NOT A REPUTABLE BUSINESS
Purchased an Airzound bike horn. I can get a new one for 45 dollars from Amazon with no additional shipping. This was on for $20 and change. When I put it in the cart it was 21 and change; they had automatically added shipping insurance. By the time it was all said and done it was 32 and change. It arrived without the clamp to attach the horn to the bike making it unusable. I of course am returning the unusable bike horn. They are charging me 9 dollars for return shipping for the defective item so I am getting a refund of $11 and change, they aren't even refunding the tax I paid. After looking up the actual cost of shipping, it is also clear they are making a couple bucks each way on shipping. So I'm learning a $20 lesson. I should have checked the reviews. Some people get what they pay for apparently, but my experience is clearly not an anomaly.
Deceiving commission verbiage-I listed a backpack with Geartrade
I listed a backpack with Geartrade. Their website said that they take a 15% commission on the sale. However, they took 55% of the sale price! When contacted, they said that the 15% commission is for another "peer to peer" transaction and web site, that they had discontinued.
Their business practices and terms and conditions are deceiving. It's too bad since I thought I had a good source for buying/selling my gear.
There are better options with more honesty and transparency.
Its a rip off
Its a rip off. I sent in over $4000 worth of clothing and gear and I got $76 for everything. They took months to list the stuff and then they donated the rest of the stuff that didnt sell. They need to be shut down, its a total scam.
Geartrade is a Disorganized Mess
I purchased an expensive tent from gear trade, advertised as a top-end model from Big Agnes. However, soon after I made the purchase, I noticed that some of the pictures didn't line up with listed tent. Sure enough, once the tent arrived it was a much older and lower-end model which I never would have bought. To their credit, Geartrade immediately offered to take the tent back for a full refund. Normally I would assume this is an honest mistake, but this tent has the exact model name written in large letters on the side. Of course, this portion of the tent wasn’t shown in any of the pictures they provided. It’s hard for me to think this wasn’t somewhat intentional, and at the very least Geartrade is not inspecting its items as thoroughly as they claim.
So, I sent the product back. It has now been a week since it arrived back at Geartrade, and I have not received a refund or any communication. They may have a return backlog, but a full week is a bit much! At least they should tell their customers when to expect a refund, leaving me in the dark like this makes me think I’ve been scammed. If a refund is not issued within two weeks of them recieving my return, I will take the matter up with my bank.
So in summary: I ordered an egregiously misrepresented item on Geartrade for a premium price, and when I realized what had happened gear trade agreed to take it back for a full refund. I sent it back and it arrived at their warehouse a full week ago, and I haven’t received a refund. I’m beginning to wonder if I’ve been scammed.
What I wish Geartrade would do: Properly inspect their items, communicate with their customers about returns, and make at attempt to organize their business.
UPDATED: I just received a refund and they listed the item again, with the exact same incorrect listing. It is now clear to me that this company is attempting to scam customers who don't know that the tent is misrepresented. I highly caution against dealing with geartrade.
The service is amazing
The service is amazing, and you get gear that is only available at limited quantity in the United States at times! The quality of service is just as good as Amazon, and Amazon is A-plus! I have told all my friends about Geartrade, more fun that REI!
I've never sold anything here but…
I've never sold anything here but Geartrade is great for buying from. But oh my god they just ****ed up the site so bad. There wasn't even anything wrong with it. Now it's borderline unusable.
Terrible experience
Terrible experience. Took them 6 weeks to receive and load my items on their site, then they take over 50% of whatever you're trying to sell your items for. Would not recommend. -5 out of 5 Stars.
Parasites.
Parasites.
Come on guys, you know what you are doing is wrong.
I think buying gear is pretty safe but you are better off donating your old gear to a good cause then let these guys make a fortune off of it.
Gear trade is a big rip off
Gear trade is a big rip off. They take forever to list your gear. I mean weeks possibly months after you've sent it. Their communication is poor. They sell brand-new unused gear at full price to other people and then they give you 50% or less! Honestly you have a better shot at selling it yourself online on some other platform that doesn't take half of the proceeds. I don't think I'd buy from here knowing that they rip people off this much.
Always ask if there are holes!
I was mostly satisfied with the clothes I got. I just don't understand why they let people resell clothes with HOLES in it.

I'm only giving one star because there…
I'm only giving one star because there isn't an option for negative stars. This company is a parasite and I will never use there service, buy from them, or support there business in anyway. Any company that would take over 50% of your sell is pathetic. Along with other reviews the way they mislead you with pricing is horrific and a disgrace. Basically all I can say is please never use this company and I can only hope anyone involved rots in hell and has a slow and torturing demise. Again with all due respect F&C$ these scumbags!
Vague and Misleading Pricing Policy
Geartrade has a very vague Pricing Policy that allows them to change your agreed-upon price whenever they want, without notice.
I initially agreed to sell a pair of $250 bike shoes on their site for $125. After just over 6 months, they sold the shoes for $37 which netted me just $9.79. At no time did they notify me of any price change.
When I reached out to them they said that, "After the initial 30 days of a Consignment item being listed, the price is reduced on a weekly basis to maintain pace with the depreciation of the item."
Nowhere is their Pricing Policy does it state such practice. What it does say is, "Geartrade may decrease the price based on market conditions, demand, and seasonality."
Although this broad statement questionably covers the aforementioned practice, this is completely misleading. No way would I have agreed to terms that depreciated my shoes by ~14% a month after listing for just 30 days. If this is standard practice for all gear consigned to their site, they should state so clearly.
I am very unsatisfied with my experience and although I love recycling gear back into the stream, I assure you that I definitely will never do so with Geartrade again.

Used the Geartrade consignment model…
Used the Geartrade consignment model and could not have been more impressed. First off it was easy for me to print the label and pile all my gear in a box. I didn't have to tell them what it was which just made the process so much easier. When they processed my items, they let me know what their recommended price was and allowed me to adjust it if I wanted to, which I did for a couple items. Most of my items sold quickly and the money showed up in my Geartrade account shortly thereafter. One trick that I found is that they don't automatically pay you because they give you the option to use your earnings on their site to buy other goods or to simply have the cash sent to your bank account. The model is pretty simple and I love that they give you a ton of options. More in demand and higher priced items are worth more and you as a seller earn more. Selling used gear has been a challenge for me in the past (time, effort to answer all the questions, and finding the right place to meet up with someone), but Geartrade solves all of that and I don't have to deal with it. That alone is value added for me. Really glad I found Geartrade.
Stay away from Geartrade!!!
Stay away!!! Aweful experience with an order from Geartrade. They sent a completely wrong item in a correct box. To me, this means that there was a customer return (to Backcountry) and the customer scammed them or this was a parts takeoff from a compkete bike. Either way, no one confirmed that the product in the box was legit. Extremely frustrating! They sent a return label and I am waiting for my refund which they say they will send refund when the seller (Backcountry).Furthermore, their policy states that they don"t pay the seller until the item has been successfully received and accepted by the buyer. This means that you have my money and should refund me as soon as you got the email receipt from Fedex.
I will never buy from Geartrade again and I spend a ton of money on outdoor gear. Geartrade is absolutely horrible. I can get an instant refund from Ebay and Amazon Warehouse...
Every business should follow their superb customer service
I have had stellar experiences with Geartrade. They had a Seller rectify description vs, photo discrepancies, facilitated "make an offer' with another seller and are extraordinarily responsive to any customer issues. Wish that more businesses followed their customer outreach example. Carol W.
It’s completely hit or miss…
It’s completely hit or miss when buying. Out of a handful of orders 3 were flawed, either the item wasn’t what it was stated to be, wrong item sent, and one item they sent multiple items instead of one and expected me to do all the leg work to return the item. They couldn’t figure out how I could print a label.
The amount of time I spent trying to fix their mistakes was absurd and stressful.
Selling? I didn’t realize how large their cut was, a smaller item that was sold at $15 and my share was was less than $1.75!
I love the idea of it and I did get a couple of things that were great buys and it kept those items from ending up in a landfill. However, it’s a lot of work and risky that the sizing will be correct (most items measurements aren’t provided) and that you’ll get the right item.
Because they don’t provide measurements you have to try and locate the item on the website of the original company that sold it and try to find the size/measurements. This takes a lot of time.
Have been a longtime buyer and seller…
Have been a longtime buyer and seller on Geartrade. Their customer service is always willing to do the right thing and solve any problem. Shout out to Scott for finding a solution on my last order where I needed a Black Diamond jacket that I ordered faster than I had originally selected. The service was prompt and the order showed up when I needed it. Hard to find service like this in a world of chat bots.
Horrible experience with an order from…
Horrible experience with an order from Backcountry via Geartrade. Listed as the wrong size, no description or even mention of existing extensive and obvious damage to item, days wait dealing with customer service to remedy via email, grossly inadequate reimbursement/refund to keep the item, and inconvenient return shipping method (different than the method shipped). This company is far behind the times of ecommerce and should be avoided at all costs. There are plenty of other online stores to choose from.
