Completely substandard

This is my second pair of Grubs boots. The first split on both boots around the ankle after about seven months of dog walking. They were a present and I didn’t know where they had been bought from. Naively, I thought I had just been unlucky. I would say, however, that they are very comfortable, the sole is padded and the leg is not too wide and comes up quite high, which I like.

Stupidly, I thought I’d give them another go and bought a pair (not from Amazon, unfortunately as their returns policy is excellent) in late August 2024. By middle of January2025, they had split, again both boots around the ankle.

I’ve gone back to the retailer who has been in touch with Grubs who have cited “wear and tear”. The wellies have been worn for dog walking purposes, not hiking, farming or road building!

Unfortunately, these boots are just not up to scratch. Whether it is cheap materials or substantial manufacturing, I don’t know, but this is absolutely compounded by their dreadful customer service. The boots come with a one year guarantee which is worthless.

The positive reviews on this site seem to be from people who have only just taken delivery of their boots. And yes, they are comfortable and look nice but if they don’t even take you through a season and you aren’t able to walk through puddles or streams, seriously, what good are they?

Boots split on both legs within just 4…

Boots split on both legs within just 4 months from date of purchase. They were only used for dog walking 2-3 times a day - not all day on a farm or anything like that. Grubs have had photos of the faulty item and claim it is 'wear and tear'

Great so far!

I've seen a lot of one star reviews on here but at the moment I can't understand why. I bought mine in October and I've worn them about 5 times now. Mostly for walking dogs in very muddy area and today (5 Jan the big snow day) I've been out and about in them in slush and water. They have been absolutely perfect so far, my feet have always been comfortable and dry but today, particularly, they have been so warm. I have absolutely no complaints about them at all. If I do encounter an issue I shall return to this review and update it.

Awful boots

Awful boots! Perished after a couple of months wearing for an average of an hour a day to walk the dog, but because I bought them in spring (and didn’t use them all summer) they claim it’s normal wear and tear. Tried to leave a review on their website and it’s not published…. Not surprised as their website only seems to show glowing reviews!

Grubs Shoreline 5.0 Not fit for purpose…

Grubs Shoreline 5.0 Not fit for purpose and terrible customer service with a pointless 1yr Guarantee that they do not honour. I purchased a pair of Grubs on 3rd October, in less than 2 months the soles at the toes have holes in as the rubber is so thin and they have also split across the top where you foot bends to walk. Charlies where I purchased them from contacted grubs on my behalf, grubs requested pictures of the boots and then refused to honour the warranty as they said it was wear and tear!
Do not waste your money on these substandard expensive boots

Don't waste your money on Grubs!

My first pair of Grub wellingtons opened along the seam between the upper and the sole which let in water. Grub eventually replaced them under warranty and now the second pair has done exactly the same after a short time of moderate use. Avoid these boots if you want dry feet!

I purchased a pair of grubs wellies…

I purchased a pair of grubs wellies which started to split in both right and left after a very short time of wearing them.
Grubs customer service were good the first time and sent me a replacement pair , I asked what to do to help stop them splitting and they suggested making sure they were washed off and not left covered in mud and also using baby oil on them to keep them supple.
I did all of this but after an even shorter time, about 4 weeks, cracks appeared in both and I ended up with wet feet . They are no longer any use to wear. I e mailed grubs again and told them this but had no response.

BUYER BEWARE! NOT FIT FOR PURPOSE!

Purchased a pair of Grubs boots from Charlie's in Carmarthen at the end of September. After 7 weeks of moderate use splits appeared on both boots in exactly the same positions making them no longer waterproof. Grubs supply a list of "rubber care" conditions at point of purchase which absolve them from any possible manufacturing warranty claims at the point you leave the store! So on returning the boots Charlie's advised me it was unlikely they would be accepted as a faulty claim by Grubs, therefore they would also be unable to offer me a refund or exchange! Good luck if you buy a pair of Grubs boots and you have a problem, you'll get nothing but excuses and wet feet!

Bought a pair of Grubs wellies from…

Bought a pair of Grubs wellies from Charlie's stores. They cracked within 4 months. Charlie's informed me that Grubswarehouse wasn't honouring the warrenty and that they'd had lots of customers experiencing the same issues. The supervisor at Charlie's even said that "he and his colleague wouldn't consider buying a pair themselves". (I'm upset that Charlie's who I consider a wonderful company would still stock such a shoddy product) Anyway, true to form Grubs just put it down to wear and tear. AVOID, AVOID,AVOID!!!

Very poor quality and customer service

I bought a pair of wellies from grubs. I loved them to start with and found them very comfortable, after 9 months of having the boots, however (only wearing them for half of this time), both boots have split in multiple places. The boots are still within warranty yet grubs are refusing to take them back, it took them a month to give me this answer in which time I have been getting wet feet walking as I havent wanted to buy a new pair until I ned the outcome.

Both me and my son bought the same wellington boots just over one year ago. Both pairs have split, my pair split on the top where it has joint, my sons split on the top of sole. The wellington were only used to walk dogs.very very poor quality.

Poor Build Quality

I bought a pair of Grubs Fury safety boots, 4 months later the lining had completely failed. I returned them to Grubs who advised me this was normal 'wear & tear' and refused to exchange them. Very poor quality & worse customer service, I shan't be buying again.

Had the wellies a few weeks and wore…

Had the wellies a few weeks and wore them maybe 4 times. The last occasion I wore them was the first real test of how waterproof they were. 2 minutes later with my feet soaked I realised how poor they were. The long walk home in wet heavyweight socks wasn't a pleasure. Now trying to return them is proving just as unpleasant. I have already provided photographs of the soles, the boots side by side and the interior label. All of this as requested by Grubs. Now they are asking me to submerge the boots and try to identify any air bubbles that may escape.
Overall incredibly poor customer service. My advice is buy from another manufacturer

Don’t buy grubs wellies!

I bought my husband a pair of men’s grubs 3 years ago. He wore these a handful of times and then the soles split. They were out of warranty but the company did replace them after a bit of toing and froing.
He had the replacement pair under 18 months, worn them a few times and now the seam at the back has split, just above the heel mould. He contacted the company again this week and this time they refused to replace.
I wish I had checked out these reviews first of all as they are not fit for purpose. He has only worn them for cutting the grass when it’s damp and for a few days fishing! Shockingly bad wellies!

Would not recommend

Would not recommend. My partner previously brought Grub wellies which lasted years. I brought her a new pair from Charlie’s in December 2023 for Christmas due to her old ones being over 5 years. By May 2024 they were completely broken, multiple slits in both boots inside and outside of the leg. No longer waterproof or fit for purpose. After 5 months and they have broken!!! Charlie’s response - under warranty but not classed as a ‘fault’. My partner has had the same boots for over 5 years with no issues, takes good care of them like her previous pair, and followed after care appropriately for them to break after 5 months. Not impressed to be told there is nothing else that can be done after purchasing an expensive pair of boots, not even a replacement or refund. Will not be using Charlie’s again, or Grubs. My partner has previously recommended buying wellies from Charlie’s and also Grubs to fellow equestrian friends, which she will not be now due to their lack of help in this matter. Very disappointed.
