Sold me a product I didn’t need.

Sold me a product I didn’t need.
I was called by GID 3 times. Twice left a message by a women who sounded like she couldn’t be bothered and third by Adam. I wasn’t entirely happy about being phoned but I let him speak. Gap insurance or cap as he called it. I did wonder why I wasn’t offered it at the garage and I did want the product. Fast forward to me being told about all these other benefits like, key replacement, insurance excess protection and accident assistance. I had these products already with my insurance and breakdown, but it all came as a package. £50 per month for 10 months. I agreed as I thought it all was part of cap/gap.
Get the paperwork and a statement of questions and answers revealed that I had been mislead. All these other benefits products were separate and not required to take out the gap insurance, and it implied I needed them and I discussed them in a back and forth question and answer way- no. This was not true and I was upset as this was a lie. I was more upset as I informed him I was autistic and needed time to read through anything first. What he initially sent me was not this. I called to cancel and spoke to Diane who defended the behaviour and said he was new, and wouldn’t have sold me anything I didn’t need. Eventually she advised me that the policy would be cancelled- until this morning a £50 direct debit came out of my account. So exactly what does cancelled mean? That I have to ring around everyone, or you who set up this policy should do that for me?
Look, I’m sure if you need this then it’s a worthwhile product, but if you are distance selling over the phone in an industry that has had its issues, then you have to be open and transparent, and for all I fell for the niceness and explanations, I was hoodwinked into purchasing something I did not need. Shame on you for doing that and to someone who told you they were autistic.

Thank you for your review, and please accept our sincere apologies for our delay in responding — this was unavoidable on our side but we are sorry nonetheless.

We would like to take this opportunity to clarify a couple of points, whilst also holding our hands up where we have genuinely fallen short.

The product Adam sold you is our CAP policy — a combined protection package which does include GAP insurance, key replacement, insurance excess protection and accident assistance as standard. We hope that provides some reassurance that you were not purposely sold anything unnecessary or misleading.

However, where we must and do apologise unreservedly is the direct debit. You were told your policy was cancelled, after reading a payment has left your account. I would like to look into this — it is not acceptable and it is not the standard we hold ourselves to.

We would also like to acknowledge your disclosure during the call that you are autistic and requested time to review your documents. We take that seriously and would like to discuss your experience further to make sure we handled that as we should have.

Please do contact me directly -catherinemythen@gidltd.com and we can arrange a convenient time to speak.

Again, we are sorry for the distress this has caused you.

Kind regards,
Catherine Mythen

The staff were very pleasant and…

The staff were very pleasant and helpful, though they were obviously very busy trying to juggle multiple customers, which meant everything took longer than expected. They seemed slightly unprepared for handovers and were not completely familiar with some procedural workarounds.

Overall, they are a nice team, and the vehicles are in fair condition (around 6/10). However, the biggest let down is the aftercare—there is a clear lack of timely follow-up, with calls often not being returned at all. This significantly detracts from the overall experience.
