Awful experience

Awful experience, tons of technical problems and support calls (9 cents/Minute) while changing the card owner. In the end I was prompted by support to select a scammer "Classic Tarif" which drains all your account balance because Internet costs 24 Cents per MB.
I couldn't top up my account for a week online because payments from my bank account were blocked as for a new card owner.

A loyal FONIC customer for 15 years

I’ve been a loyal FONIC customer for 15 years, along with my entire family, trusting them to provide reliable and fair mobile services. However, my recent experience has left me utterly disappointed, financially burdened, and ready to take my family’s business elsewhere. FONIC’s actions have been nothing short of deceptive, and I feel compelled to share my story to warn others.
It all started when FONIC abruptly canceled my “Smart 12 GB” plan without proper warning. Instead of transitioning me to a comparable plan—say, a 10 GB option that would have been reasonable—they forced me onto their “Classic” plan, which charges an extortionate 24 cents per MB. To put this into perspective, my entire balance was depleted within a single day due to this outrageous pricing. Worse still, their automatic refill system deducted an additional 50 EUR from my account, leaving me shocked and frustrated. I couldn’t help but wonder: why didn’t FONIC move me to a similar data plan? It almost feels like they intentionally set me up to incur these excessive charges.
Their so-called “notification” about the plan change was a complete failure. I received a vague email that landed in my spam folder and an SMS that got buried among countless other messages. The message simply read, “Tariff change successfully completed.” There was no indication that I needed to take action or that I’d suddenly be facing astronomical costs. To make matters worse, the plan change was implemented immediately, giving me no time to react or explore alternatives. I was left feeling blindsided and betrayed by a company I’d trusted for over a decade.
As a result of their negligence, I’ve been without connectivity for over a week because FONIC failed to activate a new plan for me. When I reached out to their customer support, their response was beyond dismissive. They didn’t even offer compensation—just a vague statement that they might consider a 15 EUR voucher. Meanwhile, they’ve kept my 50 EUR, showing no urgency or accountability. They also promised to “investigate” the issue, but it’s been over a week, and I’ve heard nothing. This lack of communication and follow-through is unacceptable for a company that claims to value its customers.
What stings even more is seeing FONIC’s advertisements, where they proudly proclaim themselves as “FAIR.” Fair? Hardly. Their actions have been anything but fair—cancelling plans without proper notice, imposing unfair charges, and leaving loyal customers like me in the lurch. After 15 years of loyalty, I expected better. My entire family is now prepared to switch to another provider if FONIC doesn’t immediately refund my 50 EUR and rectify this situation.
I strongly advise other consumers to carefully review their plans with FONIC and be wary of their practices. If a company can treat a 15-year customer this poorly, I can only imagine how they might treat others. FONIC’s slogan may say “FAIR,” but my experience has shown that their priorities lie elsewhere. I hope they take accountability soon—otherwise, they’ll lose not just my family’s business, but the trust of many others as well.

I have never written a review - but this is nuts...

I've been trying to change to a competitor.
There seems to be a problem between the two companies and they can't transfer my number. Has been going for almost two weeks. (in the meantime i had to buy another month of Fonics services of course to be able to keep contact with business clients via my normal number)
I called FONIC several times, they would be repeating the same things over and over. Even if you are friendly and calm, they wont have patience for the problems of their own company.
Even if you explain, that you have done the same thing thirce already, they wont let you speak to anyone with the skills/rights/overview to actually help you - they will just try to solve the problem in the one same (not working) way.
If it doesn't work again - they try the same thing again, blame you and have such a short fuse while being incredibly unhelpful.
I don't know if it's the people of the customer service - i think it's more poor business structures.
They also do not have a chat/mail service anymore. Only the 9ct an minute Hotline, where i waited a total of six hours over the last weeks.
Absolute shitshow, it's almost funny.

Poor payment system

Poor systems, online APP and website didn't work to enter a new payment account after a payment didn't go through. Had to buy another Aufladekarte at a store to fix this...

Negligence of their duty towards…

Negligence of their duty towards customers. The Fonic company is making fool of customers just to make more profit.
Use their services at your own risk as they will not help in need.

Fonic Mobil customer services are horrible!

Fonic customer service are very rude! I try to contactingthem through live chat, because I had problem with my order. The lady non the order end start hurrying me to write faster, before i knew it she ended the live chat. Then I called their hotline (which is by the way very expensive) but immediately after she noticed I want the call recorded, the lady just hung up on me! I called again, another lady picked up the phone, but she also started hurrying me to talk faster and didn't give me enough time to explain the issues am having regarding my order. Am done with Fonic mobil! I would get a phone contract from Kable Deutschland instead, they have been very good with my house telephone contract.

Awful customer service!

I am a customer at Fonic and I live in Germany. My german is not so good because I am still learning it. I called their customer service and i tried talk to the guy in my broken german and once he heard how I was speaking, he hang up the phone, he didn't even try to listen to me. Once I tried to contact them via Chat, they told me i should have a german speaking person nearby. They made me feel so incompetent and I don't think that customer service is suppose to make you feel like that. This is the rudest and the most unhelpful customer service ever. Why do they even have it, if nobody really works there!

DISASTER!!!!

The card is broken after 7 months of use. I ordered a new card and had to pay for it myself which didn't arrive for 7 days and meanwhile I asked them 100 times if they can track down where the card got lost. But they just send it with the Post as a normal letter without the option of tracking down the letter in case it gets lost. Now I want them to send me my card as an express letter, so that it arrives finally after 7 days, but apparently the word flexibility is not in their vocabulary and they want to send another letter, which I don't know when will arrive. So I am going to resign from FONIC.

6 weeks to respond to support email. Choose another provider, not Fonic.

Cannot recommend Fonic (or Lidl) Mobile.
Problem 1: A friend purchased the 'wrong' type of SIM card, apparently there are multiple types depending on which plan you want…for those of us who are used to changing plans in the future, this is a very stupid idea. The SIM I had needed to be linked to a bank account to register, which kind of defeats the purpose of a prepaid card! On ringing support (they took >30 mins to answer, it is a premium call!), they told me I needed to buy a new card. They did offer to post me a replacement, but it did not suit me as I was traveling at the time. When I read the packet very carefully, there is very small print indicating a bank account is needed for this particular SIM card, quite deceptive and very opaque. Not acceptable advertising in my judgement.
Problem 2: After activation and using the phone for a week or two, the account was blocked. I waited several days before going through the pain of calling customer support again (I wouldn't stoop to call it 'service') - another 30 mins wait and several euro fee. Pathetic. It turns out my address details were incorrect in their system, and needed updating. I updated the details on the online portal and sent an email to customer service to unblock the account. An automated email indicated reply would be "soon". Today I finally received a response - over *** 6 weeks *** later. Amazing! Needless to say I've long chopped up the SIM card and changed to a different prepaid provider who doesn't have false advertising (problem 1) and responds to customer questions (problem 2) within a reasonable timeframe.
If this company thinks customers will wait and pay to talk to unhelpful support staff, and cannot be bothered to reply to email support questions within 2-3 business days, they won't have customers for very long. The call rates are virtually all the same in Germany across the various providers. Do yourself a favour and choose a provider other than Fonic.
