The password that was generated was one that I could never conceive of myself. I always used my family information so that I could remember it easily. This made it easier for hackers.

Password generator audit

Password generator audit

I am a security researcher who is doing a browser-based password generator audit, and this list came under my radar. There are 10 criteria for my audit, and this generator scores well on 4 of the 10:

* Passwords are generated in the client.
* Passwords are randomly generated.
* The site defaults to HTTPS.
* The site supports mobile devices.

It fails on the following

* The source code is proprietary.
* It uses Math.random() instead of window.crypto.getRandomValues()
* The generator is using a biased algorithm.
* The security strength of the generated passwords is 59-bits.
* The site with littered with tracking advertisements.
* The site does not use sub-resource integrity for externally loaded resources.

4/10 is a poor result for a password generator. As a comment that doesn't affect the scoring, the loading an additional ad page for 10 seconds before showing the password is sleazy, and the inability to regenerate a new password without navigating back in your browser history leads to an unpleasant UX.
