Foil found in dog food

Foil found in dog food! My daughter started purchasing this food when produced in Italy because she wanted a superior food for her beloved dogs. This product is no longer that! How do you justify pieces of foil in the dog food?

Find a different brand

I started out feeding my cat the farmina urinary tract formula. It is a little pricey but my cat liked it and I felt like it was worth it. My cat continued to get UTIs anytime I stopped giving her the supplements for them. I spoke with someone from farmina about nutrition and they convinced me to go with their prescription food. The first ingredient is corn. Every time my cat ate it she threw up because she cannot digest corn because she's never had it. When I tried to return it which they told me it is returnable it was past their 30-day guarantee. That was not disclosed to me when I bought the food. It did not help my cat if anything. It made her health worse. Since I put her on the prescription. I've had to bring her to the vet twice and have spent over $1,000 on vet bills. When I called and said that I was unaware that I only had 30 days because it was not told to me. They said it's on our website. I, like most people probably don't have the time to read every website and if you're speaking to somebody to purchase the food that is something they should tell you which did not occur. They do not want to give me a refund even though their food did more harm than good and I even have to pay to get my carpets cleaned because my cat vomited up their food anytime she ate it. I know about cat nutrition. I have worked at pet specialty stores and have done plenty of research into pet diets. If I would have seen the ingredients in their prescription food instead of just trusting the company I never would have purchased them. I am extremely let down and aggravated about this whole situation that has caused nothing but strife and made my cat feel worse. I highly suggest you choose a different brand and a company that is more understanding. I have fed my cats every high quality brand food you can think of and I have never had an issue returning a food that my cat would not eat. This entire situation is mind-blowing. I am disabled and I make very little money and I make sure my cat eats healthy before I focus on myself. I used to be a fan of this company and now I want to avoid it like the plague. I suggest you read their entire website or just find a different brand.

I have been a long-time Farmina…

I have been a long-time Farmina customer and have been happy with the food itself. My frustration is with the customer service experience.

I contacted support to request a simple correction to an order. After spending hours attempting to reach someone through chat, phone, and email, I still did not receive a clear answer. I was first asked whether I wanted the order changed or canceled, only to later be told that orders cannot be modified after placement.

The biggest issue was communication. At the end of the day, I was still unsure whether my order had actually been canceled or was still shipping. A simple, clear explanation of available options and order status would have saved a great deal of time and frustration.

The food has been excellent, but the support experience did not match the quality of the product.

UPDATE: A backup order placed Saturday night arrived before Farmina could clearly answer a yes-or-no question, leaving me with twice the food I needed and five days of unnecessary stress.
While still arguing about food and missing the entire part of this was a COMMUNICATIONS ISSUE! While repeating a timeline that i provided first and still not taking responsibility of the 1 yes or no question.

Farmina are Liars! New formulation is TRASH!

New formulation is TRASH!! Farmina are liars. While boasting 'no meals' and only 'fresh ingredients' they are getting 1000s of lbs of meals and synthetics to their US manufacturing plant. They have not notified their customers of the new trash ingredients and fillers, and not including those ingredients on the cheap slap on ingredient labels. Just despicable practices.

Farmina Prime Lamb & Blueberry dry cat food

I have been feeding Farmina Prime Lamb & BLueberry to my cats for years. The latest 3.3# bag (purchased at a local store) made my two cats sick. One developed severe diarrhea, vomiting, skin itching, and eventually inappetence. The other developed bad smelling flatulence and also inappetence. Their coats dry and experiencing alopecia. After trying different things to help them with no improvement, I decided to look into the food aspect. I was surprised to find many pet owners have been reporting problems with Farmina dry food - about the Farmina that is specifically "made in USA" apparently with a new formulation, notably using ingredients such as hydrolyzed fish, pork fat, meal, natural flavors, etc - and when I looked at my bag, I see that it is labeled "made in USA", ugh! I immediately stopped feeding the Farmina Lamb & Blueberry and voila, my kitties are improving. I will no longer feed Farmina. It was absolutely terrifying seeing them suffer and not knowing what was wrong. Thank God I figured it out before it was too late for them.

There is something seriously wrong with…

There is something seriously wrong with this brand of kibble! I've been feeding their N&D Prime chicken & Pomegranate cat food to my cats for over a year, but it makes them vomit almost daily. The vomit isn't hairballs, it's kibble and liquid. I'm tired of finding cat vomit on the floors, furniture, window sills, my bed, rugs, the catio, etc. & having to clean it up! It's a waste of money and probably torture for the cats when they're constantly vomiting it up. So last week I quit feeding my cats Farmina & switched to Instinct Ultimate Protein & some Nulo kibble I'm trying to use up. Guess what? I haven't found one single pile of cat vomit since I quit feeding Farmina to my cats!
I bought six 11 lb. bags of kibble from Farmina 11/28/25 & the bags are stamped "Made in Serbia". However, I belong to the Facebook group 'USA-Made Farmina Pet Food is Making Dogs and Cats Sick', and one of the administrators has been tracking shipments to their US facility. According to the Bills of Lading posted in that group, it appears that Farmina has been LYING to customers about the quality of the ingredients as well as some of their countries of origin. There have also been reports of 'Made in Serbia' labels being put over 'Made in the USA' labels. So, I don't know if I got kibble that was made in the USA or in Serbia. Regardless, it seems to me that they have probably been lying to us all along about their high quality ingredients and instead they're using some low quality ingredients, ingredients from China that could contain heavy metals, pesticides not allowed for use in the US, and other toxins. I want a refund for the four unopened 11 lb. bags of kibble plus the 2 lbs. left in an opened bag. I can't in good conscience continue to feed this brand to my cats when it makes them vomit!

STAY AWAY IF YOU WANT YOUR PET TO STAY HEALTHY!!!

This brand was somewhat decent . Unfortunately, as of 2025 it is no longer the same product. They are producing the food now in the USA and have changed the formulas. They are imported minerals from china and their ingredients are subpar now. They are lying to their customers and im sure you will see some nice response to my post saying different. Peoples animals are getting sick now because of this. There is a dedicated Facebook group regarding the nonsense Farmina is carrying on with now. Don't believe me, search it?! What happened to being truthful and producing a quality product? The employees who know this is going on, along with owners, should be ashamed of themselves. I bet they will wake up once it starts to really hit their pocket. Again, Farmina save the "we're sorry" response to me. I don't want to hear it. Your product and reputation are so far gone nothing will bring my dollars back to you. 5 years of feeding your food!

Very bad customer service

Definitely I do not recommend customer service from Farmina Netherlands. This Company do not appreciate new customers. They promise a 50% discount for a new customers for a first purchase. In the end, when you request that, you hear it doesn't apply for you anymore for no reason, just because. So this is fake discount on which they try to get new customers. Also do not recommend consultant Tessa because she lies!

We understand your disappointment regarding the discount and would like to clarify the situation.

You were provided with a one-time 45% coupon discount, valid for your first purchase within a defined period. As this discount was not redeemed within the validity timeframe, it expired automatically.

Because it has expired, the system no longer classifies your account as eligible for new customer promotions, which is why it cannot be reinstated. At the moment, the applicable offer available for your account is the 20% nutrition plan discount.

We understand this may not be the outcome you expected, and we regret any confusion caused regarding the validity conditions. We always aim to ensure our promotions are clearly communicated and consistently applied.

If you have any further questions or would like assistance placing an order, we will be happy to help.

Did not give discount as promised and poor customer service

In February 2026, I was attempting to place my first online order with Farmina (North America office out of New York). They had advertised a HELLO35 discount code for 35% off (up to $25). Due to their website checkout issues when I wanted to add a second bag, the code did not work. I communicated back and forth with their “nutritionists” in an attempt to get the 35% after they offered this. A supervisor approved using a different email and they would then credit my card. I bought two large bags totaling near $188.98 using a different email, as suggested by Farmina reps. I waited for 3 weeks and the credit never happened. After multiple emails and no concrete answers, I called in and Paige, whom I had been working with, finally returned my call. She had said I could place another order and proceeded to give directions to get the credit, saying she would send me an email with all the directions, as it was a specific step process. I didn’t get the email and wrote again saying so. No response. Sent a last message this week, now May 2026, requesting a call from the supervisor. Again, no response. In my experience, the company did not follow through on the credit they promised and the customer service very sub-standard. Would rather go with another dog food company that cares about their customers as much as their brand.

Thank you for your feedback. We understand your frustration.
Following our prior conversation, the HELLO35 promotion was not eligible for the Meal Plan purchase, as Meal Plans are already discounted and excluded from additional promotions.
At the time, our team shared that the HELLO35 code could be used on a separate qualifying order, and that support was available should any checkout issues arise.
We apologize for any confusion during the process and appreciate you sharing your experience.

Poor Delivery Handling and Very Poor Customer Service

I am based in the U.S. Farmina’s website prices looked lower than Chewy, but YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR. Awful customer service!

My order was not delivered properly to the address I provided. Farmina support had entered a PO Box workaround because their online system could not accept my street address, and I was told their system would flag and correct it before shipment. Instead, the order was shipped by UPS to a PO Box, which UPS cannot deliver to.

I contacted support multiple times, but they still could not get anyone to approve a full refund promptly. Very poor customer service and resolution process.

I would not recommend ordering directly from Farmina.com.

Genius app is impossible

Genius app is impossible, cannot load “12+1” codes to receive promotional items and cannot find online assistance. I also had to register an extraordinary amount of intrusive personal information. I live in Italy and want to support an Italian company but the whole procedure seems like a come-on and a bad joke… and after reading another poster, who didn’t even receive the promotional bag of food, I am deleting my registration and will change brands. This food isn’t cheap and I think the money is better spent elsewhere.

I rarely leave reviews

I rarely leave reviews, but this experience with Farmina Pet Foods has been beyond disappointing.
I spent over a year collecting 12 QR codes to finally redeem a “free” bag of dog food. After completing the process, I received a link and placed my order — only for the package to never arrive. The courier marked it as delivered, but nothing was left at my address, no note, and no delivery to neighbours.
Farmina opened an investigation, but after a few weeks, they simply closed it and told me to search my neighbourhood myself or contact DHL. DHL, in turn, made it clear they have a contract with the sender, not me, and that Farmina should be handling this.
So I was left stuck in the middle with no resolution.
What makes this worse is how dismissive the support team has been. It feels like because the item was “free,” they don’t take responsibility or care about resolving the issue. After spending a year engaging with their campaign, this is incredibly frustrating.
The product itself might be good, my dog likes it, but the customer experience is poor enough to make me seriously reconsider continuing with this brand.

They Have Joined The Slithering Cesspool of 'Kibble' Manufacturers in The States

This brand was somewhat acceptable. As of the end of 2025 it is no lnoger the same product. They are adding pork, pork fat, whole wheat and other ingredients that are sickly. The product is now a mixture of toxic meats. Further, pork is a cheap way to add a protein and the reason is they are not protected. There is no pastured pork or very little. If you read the bags of dog food, many, especially 'nature's logic' use it to make claims. They rely on porcine for their greed. To bring life into the world to kill it is evil. We are not vegan, our dogs eat meat. We source it from the most ethical sources we can find, and do it on a paycheck to paycheck budget. We would purchase 'farmina' while traveling or as a back up on the rare occasion and will no longer do so and have started warning others. This is now not only a bad product who has joined the slithering cesspool ranks of the 'kibble' toxic world in the states it is also one that does not care about dogs or cats.

My cats love the Quinoa line

My cats love the Quinoa dry food line.

My only issue is I have been using their website to order for years and it's always a problem with the address or the credit card not taking, and I wind up swirling around trying to conclude the order, then I have to result to calling them and they take the order manually.

Nice customer service, but a huge waste of my time. An order that should have taken 1 or 2 mins online turns into over an hour between swirling around website, then calling in the order.

I don't like leaving negative comments, but I don't see any info online regarding others having this experience - so here it is. Thank you,

FARMINA LYING ABOUT THEIR INGREDIENTS - Even the POSSUM wouldn't Eat It!

UPDATE - This is DAMNING! Farmina claim their "Fruit and veg" come from Europe. However, right NOW they have a shipment of 45,000 lbs of: Pumpkin Powder Chamomile Powder Coconut Powder Curcuma Powder Blueberry Powder Fruit Mix On the way from 𝗫𝗶 𝗔𝗻 𝗥𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗯𝗼𝘄 𝗕𝗶𝗼 𝗧𝗲𝗰𝗵 𝗖𝗼 𝗟𝘁𝗱, 𝗫𝗶'𝗮𝗻, 𝗖𝗛𝗜𝗡𝗔. Most Chinese produce is heavily contaminated with 𝗜𝗟𝗟𝗘𝗚𝗔𝗟 𝗣𝗘𝗦𝗧𝗜𝗖𝗜𝗗𝗘𝗦 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗛𝗘𝗔𝗩𝗬 𝗠𝗘𝗧𝗔𝗟𝗦.
ORIGINAL REPORT made to Farmina
"New bag opened 30 minutes ago.. one of their Favourites... N&D Ocean Kitten Food Cod, Shrimp, Cantaloupe, Pumpkin. I have 21 cats at Shady Grove Farm – all rescues, and normally I am fighting them off as I open a new bag. They even try to CLIMB inside my storage container.. this evening? Nada.. the latest kitten rescue, Bertie, had some and a few nibbles from some of the others then they walked away. I put bowls out rather than fill the tube feeder as there was still some "old" kibble in those. I bought 3 x 11 lb bags.. this smelt like rotten-meat-and-blood-soaked cardboard.. like cheap dog kibble.. it was light-coloured and crumbly. My cats have been eating Italian-made then Serbian Farmina for 10 years.. I checked the package and it has the US-made kibble ingredients sticker (DEGRADED QUALITY!) slapped over it.. my heart sank! I sniffed again; a good, hard sniff and the odor made me GAG!! What the heck is going on?? I see Hydrolysed Fish.. I have THAT for providing extra nutrition to a sick chicken, but my cats won't TOUCH it and I see it listed as the third INGREDIENT? I just had hubby stuck HIS nose in.. he found it pretty gross and can't smell fish, but he says it smells of moldy Cottonseed Meal (he used to be a cattle farmer). I grabbed my pot of Hydrolysed Fish Protein and to me the food smells like a watered-down version with that weird "mealy" aroma my husband detected.... no wonder the cats are walking away! Where is that lovely Healthy species-appropriate HERRING OIL that was the FOURTH ingredient. Now it is WAY down the ingredient list! Replaced instead with PORK FAT! Pork Fat is LOW in cat-critical Arachidonic Acid for starters and is LESS PALATABLE than Chicken Fat.. yes, I have the feeding studies.. I see that Farmina have had to ADD Natural Flavours; I presume due to the low palatability of this new stuff? Poor Bertie the Flame Point kitten was the only one who ate a significant amount and he had explosive diarrhea in the bathroom litter box that night around 3 am. I cleaned it up and went back to bed. He seemed OK.. THEN he jumped back on to the bed, and cooched up with me.. then the SMELL!! Diarrhea was on his paws, on my night-shirt, my face, my pillow and sheets and right arm.. I spent the next 45 minutes getting everything cleaned up, including ME! When my husband checked the porch kitties' bowls, they had not been touched.. normally the cats have their meal and any leftovers get cleaned up by the resident Skunk.. that MUST tell you something! The CHICKENS only ate half the food we put out. That means the rest goes to the DUCKS. This is a very expensive Duck Food."

I also went to ImportYeti, and discovered that FARMINA USA is importing the following "Hog-Grade" ingredients - but these are NOT listed on any of the packaging!

BLOOD MEAL from ITALY (90,000 lbs at a time), LAMB MEAT AND BONE MEAL, VENISON MEAT AND BONE MEAL from New Zealand; also 90,000 lbs at a time. FISH MEAL from Denmark, 88,000 lbs of PORK MEAL at a time, as well as "PORK GREAVES MEAL" and "DOG DIGEST LIQUID" - whatever THAT is!
I was repeatedly IGNORED by them, despite being a 10-year customer who promoted them heavily. I left messages at that North Carolina plant that remained unanswered. I had 11 x 11 lb bags I wanted to return. Finally, WEEKS later, I left a phone message to say that I was going to request a charge-back from the card company and THAT got their attention! BOTH the audio AND the transcript from my 45 minute Phone call with "Chris" were requested several times but my requests were not acknowledged. The original Italian-made product is still good according to friends in the EU. So sad and frustrating that the lies and deceit has destroyed SO many people's trust in this company, including mine.

We’re truly sorry to hear about your experience and the distress this situation has caused—for you and for your cats. We understand how concerning it is when a product your animals have trusted for years seems different, and we take feedback like this very seriously.

Our team has been in contact with you and remains committed to reviewing your case thoroughly. We want to reassure you that all Farmina products—regardless of manufacturing location—are formulated to meet strict quality and safety standards, and ingredient changes (when they occur) are made carefully and transparently within regulatory guidelines.

That said, what you’ve described regarding smell, texture, and your cats’ reactions is not the experience we want for any customer or pet. We would like to continue working with you directly to investigate the specific batch you received, including a quality review and appropriate resolution.

Please continue coordinating with our customer service team so we can make this right. Your long-term trust means a great deal to us, and we appreciate you bringing this to our attention.

Spoiled food, terrible customer service.

Food was spoiled and had a foul, rancid smell. Called customer service to report the issue. Originally spoke to Chris, who indicated, he would check with the owner and call me back the next day, however never heard from him. Followed up a couple days laterand spoke to Lacey. Felt she was very unprofessional, not friendly, and seemed preoccupied with other matters while listening to the concerns about possible contamination of the product especially when I shared concerns that an animal could get very sick, or perhaps die from a contaminated product. I will never purchase anything FARMINA again.

When I first feeded cod orange grain…

When I first feeded cod orange grain free dry to my Maltese I was enthusiastic as I noticed nice hair as he has long hair and energy, that badge was made in Italy. This happened in Greece then I returned in London and I had to order online so the two badges that came were both made in Serbia. I noticed lethargy, the coat dry and overall no matter what the company suggests that they make checks I believe the quality is lower therefore, I will have to change food and that’s a pity . I think is better a company to avoid more earnings because they end with much less clients than what they would have if they continued correct production.

Update: To reply to the review I didn’t move. We are living in London and were in Greece for the summer so that doesn’t matter. Also I emailed to Italy customer support in the near past and received no answer and is a little disappointing seeing such a quick answer here . Thanks

Thank you for taking the time to reach out and share your concerns with us. We understand how concerning it can be when your pet’s coat and energy levels change. However, it’s important to note that a change in environment and routine, such as moving from Greece to London, can sometimes affect a dog’s digestion, stress levels, and overall well-being, even when the diet remains the same.

Please be assured that Farmina maintains the same strict quality, safety, and ingredient standards across all of our production facilities. Every ingredient is carefully tested before, during, and after production to ensure purity, quality, and consistency.

That said, every dog is unique, and their nutritional needs can change over time. We would be more than happy to help you determine what might be causing these changes and recommend a custom nutritional plan tailored to your Maltese’s current needs.

We sincerely hope your dog is feeling better, and we truly value your feedback. If you would like to discuss this further or receive personalized guidance, please feel free to contact us anytime. We are here to help.
