2 hours of Hell

I was supposed to take an exam today at 10:30 am. The servers kept crashing and reinstalling their shady software multiple times. I did the pre-checks 11 times! I was so angry I actually kicked my bed in frustration and I NEVER lose my cool like that. I finally gave up after two hours and messaged my instructor and she’s going to proctor my exam via zoom tomorrow. DON’T USE THIS SERVICE IF YOU VALUE YOUR SANITY

Absolutely horrible

Absolutely horrible. You never get in touch with anyone and if you do they are not able to assist or don’t care to. I’ve been seeking help for 3 hours and still nothing.

Constant tech issues

I had 2 exams scheduled for today. After 7 hours straight of trying to access them I gave up. The first proctor told me he couldn’t see my video on their end. A support agent told me to restart it. Then nothing would load at all. An hour and a half later I finally got through to a second proctor but he also couldn’t see my video, even though I’d passed all the system checks. After that the chat box with the proctors wouldn’t open and the lobby would send me back to the starting page. Had server issues, tech support kept getting disconnected., there was an issue with the secure browser. I called at least 8 times and got through 3 times without them hanging up on me. All of the tech support who accessed my computer told me my issues were fixed when they are quite clearly not. I would definitely have driven the 1.5h to the test centre if I had another chance. What a joke.

If I could give them a 0 I would

If I could give them a 0 I would. Horric experience. Took 5 hours just to get into my test the first time. No one comprehends English as they are not native English speakers. The second time I took my test took 4 hours. They scheduled me the wrong test and had to reschedule it with the correct test which took an additional hour. A complete Waste of time and WGU should stop using them to proctor this test. It’s a terrible experience for all potential students. Horrible all the way around!

I hate Proctor U

I had to take all of my exams on Proctor U this semester and it has made me cry 3 times because of how FRUSTRATING it is. I am considering going to a college in my hometown so I can go to the uni to test instead just because of how awful Proctor U is.
1. I have never taken my exam at the scheduled time because of technical issues or simply waiting for a proctor.
2. I took all of my exams in my apartment at my table and after waiting 30 minutes with a proctor, she said I could not take it in this room.
3. Every proctor does things different and there is not one set protocol or policy that is followed. You will never know what to expect. Some proctors want to see every inch of your apartment and others will start the exam before you even realize.
4. Customer service lacks A LOT
I hate this service:)

Absolutely horrible

Absolutely horrible. Waited 2 hours after scheduled time to take test. Transferred to 4 different proctors and 3 different technical supports. Very little communication. Called help line twice without answers. I was only informed that there were not enough proctors for the amount of people taking tests. Nothing like being nervous for an exam and then getting worked up about the proctoring company. Difficult time understanding Indian accents. Avoid at all cost!

THIS SERVICE IS A WASTE OF TIME & MONEY

I feel like I need compensation after the ordeal ETS and ProctorU just put me through. After months of preparing for the GRE, I signed in to my test 15 minutes early to begin the check-in process. Although my computer was displaying perfect connection, my proctor told me my Internet was incompatible with the test and advised me to connect to a mobile hotspot. I'm not technologically savvy and had never completed this process before, so I asked for instruction, which the proctor provided (only after scoffing at my ignorance). I tried to enable the hotspot on my phone, but I was notified that it had to be purchased through my Internet provider. I asked the proctor for extra time, which she granted, and called my provider. What ensued were thirty minutes of agony as I waited for a representative to answer my call and attempted to troubleshoot the issue. Finally, I was able to purchase and enable the hotspot; I went back into the ETS server and told my proctor I was ready to begin. At this point, she'd disabled her microphone and began sending me automated messages that said the connection issue hadn't been resolved and my opportunity to test had passed. I continued messaging the proctor and receiving the same generic responses until finally, I asked to be connected with a different representative. I felt like the proctor was lying about my poor connectivity, especially since the hotspot was showing full bars and the system check screen didn't show that anything was awry. At this, the proctor terminated my session--a nonrefundable session, mind you. I then contacted ETS, thinking they'd connect me with a proctor who could offer a second opinion and perhaps begin my test. Nope. I was told to email ETS, who will supposedly open an investigation. I doubt I'll see my $220, and at this point, I only hope I can drive two hours to a testing center without ETS telling me I have to wait before "testing" again. Do NOT use this service. The proctors are apathetic, negligent, and incompetent. I've spent six months studying for this test; I followed all of ETS's guidelines, which included downloading an app to check my computer system weeks prior to the test; I followed the proctor's instructions perfectly and was still disconnected from the testing server. Taking a test through ProctorU is not worth the blood, sweat, and tears (literally).

Invasion of privacy

Invasion of privacy. This proctor interrupted me 20 times, just took over the mouse, then the computer screen went black. Tried to log back in, couldn’t as still controlling mouse. And then proceeded to go into the Notes part of my Mac to communicate with me as the chat box had crashed. Finally at 1.45am I said I’d had enough and want to stop, she just said continue, continue finish the exam. Bawling my eyes out wondering if the passwords in notes had been compromised. Horrible

Worst proctoring experience of my life

My proctor stalled for 25 minutes in the pre-test part, demanding to see the entire room after all corners were visible in the clear photos I had already provided. She told me that the photos were blurry, but I had looked at every photo before moving on to the next photo and all corners of the room were visible and the photos were clear. She also told me my ID was blurry, but it was clear on my end. She told me that my school requires that I show her the room twice, which I know is entirely false because when I've told the school that I was required to show it twice, I was told that was not a requirement. The room I was in was completely empty except for the desk, a lamp a bed and me. It should have been quick and easy. Instead, the proctor dilly-dallied until I was completely fed up and I'm pretty sure I failed that test completely. I paid for same-day testing, and I feel like I paid for the "privilege" of having someone sabotage my success. If I could give 0 stars, I most definitely would. She also closed the feedback box before I could write anything.

Using ProctorU is absolutely tragic.

Using ProctorU is absolutely tragic. On top of the pressures of sitting an exam, expect to sits for an hour waiting on technical support. On each occasion I’ve used Proctor I’ve had to complete the login and pre checks multiple times. The program is hideous and their service is slow and frustrating. I recommend to all universities to avoid at all costs.

I was stuck on the stupid Guardian…

I was stuck on the stupid Guardian browser for an hour saying "loading". When I called technical support they sent me a link that I had to pull up in another browser and had to allow full access to my computer. Once I was in she said I should continue with the support technician via the ProctorU chat. So I did he was rude and took forever to respond. Then comes back and says my computer wasn't allowing my camera to be accessed. Which was confusing to me cause when the tech support on the phone had me log in via the link, the screen popped up with my camera and told to allow for recording. So the entire time I was on the online chat it was recording me. Then he said that he had to restart my computer. When I questioned him, he got very rude and said "can I restart ur computer now" then he restarted my computer. My computer took longer than usual to turn back on and when it finally came back up it wouldn't accept my password to log back into my computer. I had to reset my password 2 times til it finally let me back in. This crap is really shady and wish I never went this route to take my placement test!

Terrible service and support

I need to book an exam but the link won't bring me anywhere. I talked to support and all they said was they can't see my account or details I provided (pretty sure it's a bot and not a real agent as well) and then closed the chat instantly.

Please find someone else to use ProctorU should not be able to hold up peoples time and money this way If you are an online university please do not put your students through the hassle because I promise you they will not help. Proctored exams are essential to passing your courses and when you cannot take them that holds up your life the technical support is non existent with these people

horrible service

horrible service. if you are a teacher using this, you are not keeping your students best interest in mind. I dont know if they are privately owned, but i would rather sit through the DMV all day instead of use this excuse of a service agian.

- their service will shut off randomly
- no time granted back when their service shuts off
- no reading out loud, after inappropriately having to show all over the room you are in to prove you are alone
- no reading out loud is damaging and counterintuitive to all things education related. look up "production effect" which is the result of the dual action of speaking and hearing yourself speak.
- allowed notes, but only handwritten. I would assume 90% of students take all of their notes on google docs or Microsoft word. for this to be enforced is humiliating.
- adhd: i have adhd very bad, and it helps me to read out loud. to be told to shut up while trying to work through a problem in my head sets me back quite a bit, and it razzled me enough for me to have to fight through some serious brain fog the next 30 minutes.

genuinely i hope the founders catch a lawsuit

I've never had an issue with a proctor. Still, Proctor U is the worst company I've ever experienced because the Guardian Browser is HORRIBLE. It simply doesn't work on the vast majority of computers. It doesn't work on my laptop for some reason, and I can't go to a library computer, a school computer, or a work computer because adminned computers will not accept the program. Since I have no family members nearby at the moment, I am entirely at the mercy of friends, and it's objectively annoying to be asked to give up your personal computer for half a day so that your friend can download a suspicious browser that will probably leave your computer vulnerable. I've been trying to find a computer that I can take my final exam on for WEEKS now. I am literally going to have to take a 4 hour bus down to my Dad's house in Maryland because that is the only way I can guarantee that this course will be finished by an important deadline ... I live in NYC. I've had to restudy for this one exam multiple times because of all the times the Guardian Browser failed. It's been incredibly stressful and frustrating. And, they shamelessly charge you $8-$12 for each reschedule, even though the failure is their fault. I've spent 4 times as much money on the scheduling process for this reason. I'm applying for refunds now.. will update this review with their response. All in all, this company has cost me an excessive amount of scheduling fees, an 8 hour round trip bus excursion, and the stress of someone who's being hunted for sport... everyone needs to come together and beg their school to cancel their partnership with them ASAP... one day we will see this company rot <333.

Absolutely disgraceful service

Absolutely disgraceful service! My session was terminated by the proctor without any reason, and they were already late to begin with. After that, I waited a total of 4 hours—THREE of which were spent waiting for another proctor who never showed up. This level of incompetence and disregard for people's time is unacceptable. Absolutely abhorrent behavior! Their lack of communication and support throughout the ordeal made it even worse. How can a service like this be trusted for something as important as exams? ProctorU needs to completely overhaul their process or stop pretending they can handle online proctoring
