Easy $

I found this site, and it's a gem! I've been able to sell all of my used outdoor gear for a nice chunk of change! It's helped me upgrade my skis and bindings for the upcoming season!

Great customer service

Bought some gear off the site, and the seller shipped within a couple days. However USPS lost my package for about 3 weeks. I reached out to GearTrade and they were super responsive, helpful, and kept me in contact with the seller in order to file claims, etc until my package finally arrived.

Just hit craigslist

A few years back it was decent. You could find good stuff at a decent price. Not sure what happened but when I go on there now I see people trying to get top dollar for used gear. Occasionally I'll see people trying to sell gear for more than it would cost in a shop. I guess folks get ripped off because they don't know any better then turn around and try to do the same to someone else.

Used gear is starting to become more expensive as people see the value in re-use. Some people also have an over-inflated value of their gear, so we are creating a solution for this. We are working on a tool to help sellers price their gear correctly and more reasonably. The new site should be live in just a few days, so check back soon. We will have more gear coming in that is priced right.

A great listing site for all your outdoor gear

As a seller for around 3 months now, GearTrade is incredibly efficient and has a great UI to quickly sell and list items. I am very thorough with my pictures, descriptions, and pricing so I have not encountered any problems with either GearTrade or my customers. Be honest with your sales and receive honest customers in return :)

GearTrade's return policy limits are 72…

GearTrade's return policy limits are 72 hours from receipt. The policy may be ok for clothes or shoes that are easily inspected, but problems with items like tents or sleeping pads (leaks, etc.)may not be evident until after 72 hours. In that case, you are just left with a used, defective item with cash gone. Better to look elsewhere.

I understand your concern and you make a valid point. Since we pay our sellers just a few days after the tracking number is entered, we want to make sure buyers contact us right away with any item issues. That way we can hold payment before it's sent to the seller. However, just because we send the seller payment for an order, doesn't mean we are not here to help you. Offer but no purchase

As a seller I am most disappointed with the site. I have had 5 offers on a tent which I accepted but NONE have followed thru with the purchase.
Having read complaints here about buying then getting a note the item is not available I am wondering g if this is happening or whether people just can't follow thru.

Buyer beware!!!

I have tried to re outfit my camping and backpacking gear from this site. I have a family and kids so I wasn't looking to pay full price and gently used gear is just broken in as far as I'm concerned. However!!!, this site if you purchase from any sellers other than Backcountry, is hit or miss at best. I have had less than a 50% completion rate with my orders. When I try to contact gear trade I get the same cut and paste responses over and over again. Always , reason for cancellation: none. I am beyond disappointed with this site and will never use it again. Buyer beware. Seems like it could be an amazing concept if they procured the items from the sellers before listing them that way you would be assured when you try to purchase something through them, YOU WOULD ACTUALLY RECIEVE IT!!!!!!

I'm sorry that some of the sellers you've tried to purchase from did not ship your gear. Recently, we've seen of a few of these complaints and have put in a few measures to stop this from happening.

First, we are contacting sellers with items over 6 months old to make sure these items are still available for sale.

Secondly, we are removing sellers that do not follow through with their orders.

Lastly, we have required sellers to state a reason for cancellation so the response doesn't say "NONE". I noticed this a few weeks back and we made this change so buyers are aware of the reason why the order cancelled. I apologize for that oversight in messaging.

I understand why your experience has been unsatisfactory and if you choose to shop with us again, please let us know if there is anything we can do to help your experience. Have a great day.

Received all payments and follow up on…

Received all payments and follow up on making sure that payments were on time and follow up was excellent. Did very well corresponding information between buyers and seller.

47 days since my item sold and still no payment received.

Item sold on Jan. 10th. It is February 25th and I still have not received payment. Customer service responds to my emails, but there is still no check in my mailbox.

I also see that they received the item on 2/3 and your check was mailed 10 days later. Did you end up receiving the check? If not, we are happy to resend the check or send payment via PayPal. Seller Beware: Poor Customer Service—They won't have your back like ebay

Buyer lied about the condition of a product I sold on the site. There's no way to disapprove it once it's in the buyer's possession. I asked for it be returned to me and the sale canceled, but GearTrade never pushed it with the buyer. So I got stuck with a bad review that weighed heavily on my trust rating. They take 13% of your profit. I have had far better luck selling on ebay and craigslist.com. This outfit is sketch.

Very Poor customer service

Beware when you purchase from Gear Trade. I ordered two items from this company. One was a pair of scuba shoes. When they arrived they were not as described. Very small and would not fit me. It took approx ten days to receive them. I want to return them but Gear Trade will not accept it.
Second item I ordered was scuba gloves. I received a e-mail this morning from they the order has been cancelled by them. No reason. After waiting ten days they cancelled the order.
How can a company operate this way? Very Very poor customer service and I will not do any more business with them, What a rip off company.

If you received an item that was misrepresented, you can certainly return the item. For example, if you ordered a size 8 and received a 9, that is grounds for a return. I'm sorry you had a bad experience on GearTrade. Let me know what we can do for you.

Sellers beware.

Might be a good place to buy items, but think twice before trying to sell anything. Buyer received my item 5 days ago, still no word about payment...
**Update**
Their policy states that the buyer has 72 hours to inspect the item before payment is sent. In any case, 8 days have passed and I have yet to see any kind of payment.
**Update**
Today is February 16th, and I have yet to see any kind of payment for the item I shipped in good faith. I will give it 24 hours before I report the item as stolen to my local police department. It has been 19 days since I shipped it.

Problem solved

Got a huge problem with a seller (backcountry) and I have to say I has been deal with masterfully by geartrade executives...
So go ahead, you can trust their customer service ;)
