We got ripped off by Europcar at Prague Airport trying to assert that pre-existing minor dings were new damage. €453 charges to my card for minor dings that were there when we hired the car. We even have it all on video.

The guy asked if we took full insurance - and once we said no, the guy then did a 20 minute inspection to try and find something to charge us with.

Unethical and dishonest - that’s the last time I hire from Europcar.

I had a very disappointing experience with Europcar. I rented a car without insurance, and when I returned it, they charged me 255 euros for a very small scratch. The scratch was so minor it could have already been there before I rented the car, but they still insisted I pay. The process felt unfair and left me with the impression that they take advantage of customers who don’t purchase extra insurance.
I strongly advise anyone considering Europcar to be extremely careful. Inspect the car thoroughly before driving away, take detailed photos, and don’t assume they will be reasonable about minor issues. I would not recommend renting from them based on this experience.
