Very friendly staff and attentive on a busy Saturday night, restaurant full. One starter quite overly salty but everything else excellent. Even a little free treat at the end for my birthday, not expected, nice touch. Will visit again Billericay branch and now want to try Warley

Not great experience

Recently visited Felix Billericay, not eaten here for a few years. This visit was not great. When we arrived the maitre d’ was having a phone conversation and at the same time gesticulating to us to close the door, which we’d left slightly ajar. Two servers were in the reception, neither of whom greeted us or offered to take our coats.
Table service was ok although some of the servers were a little dour and aloof. We asked why the dover sole had been removed from the menu, answer - because the chef feels it is “temperamental”, not even sure what this means, most good quality fish restaurants offer Dover sole. I ordered the scallops followed by the monkfish from the lite dinner menu. Scallops starter were fine, although far too much garnish, totally unnecessary. The monkfish was advertised as 6ozs (as opposed to 9ozs on the a la carte) so I naturally assumed I would be receiving a piece of monkfish just smaller than the à la carte. I was presented with what I can only describe as thin trimmings (or offcuts) of monkfish, heavily covered in sauce. It certainly didn’t seem like a whole piece of monkfish. Flavours were good though and I did eat much of it.
The following evening I suffered from food poisoning. Whilst I can’t pin point it to Felix, and certainly as far as I know none of my fellow diners suffered in the same way, I can’t help but think it was related to the monkfish.
Won’t be visiting again until they restore their service to how I remember a few years ago.

After wedding celebration not exactly

Food was nice but not stunning, Servuce was not great though. We had to ask 3 times for a bottle of tonic. And twice for the bottle of wine. When we asked fur a jug of water, we were told they didn’t have enough jugs.! And orders for other tables kept being brought to us, One guest wanted cheese/crackers after the meal, but was told they had no cheese. I asked for coffee but it never arrived, We had booked to visit straight from the Registry Office after 2 of the diners had just got married. Was not that special .

Faster than a Drive-Thru

My husband and I were looking forward to a relaxing dinner, but sadly, the experience was more like a hurried drive-thru. The service felt incredibly rushed, leaving no time to truly enjoy the meal or the atmosphere.
From the moment we sat down, everything seemed to be on a strict timer. Bread, starters, and main courses were served within the first 30 minutes, and we found ourselves walking out of the restaurant after just 60 minutes. The rapid pace made it impossible to savor the food, and by the time our main courses arrived, we were too full to eat and enjoy them.

Unfortunately, the hurried service overshadowed what could have been a lovely evening. If you’re looking for a leisurely dining experience to enjoy with your partner, this may not be the place.

Dissapointing food

I have eaten at Felix,Wharly twice recently. The ambience & quality of the staff are extremely good, very attentive & helpful. However I was very dissapointed with the food on both occasions.
Prawns & avocado salad was an excess of mustard & cress with some very tiny prawns & miniscule pieces of avocado.
When I asked for salmon to be served with the chilli sauce separately, I was given a small bowl with a whole chilli sliced up in it, I asked the waitress what I was supposed to do with it but she either didn't understand or didn't know.
I ordered a starter as a main meal, soft shell crab. I was given 2 starters. Each in it's own bowl, with a lettuce leaf tucked in the side & 2 bowls of accompanying dip. I don't think it would have taken too much effort to have put the food onto a plate, maybe with some salad garnish. It was deep fried crab claws & there was so much batter that I couldn't taste any crab or even see any. I had to order chips separately at £5 for a small bowl. The deep fried supposedly crab cost £32. I have to say it was the worst value, poorly presented & tasteless dish that I have ever had & something that I didn't expect coming from a top class restaurant.
We asked for water for the table & was given a very expensive foreign bottle of water.
When we asked for tap water the waiter poured it for us but wouldn't leave the jug.
Also, the acoustics are very poor & even when not full it is extremely noisy & impossible to have a proper conversation.
All in all I think this restaurant is greatly overrated & doesn't deserve its reputation.

I took 2 guests to Felix Billericay

I took 2 guests to Felix Billericay, yesterday.
I found that most of the food was delicious, the staff were welcoming and friendly. One of my guests was celebrating her 80th birthday . She chose a wing of skate from the main menu. Unfortunately it was rather small and disappointingly overcooked and dry.
Not wanting to spoil the evening she ate a small amount and was obviously unimpressed. When our plates were being cleared l mentioned to the waitress our disappointment. No member of staff came to discuss it or apologise. Apart from this the ambiance was very good.I would recommend this restaurant but possibly with a caveat re the skate!

First and last visit. assured restaurant could…

Was assured restaurant could accommadate need to avoid dairy and soya. Sadly they did this only by leaving things off the plate rather than adapting recipe so my meal was tasteless. Was told chefs cook in bulk so cannot or will not cook to order. At their prices I think they should so will not return

Good Food

Had a lovely evening at Felix Warley entertaining 2 guest over from Oz. Food was excellent as were the staff. Service was prompt and polite.
Two issue prevents me from giving 5 stars. (1) Very noisy - yes it was full, but almost impossible to hold a conversation at normal levels. Given that a lot of money must have been spent on the recent refurbishment, employing a specialist acoustics company to make the venue even better would be of benefit to your customers. This point seems to escape almost all restaurants these days. (2) Why are you importing bottled water from Romania in very heavy glass bottles? Hardly fits in with sustainability and eco credentials these days. Having lived in the area for 30+ years I can attest that the local tap water is indeed very good and should be promoted ahead of any sort of bottled water.
