been fully informed about prior to starting. However, neither the host, nor the other staff member, attempted to take any accountability or apologise for the misunderstanding and it felt counterproductive trying to reason with them.

Avoid this place at all costs as it's not worth the price or the service it offers.

AWFUL

AWFUL, we thought its would be fun to do an online escape room with the kids for the afternoon. My god were we disappointed. £20 paid for one of the worst point and click games I have ever played. All the information was highlighted for you there was not a single puzzle that actually made you think and we spent more time listening to the characters than actually clicking on things. You click on one thing per room 2 at the most and you don’t even have to look for them in the rooms as they flash. Couldn’t tell you what else was in the rooms because there was not need to look. Bitterly disappointing. I played better point and click games in the naughties and paid nothing for them so to pay £20 for this waste of time in 2025 leaves a very bitter taste. Won’t be trying the actual rooms now either after this disappointment we will be heading back to know escape and cluetopia for our future escape room needs.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ An Unforgettable Birthday Adventure at Escape Live Birmingham!

I wanted to do something truly unique to celebrate my daughter’s 21st birthday, something more memorable than the usual meal or night out. After a bit of searching, I discovered Escape Live Birmingham, and I’m so glad I did! With an impressive variety of escape rooms on offer, we opted for the Dr Watson Room, not realising at the time that it’s one of their most difficult five-star challenges!

We were advised to arrive 20 minutes early, which gave us time to park up, plenty of nearby car parks and very reasonably priced. As we approached the venue, we were immediately struck by the character of the building itself, beautifully presented and full of atmosphere. The welcome we received from the staff, Jay, Mark, and Rob, was second to none. They were warm, enthusiastic, and genuinely passionate about making our experience fantastic.

Being complete escape room novices, we were a little nervous, but Jay quickly put us at ease, walking us through the basics and getting us set up. After a quick waiver and briefing, Mark led us to the room and set the scene, immersing us in a thrilling, Sherlock-style mystery with just 60 minutes on the clock to crack it!

Without spoiling any of the surprises (because trust me, you want to discover them for yourself), I’ll just say the room was brilliantly designed, clever puzzles, intricate details, and a truly immersive storyline. It was extremely challenging, but once we unlocked the first clue, our confidence soared and we were hooked!

After our exhilarating attempt to escape, Rob welcomed us back to the lounge area, which was tastefully decorated and incredibly cosy, the perfect place to unwind with snacks and drinks while we chatted about the experience.

Whether you're celebrating a special occasion, planning a team-building activity, or just looking for a fun and intellectually stimulating outing, I couldn’t recommend Escape Live Birmingham more highly. We had an absolute blast and are already planning our next visit.

A huge thank you to the incredible team — Jay, Mark, and Rob — for making my daughter’s birthday so special. Five stars all the way!

We went for our very 1st time today…

We went for our very 1st time today to the Liverpool venue (8/5/25) and did the Watson escape room. Unsure of what to expect, but we needn't have worried. James was our host and he was a star. Management should be proud to have someone so customer focused working for them.
We had such a good time.....and surprised ourselves getting some of the clues!
Very welcoming, clean and bright. Great for a couple or a crowd. Something for everyone and a great bar area to relax in afterwards. Don't forget to sign the wall.
Would highly recommend.
Can't wait to do our next escape .......Peaky Blinders here we come !
5***** experience.

Not a great experience unfortunately

We were booked in at 5pm last Saturday in Birmingham for the Jack the Ripper escape room. When we arrived we were told the rules - and certain things that were not part of the game.
After the game we were told we had been fined £5 due to breaking the glass to retrieve a key that WAS NOT part of the game. Had we been told this at the beginning or it had been clearer we would not have broke the glass (However when you are in an escape room looking for a key and it says on the wall break glass for key it happens!) We were happy to pay the fine as we did break the glass (this was not the issue) but the hostility we had in return when we told the manager this needs to be explained better at the beginning was not great. We found the manager rude and unprofessional, saying when we broke the glass we said this was an emergency - which if this was true they never responded and got us out at all!) Also she told us had we broke the lanterns we would have been fined for that - we didn't break them but again it would be nice to cover this at the beginning when reading the rules. I have been to Coventry escape rooms before and find them far better and informative. We won't be returning for a visit
