Freedompop is a joke
Freedompop is a joke. The worst internet service ever. Don't even bother to sign up for it. Very disappointed.

The most expensive minutes on the industry
The free plan is ok, but the paid plans are so expensive, I get a SIM card on target it was supposed to be 19.90 for a 3 months plan with 100 minutes per month. In reality it was for one month. It is way to expensive. An de free wifi calls… it does not work and once you paid there is not reimburse.. it says in their policy. I get my sim on July 19, I have to pay this month $19.

They keep charging you even if you…
They keep charging you even if you cancel your account. I've been trying to cancel for months, yet I keep getting billed. Now I'm working with my credit card company to block the charges.

Total fraud/scam!
Total fraud/scam!
I haven't used the FreedomPop service for years. I haven't received any communication with them since 2018 when I complained about the $0.01 charge they were making on a monthly basis and they refunded one month and stopped charging me. Now in June and July of 2021 they have started charging me $4.04 each month.
EDIT: After waiting on hold forever they agreed that the "email address" they had "sent" some notification to was actually a phone number and they agreed to refund me my $8.08 and remove my credit card from their system. I am satisfied with the resolution but still VERY dissatisfied that I had to deal with this on an account that had been closed for so long.

Never again!
Recent update, same crap from them asking for information but nothing of substance. Still no excuse for crappy system, poor reception and incredibly slow data. Free? I say worthless...
They claim to have notified me that they were changing to a monthly fee for service. I never received, likely went to spam. I only found out when I had a charge on PayPal. I never had a subscription, just used PayPal to purchase a phone 5-10 years ago which never worked properly. Never continued service and phone died years ago. Hadn't even known they were still in business until I was charged. I immediately tried to get customer service which took a month to get back to me. I stopped any further payments but of course they declined to refund the money they took from me.
Crappy customer service, crappy phones and lousy service network. You get what you pay for and my experience was a minus 10!

TOTAL FRUSTRATION WITH THIS COMPANY
Money taken from account but no sim cards received after 5 days, I ordered 2. Cannot access online account to query because no password has been sent to me. Online chat is automated and takes me round in circles that always lead back to telling me to sign into my account which I am unable to do. Tried sending email to ask for password to be sent to me and for info on missing sim cards but have only received automated reply. This sounds like a con that I am unable to cancel as I cannot access account to cancel.

The only change in my earlier review concerns the number of years I've dealt with them. Research indicates that it is 7.5 years rather than 11. Gambling that their response won't resolve anything.
The only reason I've put up with this company for 11 years is that they offered 7gigs of data on a 770s hotspot. Recently the hotspot wouldn't connect to the internet and was also exhibiting a "no battery" error condition. So, I sent a service ticket through their email site. The answer, they informed me, was to go to the internet carriers's website to correct certain issues. This did not correct the problem. I then sent them another service ticket to inform them that the failure persisted. They then answered again and informed me that they checked the issue and found that there were no problems with my device. I then checked my device and found that it was still malfunctioning. I then sent a third ticket to again inform them that the device was still malfunctioning and in response they asked me for 2 items of information to be obtained from my device. I sent the info to them and from that moment on I was unable to contact the service support and now when attempting to enter the password, it tells me that I'm giving either the incorrect user name or password. Their address and phone numbers have always been difficult to obtain and at the moment I'm seven months into a 12 month plan with no way to alleviate the matter. I noticed that they closed my service ticket as "completed" without ever resolving the issue. I'm now attempting research for a way to get the money owed to me for the remaining 5 months. In 11 years I've had several issues with this company's dishonesty. It's just absolutely amazing that they're still in business in any form.

Charged for a upgrade after 3 years of inactivity
A mandatory upgrade from a free plan to a paid for plan when you haven't used their services in over 3 years is incredibly stupid. The icing on the cake is going to cancel your account, and having the website tell you its not on file, only to later be charged because it turns out they have a old version of the website you're supposed to log into????
I will also mention that when I contacted support, it took 3 weeks for a response (sent june 15th reply Jul 8th) to which they refused my refund, stating that it was my fault for not opting out.

Fraudulent Charge
About 7-8 years ago, I tried FP services for 1-2 months, and then chose to close my account.
A few days ago, FP posted a charge to my credit card. I was told to go into my FP account and close the issue. The account is closed as it should be.
It appears that I am stuck with this fraudulent charge

Freedompop works, but has fake charges
Freedompop works, but I have not used it in over 3 years. 2 months ago I started getting MANY charges for "$3.99" on my PayPal that I did not authorize.
I managed to find my password for FP and logged in, the account showed 0 charge. Why are you charging me? PayPal refuses to refund.. says they have canceled the "recurring" charges, but next month I'm charged again.
I created support tickets on FP, but never heard back.
FP - Refund my money!

It is a scam...
It is a scam, make sure to keep an eye on your credit card account, since they will keep charging it after you cancel your account.
In my case, they had created a second account, which was inaccessible to me, and kept charging me for the service I had never ordered...

Don't Use them
I cancelled my account several times. I was getting charge a fee of 3.99 then multiple charges of .01. We have called and cancelled. We finally had enough and cancelled our card in August 2020. June 21 we just got two charges of 3.99 each. I never gave them any updated credit card information. The previous card they were charging to had expired. I want this stopped. I cancelled my account and card again.

Fraudulent charges
I have a confirmation email from 2019 stating that my account was cancelled at my request and that I would not be charged again. Suddenly FreedomPop takes it upon themselves to start charging me $4 per month for a cancelled account. Luckily I have the email confirming the cancellation and am filing for a chargeback with my bank. I suggest anyone else with fraudulent charges do the same. Banks charge businesses quite a bit more in fees than the $4 that this dishonest company makes per month from each victim and enough people filing will make it not profitable for them to continue the practice.

Opened a free plan with them maybe 4 years ago and now I'm getting charged $3.99
Their phone line is automated and hangs up on its own. And haven't received a response from them via email after 4 days

Stay away from this unethical company!
Like other people wrote already, I too got charged for the service I haven't used or approved. Many years ago, I signed up for their free service and I have not even used those two accounts for about 5 years. All the sudden a couple of days ago, I noticed they charged my Paypal account $4.02 twice. Now I find out they have automatically switched me to a paid account without my approval. This is a very bad business practice and even though they may get away with it legally, this is is a scam in my book. I hardly ever write reviews or report to any agencies because I do not want to waste my time on small matter, but this is really terrible and I want to warn other to stay away from this unethical company!
Very dishonest/crook
Very dishonest and as a matter of fact crook/criminal company. 10 texts per month and of course auto charge $2.99 if you use one extra text. What they don't tell you is that you need a Wi-Fi calling phone to use the unlimited calls. So you are staying home 24/7 to use WiFi? How about when you are out? Stay away from this company.

I wonder how many people they have been stealing money from? I haven't used this service for about 7 years. I thought I was on a free plan until they started charging me. I don't even have a phone number with them. They know they are not providing any service.

Stay away at all cost
One word: thiefs.
They retired 200/200/500 plan I was signed for and requested either to accept new 5/25/xx or to cancel account. I cancelled account and asked to refund unused funds from it. How naive I was.. They told me because I cancelled the account, I was not anymore on their refund policy.
Update: contacted BBB and FP customer service more times, but without luck. FP keeps saying that unused funds after account cancellation can not be refunded even partially.

Fraudulent charges
4 or more years ago I tried a 100% free cell phone service from freedompop. It required providing your credit card number as there was a shipping charge for the Sim card and if you chose to purchase any premium services such as more minute or data. The service didn’t work, it was unreliable and calls couldn’t be completed so it was discontinue and never used. Now after all these years I get a charge on my card for a monthly fee for services. I called customer service and was told it was a charge for services and they changed their pricing structure. I explained I have not used their service and only tried it many many years ago I did not know how they had my card number still and asked for a refund which was refused I told them it was an unauthorized charge and it was fraudulent for them to charge me something that was advertised as free that was also never used. They told me I was informed of the upcoming charges by then send me an email again since this account was set up many many many years ago it was not a currently active email address and that still would not have changed the term of services as the account was 100% free I agreed to. Anyone who has an inactive account who has been charged should immediately file a dispute with their card company asking for a charge back and file a complaint with the FTC
