I purchased items from the UK and they came in 2 packages with the wrong value and thus, the wrong duty and taxes attached. EzClear fixed the problem (that they did not create) very quickly and without any additional aggravation to me. Maricel was wonderful to deal with. I hope EzClear understands what a valuable employee they have.

Do NOT use these guys.

When I saw this company pop up in my email after ordering a pair of pants online, their name alone seemed shady. After finding out it was indeed an actual company and not a scam, I proceeded to read the reviews. Sure enough, the rate EZ Clear would have charged me to clear my package ended up being more than twice what customs did: I went directly to CBSA and they charged me 27 dollars, while EZ Clear wanted to charge me 70. Scummy. The only thing I'll say to their credit is that when I asked them to let me pay my own brokerage fees they responded promptly and without hassle. Still, I wonder how much they make off of people who don't know any better.

EzClear helped me clear my packages on time!

I read too many bad reviews and thought it's time to provide my honest feedback. I had ordered some stuff from UK which was shipped in 4 packages. Before I proceed, for people like me who do not know, EzClear collects the duties and taxes and submits to CBSA. They do charge their processing/admin fee in order to do this work (which naturally is based on their business work processes). Also for someone who wants to avoid these charges can always visit CBSA in person to get their shipments cleared out.
Anyway, so when I received the payment notice from EzClear, I left them a voice message (on weekend) and they texted back saying someone will be in contact on Monday. On Monday throughout till Thursday, Maricel was in contact, helping me clear out the packages. It turned out the supplier had entered regular retail prices instead of the sale prices which were causing duties and taxes to be too high. She provided all the documents I needed to get self-clearance from CBSA (which went by smoothly as well). What I appreciate is the prompt email responses and also a courtesy note to waive off the other admin charges since my packages were split by the supplier. I even spoke to her on the phone to understand the issue in detail. In terms of customer service, great job Maricel!! I don't think these people put your packages under 'hostage'! They are the liaison between customer (us), CBSA and shipping companies. So thank you for helping me resolve this in a timely manner.

I literally made an account on TrustPilot just to review this shady service...

I ordered a package from the Michael Jackson Europe store. Once it arrived in Canada I received an unexpected email from a company I had never heard of: EZClear. The email enthusiastically told me I could easily pay my duties and customs through them, that they had calculated the duties for me, and all I would need to do is fork over 24 dollars in "administration" fees. Immediately I was extremely suspicious seeing that I had ordered many international packages and every time I just went to the post office to pay the duties directly, no "admin fee" necessary. It was only through previous reviews on trustpilot that I learned I (obviously) did not have to pay them a dime, rather I could self-clear the package myself. EZClear DID NOT make this option available to me (shady!). I informed them of my intention to self-clear and their support person Maricel actually did give me the papers to do so (to my surprise). I drove the my local CBSA office to self-clear my package. Surprise 1: The CBSA officer was legitimately confused at the bogus admin fee EZClear demanded from me, and told me he hadn't seen anything like it. Surprise 2: EZCLEAR CALCULATED MY DUTIES WRONG!! Instead of paying them 58 dollars, I directly paid the CBSA 30 dollars, well worth not paying this company at all. The bogusness, however, did not end there. I emailed Maricel my CBSA receipt, and he said he would then clear my package for delivery. One week goes by. My package was nowhere to be seen and I was still receiving emails reminding me to pay them the duties and their made-up fees. I emailed them asking what was going on. Maricel apologized for the "mix up" and finally gave me a Canada post tracking number and confirmation of delivery. For a whole week my package was just sitting in their building, even after I paid all of the relevant fees. I honestly would not put it past them to have held on to my package out of spite for not paying them. Either that or they just forgot to deliver it. Either way, extremely poor service and an utterly useless company all around, they delayed my package a full 2 weeks and for no reason whatsoever. I will be much more careful before I buy things online now after dealing with something like this! Hopefully Maricel gets another job...

Hi Alex, sorry to hear there was some confusion regarding your order. Hopefully this post will make who we are and what we do more clear for you.

Firstly, we commend you for being thorough with your research and keeping your wits about you in the online shopping world. There are many scams and nefarious practices putting shoppers at risk, and for this reason, we are very understanding when users are initially unsure of using our services. We are a very new company, so it is unsurprising that you have yet to hear of us. We hope to gain more publicity throughout the upcoming year.

Firstly, EzClear does not calculate the sum of your duties and taxes. These are calculated by a customs broker who works independently, just as they would have been in the scenario you mentioned of picking up your parcel from the post office and paying in person. The numbers they come to are based on the value of the items displayed on the shipping manifest provided by your retailer at the time they are received into customs. If there was an issue with your calculation, it is because an incorrect price was displayed to customs by the retailer. In your case, the amount presented was actually less than you paid, stated as $33 when in reality you had paid $234. This is a mistake, however, this also means that you did, in fact, pay more duties and taxes at the CBSA office.

You are incorrect about our administrative fee, our fee is $14.50, and note that the post office will also charge you a similar service fee for pick-up. The $24.14 you are referring to is the total of our fee, your duties and taxes, and disbursement fee. This is an inclusive value. Your self-clear cost was, in the end, $30.42 from the receipt that you sent us. At no point in this process were you quoted $58.00. On this note, we will point out that we have never denied anyone the information they need to self-clear and are very prompt in providing users with the relevant information. This process is covered in our FAQ. Most users do not choose to self-clear because it is time-consuming, and can mean delays in delivery.

We received all the necessary self-clear documentation from you on Friday, September 7th. Unfortunately, your parcel was missed for pick-up that evening, and not mailed out until the following Monday morning. We apologize for this, as it was our error.

As for our emails following the self-clear completion, our emailing protocol is automated, and the error has since been resolved. We operate on a large scale with many international retailers, and we certainly have no desire to hold your parcel from you out of spite. All of our customer service team is held to a very high standard, and as you experienced first hand, are very dedicated to helping you get your parcels whichever way works best for you.

We are very sorry that you experienced delays with your parcel. Hopefully, this sketches out a better picture of the services that we offer shoppers. We aim to keep import charge transactions online so that your parcels can keep moving and get to you sooner.

I dealt with Maricel Mendoza over the span of a few days, and was very impressed with how helpful he was. He went above and beyond to ensure I was satisfied with my experience, and to ensure that I was able to track my parcel when it switched to Canada Post. I would highly recommend dealing with him and EzClear.

Previously I wrote a review on here…

Previously I wrote a review on here communicating my dissatisfaction with this company, believing it to be a scam and them holding my parcel hostage until I paid exorbitant fees (import fees were 80% of what my original product cost-which was clothing of value $32 CAD). I was extremely peeved to say the least.

After talking with customer service personnel, they explained the breakdown of fees and agreed the brokerage fees (which is the bulk of what I owed) were ridiculous for my priced items.

It is still quite annoying to deal with, however the customer service was excellent and should anyone have any concerns they will be able to help you out and explain things. You also have the option to send the items back or self declare, if a CBSA is nearby. It is not solely their fault for these fees (which they will explain) either, and I believe the parent company from which you order should also bear some of the grief since they obviously are not doing their part on informing their consumers adequately.

You make a good point! Many eRetailers are not clear about additional fees being due once the goods arrive in Canada. It is SUPER important to read the fine print when shopping online. Understanding INTERNATIONAL SHIPPING and RETURN options are crucial for making good online shopping decisions.

I purchased items from the UK- I have a full understanding that when I ordered I would be subject to pay both duties and taxes, no different than if I was to cross an international border and cross over into Canada. I work full time, the duties and taxes were calculated properly, I did not get any charges from the broker, and there was a small administrative fee from Ezclear. Well worth every penny not having to drive with the price of gas to the nearest Customs office.
Very happy with the service, very happy with how efficient the process went and very happy with my purchase.

Hi Jordan, we appreciate the feedback, however, we have no control over the charges that the CBSA implements for your product. If you are referring to our brokerage charges, we have done our best to remain at a lower price than any of our competitors. Let us know if we can be of any further assistance.

Charge waaaay too much

EZ Clear like to charge me pretty much the same amount as my package's worth... I ordered a pair of boots for $40, and they tried to charge me $30 on top of that?? No thank you.
Last time they did this I self cleared and the post office didn't charge me ANYTHING.

Clear it yourself ladies and gentlemen...

Exception customer service

Exceptional customer service. Maricel is truly one of a kind. Ive interacted with her on numerous occasions and she always goes above and beyond in explaining where or what is going on with your package. If there are any delays or issues, it is usually because of customs delays and other factors that don't have anything to do with Ezclear. Plus, you can pay off your duties with PayPal which is always a plus!

Great customer service

Today I called EzzClear pertaining to two orders I had made. I called but got no answer, within a short while I received a phone call from a customer rep named Maricel. She explained in full detail what was going with my packages and what I needed to do to have the items cleared. She was great! I really appreciated how she took her time to explain everything for me!

DONT TRY AND SELF CLEAR, PAY THROUGH EZCLEAR

After reading the reviews online, I was actually quite hesitant to proceed with paying charges and decided to try self-clearing. I went to CBSA and had the worst experience ever, they didn’t read the documents properly, they didn’t let me pay my taxes, I had to wait a really long time to get it and ended up not being able to pay my duties. I called Ezclear and they were actually really helpful and explained the process and proceeded to pay with them. Self-clearing is a long and tedious process and wastes so much time and effor and i’m sure for everyone it’s much easier to pay through and worth every penny of the admin charges because they seriously save you a lot of time and effort.

DO NOT USE Ez Clear to pay Import charges - self clear with CBSA

First experience with Ez Clear. My product cost was $156.91 and my import charges were $51.80. After reading other reviews on Ez Clear, I decided to self clear my parcel. Took 15 days to get the necessary paperwork from Ez Clear. When I took the paperwork to my nearest Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA), I only had to pay the 5% GST which ended up being $7.85. I questioned why the huge difference and was told by Ez Clear "The difference is you are not paying for the bonded services of FB Canada Express, brokerage fee of William Rutherford. The disbursement fee of using the paypal online service." Seems like a pretty expensive service FB Canada Express is offering. I would recommend to others to self clear if you have a CBSA close by.

Hi Debra, your order consisted of supplements which is subject to CFIA (Canadian Food Inspection Agency) requirements. As a result, the clearance process for this type of import is different than regular ecommerce. As a business we are obligated to submit a live entry for all indigestible products, this process can take additional time. Supplements when ordered online are regulated differently than say clothing or bike parts. If we opt not to follow the regulations for indigestible products we subject to Administrative Monetary Penalty System AMPS https://www.cbsa-asfc.gc.ca/trade-commerce/amps/ with hefty fines. In reviewing your paperwork I see that the officer at the payment counter reclassified your goods as groceries instead of supplements. We will be reviewing this with CBSA to better understand if supplements have recently been reclassified as groceries or if the officer misappropriated the classification We will be posting the feedback from CBSA here once we have completed our investigation with them. Please check back for updates.
