No flexibility on memberships
No flexibility on memberships. You pick a class, you have to stick to that class no matter what is going on in your life and if you don’t you lose your money. The memberships are expensive compared to most gyms so you would expect equity in the flexibility for members but there are members that swap sessions all the time and then those that aren’t allowed to. There are strict rules in place that allow the gym to profit from life not being linear. There are some great trainers at the gym, Pete & Ephraim are very good but the gym owner and manager are rude, patronising, and use paying members classes to train themselves. I reduced my membership back in April 2025 but in May 2025 I was charged for my old membership terms and I had to approach NEST myself for a refund. Due to ongoing health issues and personal commitments I asked to swap my usual class to a different day and was told I could only do this once (read the terms and conditions before you commit) which would have meant losing the money for 1 session that month. Considering they were already withholding my refund (at the time) that had been promised numerous times they said that it was not possible to attend a different class the following month. (July). A class that I had paid for. The Manager wrote “ This situation is about gym membership terms, not any level of discrimination. In this context, equality is the appropriate approach. While it may not suit your preferences, it is simply what is in place at GNR8.” To clarify, I was talking about the inequity in their inflexibility, I had never mentioned discrimination. I found this offensive and passive aggressive. All I had asked was to change one additional class that would have gone into the following month.
I have now cancelled my membership and have subsequently been told by the manager that I cannot have my money back even though I have paid for the entire month of June, in short I have been told it’s tough, it’s in the T&Cs and therefore the gym profits from their lack of flexibility AGAIN. ADVICE BEFORE JOINING: Read the T’s & C’s or the RULES as the manager calls them, make sure you never have any unexpected changes or health issues that prevent you from attending on your specified class day and be prepared to train like an athlete or be made to feel like you’re an underdog if you don’t meet the owners level of fitness. To Note… most of the 5 star reviews on here have been written a long time ago by members who have left for similar reasons and there are 5 star reviews from the owner himself one from the previous manager and one from a coach that left. After leaving the gym I was informed by other members that the manager had used an ALL MEMBERS WhatsApp group to discuss the concerns I had raised. The behaviour of the manager is completely inappropriate.
