SCAM

DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS COMPANY — Avoid Europcar in Luxembourg, France, Germany, Portugal, or anywhere else.

I had a disgraceful experience with the Europcar counter at Luxembourg Airport. I arrived to pick up my pre-booked rental car, but the agent refused to honor the booking because I presented a Revolut credit card.

Instead of offering a fair or sensible resolution, the agent told me I could use a local Luxembourgish card—and when I attempted to sort it out, I was told my original reservation had to be canceled and rebooked on the spot. The new price quoted was an outrageously inflated "walk-up" premium designed to take advantage of stranded travelers.

When I refused to pay their predatory last-minute rate, they kept €115 of my money as a cancellation fee for a vehicle they refused to release.

This felt like nothing short of an intentional trap: refuse a valid booking on a technicality, attempt to force an expensive walk-up upgrade, and pocket a heavy penalty fee if the customer refuses to be gouged. With thousands of similar negative reviews online reporting the same tactics, this seems to be standard procedure for them across Europe.

Save yourself the money, time, and extreme stress—book with any other rental provide or any local P2P car rental service. I will never use Europcar again anywhere in the world.
