Costa Rica: Mostly just 3G with no incoming data, so you're lost without communication whenever you most need it. Complete waste of money, my 5 gigabyte Airalo plan has constant connection, is cheaper and saved our life many times while my fiancé stuck with a dead Holafly plan. Either they artificially slow down the connection or the provider is really, really bad. Unreliable.

I heard about this Service. Chose a plan and paid. I was going to Costa Rica. Their website stated that my phone was compatible (Google pixel). I made the purchase and had great difficulties Activating the Service. Just when I thought it was installed correctly, I tried for Internet Service and it did not work at all, the entire time that I was there. Major inconvenience. I sent Hola Fly messages on Whatsapp... I sent screenshots and everything of the no service messages ect. They kept saying someone would contact me shortly. Never happened, where is my refund, money wasted and you can't speak to a real person for a resolution.. Waste of my money.

I applied for a refund, was told that in 3 working days I would be contacted with the confirmation. More then a month passed and I wasn’t contacted.
I contacted them again and they replied super fast and they did the refund with no problems.
In November I’ll go to Costa Rica and I’ll definitely use their service l.
Why writing a procedure that doesn’t give you a step by step procedure. Last month I was in Costa Rica. My wife had to activate her cell ($20 CAD a day) to activate the eSIM that she had purchased $70 for 10 days. She needed to get assistance for something that could have been solved with basic step-by-step instructions. Today I’m in Madrid and same shenanigans.. I’m tired and need to text for basic instructions. I’m pissed.

I'd never heard of Holafly before, but I was so impressed using them for my trip to Costa Rica (from the UK) that I'll use them every time I go abroad. The pricing is very competitive, especially when compared with my usual provider, and I was happy with the speeds and coverage. It was quick and easy to set up as well, with lots of information provided in the welcome email.

Crap, doesnt work stay away.
Of 10 daya in Costa Rica, it worked for 2. They chabged the esim 3 times, just one big mess.
Luckily i purchased a local sim for the 2nd phone (Claro) and ut saved us.
Travelling with kids we needed internet access to get around. If we relied on Holafly we would have been in big problems.
Avoid like the plague.

Why would I need this? All the places I'm staying have WiFi.
Well, let me tell you ... There are hours long drives between tourist locations. You do not want to be confined to the Hotel in order to get messages or check maps. And just because a hotel advertises WiFi, that doesn't mean it will be working and/or not have drop-outs. I experienced all the above during 2 weeks in Costa Rica.
Cost ... One friend, with Verizon, opted for a $150 plan - good for a month though it was only needed for 2 weeks (no 2-week option). The other friend opted for the Verizion $10/day plan. There was no charge if she used WiFi, but if she sent or received only one message and the WiFi faltered, or wasn't available when it came in, the Cell data plan would be used and that was $10 (though it was good for the rest of the day - ending at midnight). One non-WiFi message a day for 5 days would cost more than 2 weeks of Holofly.
The Holofly plan covering the same two weeks cost me about $45 (USD). Well worth it. I would absolutely use Holofly again the next time I travel out of the country.
Important Tip: Get all your messaging software working before you leave. Download WhatsApp - the hotels prefer to use that to communicate with you. Use it to send messages to your friends so you learn how it works. Consider creating a Group if you have several companion along. Have everyone send everyone a message - before you leave home - so you know it all works ahead of time.
When you reach your travel destination, you just have to activate the Holofly eSim. You can probably set it up so it's just a one-button enable.
Know how to get back to your usual Phone Plan when you return home. I deleted the eSim, but before a lingering notification would clear I had to answer "Yes" to copying over any contacts made with the eSim, even though I hadn't added any new contacts.
I didn't wait to read Holofly's "switch back" instructions. Following them may have eliminated that lingering notification.
Remember - Always use a VPN, especially if the transaction has anything to do with finance or personal information you don't want the world to know.
I was not able to use the SIM card in Costa Rica because I had a new phone and T-mobile will not unlock as that is needed to use an alternative eSIM. Holafly customer service was great every time I reached out and they also processed my refund quickly.

I used Holafly for 15 days while travelling around Costa Rica. This was my first time using an esim and I will definitely be doing it again in the future! The installation was very easy and when I had questions the customer service was extremely helpful and quick to reply. My coverage across the country was perfect and very fast, highly recommend using Holafly for your travels!

Alejandro assisted my on the purchase of e-sims for Costa Rica by chat. It was very helpful to make an easy and successful buy for all our family members in one purchase.
They eSim was super easy to install and activate and it worked like a charm during my whole trip to Costa Rica. Highly recommend!

Alejo was a very prompt, knowledgable, and helpful customer service agent guiding me to the right Costa Rica eSIMs
It’s been 3 days since I joined Holafly in Costa Rica and I have not yet had any service. I understand that some areas can be quite remote, but a lot of other networks seem to have perfect connection, apart from the ones I have with Holafly which simply don’t have service. I’ve tried contacting support but the issue has not been fixed, likely because it can’t be fixed as the coverage around Costa Rica is actually very limited and, based on coverage maps supplied by Holafly, we will only have service close to big cities or main roads. This is incredibly frustrating because we are relying on Holafly for our roadtrip around Costa Rica and now we can’t be confident that we will be able to access our online maps.
Also, the translations on the website are wrong. In Portuguese it said tethering/hotspot was available, but in English it says it is not. So we bought it thinking we’d be able to share with our family members but that is not the case.
(update from 28 Nov)
Holafly got in touch and were able to refund me the full amount. The translation has also been corrected on their website.
Despite still having to deal with the poor connection during my trip, the costumer service was quite helpful and so I've decided to update my review from 1 to 3 stars.

Sofia was very helpful with a South American plan. I've used Holafly for Spain, and knew I could count on them for an affordable, high quality plan in Colombia, Panama, and Costa Rica. While easy to install, I remember a couple of quirks, but they are always available to sort things out. Trip is next month, but happy to get this done now.

Ok, I’m gonna be honest I read the reviews before and I was like oh this is amazing you don’t have to order a sim or to go to a store but then I tried it for my trip in CALIFORNIA and during the first week and a half when I was at Los Angeles the data level was really low ( it was hard to connect to a basic websit, to do a Google search or to charge a maps ) but what I mean by hard Is that I was in the middle of Pasadena and nothing but really nothing was charging
So I ended up write to the customer client service in order to be refund
They was able to cancel the data and the esims after something like 15 e-mail where they strategy is to try to avoid the problem, and to sending message from a different person ( I have talked to james Daniela césar, Yussuf, Elizabeth ) in a dozen of e-mail for a simple problem that would have been solved in 2 e-mail normally
Plus of that it’s been 3 week since I finally received the email where they say another email was going to come with all the details of the refund ( and the money of the refund following )
But nothing has come neither the email neither the money and after e-mail of remind that I send they say another email would come but nothing come in the deadline that they give
I think that a reallly really bad product with really really bad ( I can not write inappropriate world apparently) customer service who doesn’t refund the people when they got the retractation right still available is really a company to run away from
But I let you think what you want from this ( if you search another solution, I truly recommend to do your sims card in physics in a store, this solution has worked like a charm in the us and in the Costa Rica where iam now the price are the same the quality is extraordinary you got a phone number with that and of what I’ve seen the two country where I have done it you paid and it’s not a subscription you just need to recharge once a month online or in a physical store + ( in the us you got unlimited call and message with the data with the prepaid card of Verizon )
That’s all cheering to you if you’re a customer and in awaiting of my money if you are from holafly

A recent trip from Costa Rica to Jacksonville, FL, USA and bought the Holafly.
Easy to buy, easy to install and it worked as good as it could be. No problem at all.
I have bought this for myself for work/travel and for my Family members. Will keep byuing this.

Would have been 5 stars only my signal dropped a few times... But we were up in Costa mujeres so the signal may be weak up there with all networks
The eSim was easy to install on my iPhone and worked fine during my Costa Rica trip.
