Costa Rica (Arenal/Tamarindo)
Took a trip to Costa Rica, visiting Arenal (rainforest) and Tamarindo (western beach) - held reliable connection in both areas, and during the four hour drive from one place to another. Only lost LTE at the airport, but we were under a metal roof along with a few hundred travelers with their phones out - but still never lost a connection. Highly recommend!

Don’t use in Costa Rica
In Costa Rica, Holafly use a network called Liberty. It worked fine in San Jose, but as soon as we got away from large towns on our road trip it failed. Over the three weeks I would say it worked about half the time, which was really annoying when relying on Android Auto for the satnav! I tried turning on and off my phone and that worked a couple of times but most times not.

Untransparent Billing, Sudden Disconnection, and Useless Support
I rarely write reviews, and when I do, I much prefer leaving positive feedback over negative ones. However, in this specific case, I feel it is incredibly important to share my experience to warn other travelers.
I used Holafly's monthly 25GB subscription. Right in the middle of my trip to Costa Rica, my internet was suddenly cut off without warning. They claimed my data volume was used up, but my smartphone's internal data tracker clearly showed I had used less than 20GB. The support team strictly refused to provide any proof, technical evidence, or system logs for the alleged consumption.
The explanation of their billing cycles was even more bizarre: Although my monthly payment was always charged on the 18th, three different support agents gave me three completely different start dates for my usage cycle in the chat (the 3rd, the 7th, and the 18th of the month). Their system is completely untransparent and seems entirely arbitrary.
Instead of actually solving the problem, admitting their system's flaws, or offering a goodwill gesture for my immediate upcoming trip, I only received pre-written text blocks. To top it off, they seriously suggested I just upgrade to a more expensive unlimited plan. My demand for a pro-rata refund for paid but unrendered services was completely ignored. I am now forced to reclaim my money through a credit card chargeback.

Holafly was easy to use and good service throughout my trip.
Holafly was easy to choose a plan and install the esim. Price was competive and I had service throughout my trip in costa rica. The online help was great. I had to ask some questions and it was around 10pm and I got a live chat person. Very helpful.
Holafly is my go to for anytime I need…
Holafly is my go to for anytime I need coverage while traveling. Within the last six months I have used them in Costa Rica, Iceland, United Kingdom, and the Cayman Islands. I recommend them for any travel.
I bought a 25 day Latin American…
I bought a 25 day Latin American Holafly esim. It worked perfectly in Mexico. When arriving to Costa Rica it switched to the Liberty cell provider and I had virtually no coverage. No email, whatsapp, or any other apps worked. I could see where I was on google maps after a while but could not get directions. Could not switch from 3G to 5G. I was in many different places in CR (S.Jose, pacific coast, carribbean coast) - same lack of coverage everywhere. I had to rely on wifi and feel that this was a waste of 2 weeks of paying holafly for an esim.
***update*** After submitting this review I was contacted by an Holafly rep. He offered to refund the entire cost of my 25 day esim which I thought was fair and I appreciated. I probably should have tried to contact them while in Costa Rica to trouble shoot, but regardless, I appreciated their response to my review. I still don‘t know why it didn‘t work in CR, but I will use Holafly again for travels to other countries.

Holafly Esim in Costa Rica
I purchased the esim based on the advertised statement,"the best esim for Costa Rica".
While the esim worked very well in some regions of the country(Samara, Playa Del Coco), it did not work at all in La Fortuna. This meant I needed to use my SIM which required I pay roaming and data while i this region.
I purchased this so I could stay in touch with my office, so it was necessary.
Again, once I left this area, the eSim worked very well. I guess if I was aware of this shortfall before I travelled, I may have been more satisfied.
Since I originally posted this review, Holafly contacted me and we discussed the issue with the region in Costa Rica. They offered me appropriate compensation for the time that I was without coverage.
I will give them credit for having very good customer service.

Went to Costa Rica and tried an eSIM
Went to Costa Rica and tried an eSIM, it worked at the airport but no where else in the country. At most got 3G on some parts of the highway. Drove all over the country. Would not suggest Holafly if traveling to Costa Rica. Reached out to their support team and they said nothing they can do, no credit or refund.

Waste of money
We travelled to Costa Rica for 3 weeks. My husband and I paid £57 each for an eSIM as we needed reliable internet whilst travelling. My husband’s SIM would not install and the support was poor. He effectively paid £57for nothing. He purchased a local SIM that he paid £18 for, which gave him reliable data with excellent coverage. My Holafly sim installed ok, however for large portions of the trip I did not have coverage. It was a waste of money. I would not recommend. If going to Costa Rica again I would buy a Kolbi sim once there.

My spouse and I travelled to Costa Rica…
My spouse and I travelled to Costa Rica for five days. We purchased this eSIM to supplement the wifi that we would be connecting to in our hotel resort. Overall, it worked well even though occasionally the network disconnected. Also, in our location we were only getting LTE & 3G service even though our devices were 5G compatible.
Holafly in Costa Rica
In general, the service was good.
A few times during my trip (12 days) I would lose service, and the only way to recover it was by rebooting my phone. Other than that, no issues at all.
eSIM not working in Santa Teresa, Costa Rica.
During visit to Santa Teresa, Costa Rica, feb 1st - feb 9th -26 ; I had barely any internet coverage with HolaFly eSIM. In San José, I had a good internet connection but basically no working internet in the Santa Teresa area. No difference after restarting roaming and de/reactivating the SIM.

Excellent customer support
We actually did not have a good experience with the eSim for Costa Rica, but after our trip, Holafly's customer support was quick to respond and compensate in the way that was best for us. We really appreciated it.
Using Holafly on my trip to Costa Rica…
Using Holafly on my trip to Costa Rica was easy, inexpensive and convenient.
I would recommend Holafly to anyone!
I have used HolaFly in different trips…
I have used HolaFly in different trips to Europe and Costa Rica and it was flawless. Connection was reliable as if I was back home. I have recommended my friends abs family to use it to keep connected. The price is fair.
Barely worked in Costa Rica
I've been a client for years. I used Holafly in Japan, South Korea, Hong Kong, Panama, and it always worked fine, but this last time, in Jaco, Costa Rica, it was extremely aggravating, as our data plan barely worked and we couldn't get a stable connection at all. I think Holafly shouldn't sell eSIMs for locations where they can't provide good service because it was a truly waste of money. I'll reluctantly start looking into other providers for my next trips.

Fantastic eSim Company.
Over the last 6 months I've been using HolaFly as my go to eSim for travel. I normally do a short 10 day trip every month and one 30 day plus trip per year and so far HolaFly has been a perfect fit for my travel needs. The coverage in South & Central America is really good. Nicaragua, Chile, Argentina, Costa Rica, Panama all had LTE or higher where ever available. 2026 is shaping up into another strong travel year and I know HolaFly will be there for me.
It’s a great app once you learn how to use it
It’s a great app once you learn how to use it. I will be using on trips moving forward! Had pretty decent coverage in Costa Rica!
