I would actually rate my experience 4.5 out of 5 if that were possible. As a Web3 / TLD newbie, some important details only became clear to me afterwards – for example that a TLD owner also has... See more

I decided to give Freename a try instead of one of my usual registrars, and it turned out to be a massive mistake. I’m trying to launch a small business on a shoestring budget, and their low domain registration price initially seemed like a good deal. Unfortunately, I discovered too late that something as basic as domain forwarding isn’t even available.
Because of this, the domain I paid for is essentially being held hostage. I can’t transfer it to a full-featured registrar like GoDaddy for another two months, and the only other option would be to pour more time and money into moving to an entirely different hosting platform — which would mean rebuilding my website from scratch. At this point, I may just have to bite the bullet, go to a real domain registrar, and pay for a year’s registration of a .net version of my domain so I can move forward.
From the moment I registered the domain, my DNS settings page has shown this warning:
“Using external name servers limits the feature set and domain integration Freename can provide. Services like email redirection, websites and more will not be available for this domain until you switch to Freename's DNS servers. Learn more about DNS in our Knowledge Base.”
This message makes no sense because I never changed any name servers. To make matters worse, the “Knowledge Base” link just loops back to the DNS settings page, providing zero helpful information.
When I reached out to customer service, they were not helpful at all. They never addressed why the DNS warning appears in the first place and essentially told me to go pay for another hosting service instead, because they don’t offer something as basic as domain redirection.
If you’re thinking of using Freename to save a few dollars, don’t. It’s not worth the frustration or the wasted time.

I've needed help from the support team several times and was impressed with everyone that I worked with. Chat usually only took a few minutes to connect and they were excellent. Knowledgeable, considerate and amazingly patient.

This is trash...
there is no clear documentation on how to use the domain. The requirement to Mint is confusing and does not make sense. The website is designed to convice you to purchase. its click bait.

I made a mistake in my order and contacted support. I was expecting a chat bot and FAQs that lead nowhere, and a lengthy process to rectify it (as is standard these days), and was amazed at the rapid and excellent response I got from Siful and the team.

In the ever-evolving world of Web3, where owning your digital identity is more important than ever, Freename.io stands out as a game-changer. This platform isn’t just another domain registrar—it’s a revolution in decentralized naming.
Why Freename.io is a Must-Try
✅ True Ownership – Unlike traditional domains that you “rent” yearly, Freename domains are yours forever. No renewal fees, no middlemen, just pure blockchain sovereignty.
✅ Brand Your Own TLDs – This is where Freename really flexes. Instead of just buying a domain, you can create and own an entire Top-Level Domain (TLD)—think .yourbrand instead of .com—and even monetize it when others register names under it.
✅ Multi-Chain Support – Whether you’re deep into Ethereum, Binance Smart Chain, or Polygon, Freename ensures that your digital identity is flexible and future-proof.
✅ Web3 Ready – These domains aren’t just static names; they unlock Web3 capabilities like decentralized websites, crypto wallet addresses, and NFT integrations.
✅ Unstoppable Innovation – Unlike legacy domains controlled by ICANN, Freename’s blockchain-based domains can’t be seized, censored, or controlled by centralized entities. Your name, your rules.
The Verdict
Freename.io isn’t just an alternative to traditional domains—it’s the future of digital ownership. Whether you’re a brand, a creator, or a Web3 enthusiast, this platform offers unmatched control, customization, and earning potential.
If you’re still stuck in the old Web2 domain world, it’s time to level up. Freename.io isn’t just an option—it’s a Web3 necessity.
