It used to be one of fave app… But I cancelled and hope they won’t keep charging me like others have experienced. I paid my subscription for this month but I can’t access any book. It’s not even that they’re locking stuff because I’ve already listened to too much stuff, I’ve had access to 0 book. The app keeps telling me I need to subscribe (which I am) and when I click on said « subscribe » button it tells me I am already subscribed… I’ve tried everything (updated it, logged out, uninstalled,..) but nothing changes. Of course I’ve filled a report but they don’t bother answering

Say they have books in stock to download. The second you sign up they change your unavailable. Don’t waste your time. Use audible.

Reply from Everand
New subscriptions are poor; all the books you want to read are locked. No longer worth the money.

Fell in for the hype of all the good books without having to wait and getting 3 books a month. The ONLY reason this review gets a second star is for the not waiting for some titles I want aspect. 1. Any and all well known titles you have to use an unlock for. 2. Those 3 credits books each month that pay for are not really yours. See what they don’t tell you is that if you don’t use them all every month, you lose them. Yup you could pay they for months and never get anything from it. 3. The app crashes ALL the time. I constantly have to log out and back in because it crashes when you pause the book and will not play again until you do. Oh and bonus, customers service is not fun to deal with either.

5+ years I have been a subscriber to Scrubs/Everand and almost never had a complaint... Til I got persuaded to give up my legacy plan and go to the new model- now at least 75% of what I look into wanting to read is LOCKED. And even with 3 a month - that goes way quick. So what if they expand their catalog if you can only get 1 a month or 3 at most? I hardly EVER encountered limited access or unavailable messages in 5 years! All I feel like is someone pulled a dirty move, tried to give it good lip service abt access, transparency etc and put their hand straight into my wallet. Be ahead the library is free and works better in most cases, comparatively.
Au revoir.

I subscribed to Everand for a bit and then cancelled. When I wanted to start using it again I tried to reactivate my account but it would not open . I contacted them and eventually it was working. I had put in a new payment source when I reactivated it. I have now realized they have been double billing me. One on my Visa and one on my new paymwnt source. I have contacted them, given screen shots of my statements, given banks tracing number they wanted and still they ask for statement pictures which I have now given multiple times. It appears they are just trying to not credit me the money they double billed. I didn’t even ask for the money back, just a credit.
THEY ARE FRAUDULENT! I had to do a stop payment on it all to stop them from continuing to bill the other account.
UPDATE - May 20/25
I did reach out after this post as they suggested and referred to both shots of the bank account statement and the bank charge back number used and then my Z Visa Statement picture of charge and they still want more info which there is none.
They have stopped replying to my requests to contact me and explain in detail what more they need. No replies now. I WOULD NOT USE THIS APP/COMPANY. I’m out over $100.

I've been with scribd, Now everand, for at least 5 years. I sung their praises to anyone who'd listen. But, they've become real slick in how they structure things now.
I enjoy series, cuz I hate saying goodbye to characters. The most recent game is to have the first book in a series unlimited, and all the rest premium. And I'm suspicious that my reading patterns affect what becomes locked for me.
So, I've gone from scribd superfan to devastated everand victim. I get it, capitalism and such. I figure they'll learn how easy we all find libby, or kindle unlimited, or audible. There are other options as well.
I've gotten hooked on a series that I've now paid for on kindle.
So I'm done. My sub ends on the 27th, and I will not be renewing. 🤷♀️
Save yourself the frustration and disappointment and find another service. If you find all of these negative reviews hard to believe, last I knew, they gave 30 days free. Try it out. Browse the titles you like, and see how much it will cost in reality

Very very very dissapointed with Everand. I used to be a subscriber with Scribd, I am an audio listener rather than a reader and Scribd was amazing. Then a few years ago they decided to become Everand, which restricted access to audiobooks and only gave a limited amount available each month.
Now they have decided to change things again. They have upped their subscription costs and limited their books to either one or three per month depending on how much you want your monthly subscription to be. Initially I thought this might be OK, as they had a good list of books available, until I realised that the majority of their books are now locked!!
The recent change means that for a higher fee I only get 3 audiobooks. That is worse to when they changed from Scribd to Everand. They have completely limited the access to their catalogue so instead of paying for the limited books they offer I have decided to spend the subscription money I paid for Everand, on Audible, who not only have a wider range of audiobooks, but I also get to keep everything I pay for. Such a shame they decided to go down this route, they have yet again lost a very loyal fan base and their customer service is rubbish snd full of excuses. 👎

I have been a paying customer since 2022, and with the new "premium" title update, Everand (formerly Scribd) has completely ruined the app.
They advertise "unlimited access" to their non-premium audiobook catalog. However, after listening to only 1–2 books in a genre (paranormal romance), I was locked out of additional titles until the next billing cycle — despite none of the books being labeled as premium.
These limits are not clearly disclosed before purchase. When I contacted customer service, they refused to answer basic questions about the restrictions, offered no real help, and simply gave me a refund. Customer support is completely useless for resolving real issues.
I used to love this app, but the current restrictions make it not worth paying for. Their marketing is extremely misleading.
⚠️ If you’re considering Everand for "unlimited" audiobooks, be warned: major hidden limits apply based on your reading habits — and they don’t tell you until after you’re locked in.
If you’re reading this and have had the same issue, please report them to the BBB and FTC. I don't want to destroy them — I just want them to fix what used to be a great service.
Update: After pushing back, they initially tried to take back the refund offer. They admitted titles are regularly rotated out — confirming my original complaint. They dodged every direct question I asked, including whether the new plan would improve access to my preferred genre. Eventually, they offered a refund again, but I’m still not satisfied. Evasive and frustrating experience overall. Left a bad taste.

Everand has changed their terms from unlimited reading to one book a month without informing their subscribers of the new terms. I had to discover the new terms myself.
Had I been notified when the new changes took effect, I would have cancelled my subscription right then and there as those were not the terms I agreed to when signing up. However, by not informing me of the changes, Everand did not make this possible. I have therefore (in addition to cancelling) requested a refund from the time which the changes took effect, but Everand are refusing this, of course, as they have very clearly gone from product and customer service focused to being greedy and trying to get as much money from their customers as possible, even if it means ignoring their own terms and conditions (which state that subscribers must be informed if the terms of the subscription changes).
So, do not sign up for Everand unless you don't care about the agreement being changed without your knowledge.

Everand hid all good titles from me, or stated they would only become available after the next month’s bill. I am very disappointed in their service.

Re-branded Copyright Thieves Scribd with another rotten business model that rewards those who illegally upload copyright material by sharing proceeds with them sourced from duped subscribers. If subscribers think that this is legitimate then they probably need a prison term themselves. Disgusting exploitation by a company who doesn't give a damn about content creators beyond how much they can rip them off.
Check out their copy and paste reply absolving themselves of all responsibility. Hasn't stopped them ripping off 40 of my books.

Been a member for years and years. Changed to the annual plan as soon as it became available. It seems like good value to me. I didn't realise there'd been a change to their charging method. I find this service so useful for niche non-fiction, textbooks, finding the book referred to in a podcast etc. It's not great for browsing for a novel to read. I use the Bookbub service to get a selection of available reads, which are often available on Everand. I don't really like audiobooks much.
They robbed everyone who has been a loyal customer for years and now charging for every single thing. Awful.

I don't appreciate paying for 3 audiobooks (or even one audiobook) and then only having 30 days to listen to it unless I continue to pay for a monthly subscription. Audible is more straightforward- you BUY the audiobook and even if you then cancel your membership you can continue to listen to your audiobook indefinitely through their app.

The reader app is not good at all. Charts and formulas disappear in "Light" mode. Chapter number / title is not displayed etc. Huge amount of low quality titles makes it difficult to find good ones - and these have become fewer over the years. And if you are lucky enough to find a good one, then it is likely only available in audio.

I too will be cancelling my subscription having been a loyal customer for many years and buying subscriptions as presents for friends and family.
I used the site primarily for non-fiction and learned a lot, but am not interested in your “packages” and will seek an alternative site.

Your business model change has ruined this app. It's utterly ridiculous. I used to rave about your service to any and all readers who'd listen and now l'd rather use audible (which I think is a rip off too) than everand because at least there I get to keep the books after l use a credit on them. With Everand if I unlock a title then cancel my subscription my access to the book is revoked... even though l used a paid unlock to read it. I would love to see your data sheets because there is no way you haven't lost customers over this. Such a sad business- I really loved scribd even though I dealt with the bugs and glitches for years. This? This I cannot deal with.
I saw your response to someone else’s review saying you didn’t make the change lightly, that there were hidden limits in the system such as randomly being unable to access a title and whatnot. And yes that was annoying but it was really no big deal. Saying y'all chose to move to this new model because users shared frustration over that and other minor things is such a cop out. Y’all did this for money. And while all businesses ultimately want to make money most don’t do it as the cost of their loyal customer base since without us you wouldn’t have a business. And I dare say the complaints now are a thousand times worse than they ever were. So bravo- I hope y’all are happy.
I think it goes without saying I’ve cancelled my subscription after many years as a loyal customer and I hope many others do as well since you’ve yanked the metaphorical rug right out from under us.

Well, I would have given 4 or 5 stars until recently. Over 600 saved audiobooks and I can't listen to them. It has become the biggest joke. I'm sorry but I can listen to my 3 monthly unlocks in a day or 2. Now for the other 29 days of the month, it's useless. Also, enough with the generic responses to our concerns. If looking for more money, raise the subscription cost a bit and go back to unlimited listening. Time to cancel. Angry I've wasted money on this app the past few years.

Reply from Everand
The fact that you can't keep access after stopping the free trial is a complete farce and borderline predatory. The user interface is a joke, and I wish I lived in a universe where this application was never thought of, let alone created.
