Atrocious customer service, a once-great business spiraling down the toilet.
This pains me! I never write customer reviews but my experiences with Foodora over the past couple of months have been so bad that I had to say something.
A few weeks ago I ordered from a restaurant. Although the restaurant had the food ready within twenty minutes, it took the driver forty to pick it up. The driver took another forty minutes to drive to my neighborhood. I saw that he was nearby so I went outside to wait for him on the curb, but the driver never showed up. I watched on the map as he pulled over about two minutes away from my building, and even though he hadn't made the delivery yet, he still marked it as completed. My order disappeared. I was flabbergasted, because he was so close to me, like two minutes away, and he still didn't complete the delivery. I didn't eat dinner till after 10 pm. OK - shet happens, but the worst part is that it took Foodora hours to get back to me because they no longer have a customer service line - and I only got a ten dollar voucher for my trouble. I wound up feeling like a dumbass for trying to order delivery instead of just cooking for myself, or getting take-out.
Flash forward to last night, when my roommate ordered fried chicken through Foodora. We ordered at 7:12 with a 38 minute ETA. At 7:50, the ETA still said 38 minutes. The restaurant closes at 8:00. Since I know the restaurant only takes about 2 minutes to assemble each order, this didn't seem right. So my roommate contacted Foodora customer service to explain the situation. The agent seemed to do nothing at all, and simply re-stated the ETA of 38 minutes. At about 8:25, the ETA went up to 39 minutes - one full hour after we ordered! So my roommate contacted Foodora a second time, and the agent simply gave her the restaurant's phone number and asked her to figure it out herself. So she called the restaurant, and they said they had the order ready at 7:15, minutes after it was placed, but nobody had showed up - they were waiting around for the driver after closing hours! So my roommate relayed that to Foodora, and at long last we were assigned a driver. They picked up the food and brought it to our place at around 9:30. Great - cold, soggy, 2-hour old fried chicken. Foodora agreed to refund the meal, but offered no explanation, and seemed to have no interest in keeping a frequent customer.
This company used to have dominance in the Toronto food delivery game. I had friends that enjoyed working for them, and most people I know enjoyed ordering Foodora. What Foodora offered over other delivery services in the game, like UberEats and Skip, was multifold: better customer service, more employee support, better selection of restaurants, and better prices. All that has gone out the window in just a few months.
I don't know what happened. Maybe they spent too much cash trying to compete with UberEats in other areas instead of just locking down the areas where Foodora was strongest. Maybe some people at the top just got greedy, or lazy, or egomaniacal. But they started stiffing their employees wages, and lost a lot of staff, and therefore revenue. Then they sacked their customer service department and took down their support phone line. And now prices are going up, service has gone downhill, and twice in a month they've failed to fulfill a delivery downtown in a city dominated by couriers. They aren't good to their staff, they aren't good to their customers, and they aren't even good to the restaurants. Stay away from Foodora.
P.S. I've worked in food service, at a restaurant that had Foodora, and the app for restaurants is a nightmare and has always been terrible. It's annoying, clunky, loud, and difficult to use. I always figured they would improve the system over time but that never happened and now it's a joke for customers, too. Just a bad business, through and through.
