They charge you to cancel bookings you don’t make

I used Gleam for a single booking in January 2020, which I paid £56 for. I had intended on getting regular cleans with them, but the pandemic and lockdown hit. I contacted Gleam and said that in line with government advice to not let anyone inside your home, I would be cancelling any future bookings. I was later phoned and asked to merely postpone my next booking to an arbitrary later date to “give hope” to the cleaning staff so they would see future bookings in the calendar. I was assured I could cancel or postpone that booking again when the time came without charge, which I did. In the following weeks I then began to get text messages from cleaners asking if they should still come round next week (multiple times), for further bookings I had not made. I had to contact Gleam several times to confirm I had made no bookings. Then on the 3rd June I received an email saying that my “booking had been reconfirmed for June 17th”. I never made this booking, or had rescheduled an old booking, so sent an angry email off to them to cancel it. THEN (!) I receive a notification from my bank that Gleam has charged me £48 for cancelling this booking (which again, I did not make in the first place). They have been far and away the most annoying company to deal with during this pandemic. **NOTE: Despite the response below they never got back in touch with me to help resolve**

DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY

DISHONEST, HARD TO CONTACT, UNRELIABLE - DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!

I have had continuous problems with this cleaning company with the tipping point being they took a £48 cancellation fee from my bank account even though their website clearly stated "NO FEES AND NO HIDDEN CONTRACTS" (I have a screenshot of the website from when I booked with them saying this - I just looked then and it has since been changed to 'no membership fees'). I was told that it was because they have a 20 clean minimum if you chose their continuous clean option. I had a conversation with them saying I had to end my 3 weekly cleans due to COVID, losing my job and generally not being able to financially afford spending almost £40 each month. I cant believe that during a time like this they could still take your money in a dishonest manner when their website falsely advertised "NO FEES NO HIDDEN CONTRACTS"

Not only has that happened, I have not had clear and consistent information from them regarding the cancellation fee, and now I haven't heard back from them at all.

IT GETS WORSE!
During the time we were using their services I had a clean cancelled on me 15 minutes after it was scheduled for (I was at home waiting for them), the next time my cleaner was late and then didn't even clean the house properly (I had to get in contact with their customer services and send photos of what poor state the house was left in after the "clean"), then when i had my next clean the cleaner was 45 minutes late!!! (I had to leave a key out for them, couldn't show them around the house etc because i was going to be late for work). Then after all that the dishonest cancellation fee during such a stressful time financially due to COVID. They have no contact number and only ring you on a blocked number so it is impossible to get in contact with someone unless you do it via email (which i have now not been able to get a response).

They tell you different information every time. I cant believe how many bad experiences I have had with this company. I regret ever using their services and hope others can know not to waste their time with this company.

Hi Laura,
We're sorry you haven't been happy with this outcome. 'No fees' relates specifically to membership fees however we do have cancellation fees which are clearly stated in our FAQs and Terms and is entirely normal with similar recurring models for services like ours.
As previously mentioned we are happy to issue a credit to the value of this cancellation fee should you choose to rebook in future to complete the minimum commitment, this has no time limit.
Regards,

Used Gleam recently and loved the service. Booking was easy and my cleaner arrived promptly. The job was excellent, and my cleaner even arranged all my toiletries just how I like them 😊. Would highly recommend.
