I’ve been renting an Apple Watch from Grover for almost 30 months. When I entered the rental agreement, it clearly indicated that the device would be fully paid off after 28 months.
In April last year, I contacted customer support and was told that the €1 purchase option would be available in about 10 months. Unfortunately, I forgot to follow up at that time.
Today, I was surprised to learn that I now have to pay around €130 to own the device, and support informed me that the €1 option will only be available again in another 6 months. They mentioned this may be due to a system issue (giving them the benefit of the doubt), but this effectively means I would be paying roughly an additional 35% of the original cost.
This situation is very disappointing and feels unfair, especially given the earlier confirmation from support.

If I could give no stars I would. I’ve been trying to reach customer service with no help. They’re stealing my money. I rented a PlayStation for a long period of time a then when I was ready to send back I was offered an option to purchase the device. I figured since I paid so much already I should just buy it so I did for 139.60$ now they’ve continued to charge me for months. So am I stuck paying for this device forever? I read multiple comments on instagram of people in similar situations. I’m going to the bank Monday to block all transactions from this company unless it’s my refund. Untrustworthy company, I’d stay far away from very unprofessional staff who’ve offered zero help yet I have proof I paid to purchase the device. This is Not okay.

I agree with others, I was tempted with all the hype at the beginning to get some tech in this affordable manner. But at the end I paid more than double of it's value. The conditions seemed clear but at the end instead of possibility of finishing it , it only prolonged the payment time with slightly lower rate. Better go to classic retailer even if it includes some interests rates.

I am writing this review to warn potential customers about Grover's inflexible and unreasonable business practices in the Netherlands.
I have been renting a Samsung S90C TV (2023 model) for 26 months. To date, I have paid a total of €1,315.25 in rental fees. This amount already covers the full retail market value of the device from when I started the contract in October 2023.
Despite being a loyal and proactive customer—who even reached out to Grover in early 2024 to correct a billing delay caused by their own system error—the company refuses to offer any reasonable settlement or purchase option to close the contract.
I have attempted to escalate this issue multiple times, but I keep receiving the same automated, "copy-paste" responses from "Bryan" citing a policy change from August 2022. It is legally and ethically questionable to demand continued monthly payments of €49.90 for an aging device that has already been fully paid for through rental fees.
According to Dutch consumer law (redelijkheid en billijkheid), this situation is clearly disproportionate. I am requesting a final settlement to acquire ownership of the device I have already paid for.

Update: they say the can’t connect the email. For what reason do they need my email? I attempted to get a resolution with them by exchanging more than 10 emails. They avoided accountability 100%. Am I expecting a resolution at this point? Are they willing to provide solution only if you share your story in public for PR reasons? Accountability is acknowledging that your model of charging and pricing can be deceiving when you receive proof and not claiming that your own bot can conveniently do mistakes that benefit you and I should only rely on your terms and conditions. If you wanna provide a resolution do it to your customers that contact you. If you want to battle my claims please do that, I’ll be more than happy to provide evidence of my claims to whoever needs to be convinced.
I rented a PlayStation 5 from Grover because the service advertises the possibility to eventually purchase the device after a period of renting. For someone considering ownership after renting, understanding the total cost is obviously important.
However, Grover does not provide a clear and transparent way to see the total price before entering the contract. The system mainly shows monthly payments and changing purchase values inside the account. It is very difficult to understand what the final cost of ownership will actually be.
Because the information shown in the system was unclear, I contacted Grover’s support chat to clarify how the purchase option worked. The chat confirmed that the device could be purchased after a certain total rental period, which implied a total cost of around €600.
Based on that clarification I continued the rental.
Later I discovered that the actual total cost would be closer to €730, meaning the device ends up costing more than 50% above the normal market price.
To be clear, the issue is not that Grover’s rental model is way more expensive than buying a device directly. The problem is that the total cost is not communicated transparently, and the way the system presents the purchase option is confusing enough that customers need to ask support for clarification.
When I raised the issue with customer service, the response was that the information I received came from a bot that is “still learning” and therefore should not be considered relevant. The company also repeatedly attempted to close the case instead of addressing the issue.
The two main problems here are:
• The lack of transparency about the real total cost before and during the contract.
• A customer service approach that avoids accountability for incorrect information provided through their own support system.
I would really avoid them in the future. Seriously the customer service was even less helpful than their bot.
