Great experience early in your career, but poor management and limited growth

I worked at Evolve BG for almost two years and genuinely enjoyed working with my colleagues — the people I worked alongside were supportive, knowledgeable, and made the job enjoyable. Evolve is a fast-growing company where you can pick up a lot of experience early in your career, especially in technical roles.

Unfortunately, my positive experience stopped at the team level. When I handed in my notice, no one from management approached me to ask why I was leaving or whether there was anything that could be done to keep me. After nearly two years of commitment and hard work, this complete lack of interest made me feel incredibly undervalued — as though my time and effort there meant very little. It was disappointing to leave feeling like just another number rather than a valued employee who had contributed to the company’s growth.

Staff retention across the business is poor, and it’s easy to see why. There’s limited opportunity for promotion, and a strong sense of favouritism. I applied for and earned two promotions through the proper channels, yet my senior received two separate promotions that were never advertised to the wider business. This lack of transparency and fairness in career development is demoralising.

Working in the NOC also came with a high level of micromanagement, which made it difficult to feel trusted or empowered to do the job effectively.

In summary, Evolve BG offers solid early-career experience, but the company has a long way to go in terms of valuing its people. If management took the time to genuinely support and retain their staff — rather than treating them as replaceable — it could be a much better place to build a career

Thank you so much for taking the time to share your experience. We’re genuinely pleased to hear that your time with us was a positive one; it’s always our aim to create environments where people feel valued, supported, and able to grow.

I also want to clarify something that came up: when we became aware that you were considering a new opportunity, both your manager and their manager reached out to you to have open conversations. Their intention was not to discourage your growth, but given you were returning to a completely different sector from the MSP they both had the impression that it was a vocational preference.

We know that sometimes people move on (and that’s natural), and we respect those decisions. As you have now raised this, we wanted to make sure you felt heard and that you had all the information to make the right choice for you.

Thank you again for your kind words and for giving us the opportunity to clarify. Wishing you all the best in your next chapter.
