Review summary

Created with AI, based on recent reviews

Evaluating 153 reviews, most reviewers were let down by their experience overall. Consumers frequently complained about extortionate ticket prices, sudden fare increases, and unreliable train services that consistently caused severe delays and overcrowding during peak hours. Many people also felt deeply frustrated by unhelpful staff members, aggressive interactions, and poor handling of penalty fares alongside ignored customer compensation requests. However, some customers also noted that specific station employees were exceptionally helpful and polite when assisting with lost personal items. A few travellers experienced clean train carriages, reasonable off-peak rates, and punctual journeys when regularly commuting outside of very busy travel periods.

I got the 22:40 from Norwich to Attleborough. Despite the fact that I had shown the woman the ticket and my bank statements showing the transaction coming out of my account, she tried to charge me again and accused me of fair dodging, reported me to the British transport police, all after I had shown her my ticket and proof of purchase, completely unprofessional, came up to me and said she would give me one last chance as a threat, then before I could even finish the first word that came out of my mouth she said right that's it and walked away, awful conduct from a disgraceful member of staff

Awful awful awful

Awful awful awful
First off, the trains are disgusting. 'Cleaners' get on at LST with only a bag for the rubbish. The floors are hardly ever hoovered, dust is left on the window ledges, the tables are sticky and there are hairs everywhere you look down the gaps.
Secondly, the service is obviously abysmal and we seem to be paying more to go slower. Whoever does the timetables are inept at their job and dont use common sense.
Thirdly, the pricing is extortionate and what ticks me off the most is the price to change. My daily tickets cost around £48-52 for advanced singles and the other day, I wanted to change the date of one. My original tickets cost £52 but the new ones came in at £46 but Thieving Anglia then wanted to charge me £20 (for their 'admin' fees - which we all know, there arent any) which means I would have ended up paying either £72 or £98. Why? The trains are scheduled to go ahead regardless of the amount of people on it so why charge more money to change a ticket? Daylight robbery and just pure greed.
I've sent many messages asking why the trains arent being cleaned and why they've taking to locking the doors at a connecting station but get ignored. They just say over and over again that someone will be in touch but they never are.
I pay £150+ to commute 3 days. You can fly to Dublin for cheaper and it's faster & cleaner.
They then expect you to be 'delighted' at the naff new paint job they've no doubt spent thousands/millions on.
How about this: (1) I know it's hard but try to get back in touch with the real world where the cost of living is ridiculous (for workers anyway) and your fares are simply UNFAIR;
(2) clean the goddamn trains - there's enough useless staff hanging around Liverpool street every day so give them the chop to hire more cleaners;
(3) In fact, chop the majority of staff that you have as most are useless, rude, unhelpful and just generally nasty people and jobsworths. You'd save yourself a fortune and not make your customers feel like sh*t;
(4) stop banging on about needing and using the money to make improvements - there are none. I couldn't give a rats ass that you've planted flipping marigolds at Manningtree, I care about getting home quick, stress free, for a reasonable price and in clean conditions.
Why not try to be different and be the first train company in the UK to lower their prices to attract more people to use the service? I know that's difficult to process but I'm sure AI can always give you a hand if you get stuck.

Misleading car park pricing

Trains as bad as you would expect. But a new twist is the misleading car park pricing. At Cambridge the websites say the parking is 17.50 per 24 hrs it isn’t. It is 17.50 per day so if you are overnight even if less than 12 hrs it is 35.

Lied to by train attendees

Good afternoon,

We were due to get the train from Cambridge and when we arrived at the station, we were told by the train attendees at the gate that all trains were cancelled due to signal failure at Cambridge North, and that we would have to get a taxi to Ely which would be reimbursed when we made our claim for the tickets. Today I have been contact by Greater Anglia who has stated that the train was never cancelled and that we were given the incorrect information at the time. This meaning that we were not only delay by over an hour to get to our destination, but we were charged for a taxi that we didn't need to get.

I am appalled at this outcome. We have been ill-informed by the station attendees on that evening, and have now been charged for a taxi service that was promised to be reimbursed and now completely pointless. £50 taxi charge is a lot of money for us, but we were told there was no other option. Due to this, I would like to make a formal complaint in your service.

What a terrible scheme just to help GA pay less

I was on the train travelling to Liverpool Street, got stuck behind freight train and was 17 mins late. Conductor says you can claim. Now have an email from GA saying that I can not claim as I had another journey to Liverpool Lime Street. So they dont pay, and dont care you had to rush around like maniac to make protection, did not feel good, very anxious and had bad day caused by them. Saving pennies at customers expense

I’ve had a terrible experience

I’ve had a terrible experience. I was told I had 45 days to claim a refund for my ticket, then told to call customer service. After waiting for hours to get through to someone, they told me to go to the station. When I got to the station, they said I could either call or email. I called again, only to be told to go back to the station or send an email.

After all that, I then found out the information I was originally given was wrong. I was told I had 45 days to get a refund, but it was actually only 40 days. Thanks, guys really keeping your customers happy. What a waste of £27. I didn’t even use my bloody ticket.

The biggest scam ever

The biggest scam ever. I booked an advance ticket, and suddenly my journey changed, I went on to reschedule the trip for later day (mind you, the journey would happen in a week time, so it's not a big deal), only to be told I'm going to pay £23.3, I have initially paid £13.3. The most shocking thing is, if I book a fresh ticket I will only pay £16.3. I believe the new ticket should cost more than the old ticket that I have planned to change. It will make more sense to tell us we can't change our ticket to a new journey than this fraudulent way of presenting yourself to be what you're not.
