I felt the need to write this review as…

I felt the need to write this review as I went for a spa day with my mother last week . On arrival we were given a towel and shown where the spa is. When we went into the spa area I was shocked at how dirty it was the changing room was treatable showers Brocken and a man fixing it with dirty shoes and made it very uncomfortable to have a shower . The steam room Was dirty someone’s dirty plasters left by the side of the pool and the Jacuzzi ladder step to get into the pool was broken so when you try to step to go into the Jacuzzi, you could fall over. . Very run down this spa , Booking for a spa day you expect it to be lovely experience relaxing clean and comfortable it was the complete opposite dirty no staff in the end me and my mother left. I have sent an email of complaint and got nothing back so I called the spa was told I would get a call still waiting . What a disappointment and the most dirty spa I have been to worse than your local swimming pool . Please be carful when booking this place I would avoid .

We got married at Guildford Hotel

We got married at Guildford Hotel and Manor on 16 August 2025. When we first viewed the venue the grounds looked beautiful and well maintained, which is what initially attracted us. Unfortunately our overall experience was very disappointing and created a lot of stress during the planning process and on the wedding weekend itself.

During planning our wedding manager was reassigned four times. I understand staff changes happen, but the constant handovers made communication difficult. One coordinator, Sam, was helpful over email, but I scheduled several phone calls that never took place. This was frustrating because our external vendors were waiting for information that only the venue could confirm.

There were also mistakes in our contract. We were originally told that cutlery, crockery and linens were included, only to later be told this was incorrect. We then had to urgently contact our vendors to arrange these items ourselves and obtain new quotes.

When we asked what size dancefloor would fit the space the venue could not give a clear answer. Considering they regularly host weddings this was surprising.

We were told months in advance that a final planning meeting would happen closer to the wedding. When we had not heard anything I contacted the venue and was told this normally happens two weeks before the wedding. Two weeks passed with no contact. After chasing again we were told it would actually happen during the week of the wedding because we would be the “wedding couple of the week”. Five days before the wedding we still had not heard anything and had to chase again. We were then asked to attend a meeting at the venue three days before the wedding, which was not feasible as guests were already arriving. In the end we had to request a phone call just to run through the schedule.

The accommodation was another major issue. Several guests reported rooms that were not clean or had maintenance problems. One guest had a leak and my parents’ room smelled strongly of smoke, making it impossible for them to sleep there. I ended up giving my room to my parents the night before the wedding and stayed with my fiancé instead. A number of guests also commented that their rooms felt smaller than advertised.

During the reception one of my wedding dresses went missing after being left in the hallway. No one in our group had moved it and staff could not tell us where it was. At the end of the night when we were shown to the honeymoon suite we found the dress outside the door. Neither my husband nor I knew which room we would be staying in beforehand and none of our guests had that information.

We also realised later that some of our wedding cards were missing while items were being packed up. Several of those cards contained money. When we raised this we were initially told the reception room had CCTV that would be reviewed. Later we were told there was actually no camera covering the room, which was frustrating when we were simply trying to understand what had happened.

There was also confusion at the end of the evening. Our DJ was told by bar staff that he needed to finish earlier than planned. There were still people on the dancefloor when the lights were turned on and the night ended. Afterwards we were told the event space was available until 11:30 pm, but the DJ had already been instructed to shut down earlier.

Although we paid for a dry hire wedding the space was not exclusive. Other hotel guests walked into our wedding area, took pizzas meant for our evening guests and used the seating areas.

There were also additional costs including a £500 charge for the pavilion, which made the overall cost difficult to justify.

The grounds are lovely, but the organisation, communication and issues during the event meant the experience did not meet expectations for a wedding venue. I appreciate the venue may have a different perspective, but this review reflects our genuine experience of hosting our wedding at Guildford Hotel and Manor so other couples have a clearer picture before booking. Couples considering the venue may find it helpful to read through the full range of reviews before making a decision.

Not very accommodating

Paid for a treatment each as my partner and I was visiting family in the area and decided to stay here for the night to relax. We travelled all the way from Sheffield and without giving us options, the treatment was booked for 4pm. We set off extremely early however, with it being Friday, the motorway became busy instantly! We got stuck in traffic and called the hotel to let them know in advance this was the case and we would be late for the treatment. The person said that’s fine but did not offer to re-schedule. We got to the hotel 30 mins late to then be told they can only provide 1 treatment due to the masseuse finishing at 6pm! On top of this, our afternoon tea was only available until 5pm! So of course after an unexpected 5 hour journey, we were starving and because we had already lost 1 treatment, we did not want to lose the afternoon tea we payed for and ran to get some food where I was soon after approached by the manager and receptionist to rush me to get me to my treatment! We asked if we could just re-schedule our treatment to the morning but was told it was too late so we have no choice but to lose it! The stay here was so rushed, I came out stressed rather than relaxed. The staff was nice but being rushed to the point where we lost the ability to even relax was such an awful experience!

Do not book the spa

We booked a spa morning for May. 72 hours before the booking, we had to cancel as my husband had been put on a ventilator and we were not sure of the outcome. When we called, emailed, they refused to either move the date or refund. After numerous emails and blame on different parts of the hotel and spa services, we have been left out of pocket and I am currently grieving. The hotel were extremely unhelpful and left us feeling that we were at fault.

Very poor

Very poor. Changing facilities dates, no body lotion, no lockers available (had to take my personal items back to car) very little in terms of nice touches. Would not recommend.

What a lovely find !

What a lovely find !
How nice to turn up and find a clean and beautifully looked after hotel.
Check in was smooth and smooth room free and booking made for a table for evening meal and for breakfast the following morning.
We had a twin room on the ground floor which was spotlessly clean. Beddiing clean and crisp.
The bathroom had extra touches of mini supplies and it was so clean.
An ironing board iron and tea/coffee making with biscuits. With a wardrobe, safe and dressing table
The diner was very tasty obviously freshly made to order and the staff all pleasant warm and welcoming. There were four off us in total amd everyone was very happy with their meal.
The next morning the breakfast had everything needed coffee machine with every type of style needed on tap juice fed cereal toast cold meats and cooked options.
We sat in the dining room for ages after just re filling out cups and chatting. No pressure to leave.
We then got towels from reception and went to the pool and jacuzzi. This area was lovely. Had sauna and steam rooms. An outdoor pool also that was a joy. You can book treatments if wanted. The outdoor spaces are beautifully maintained.
We checked out just after 11 and we were all very happy with the stay from start to finish.
Would highly recommend and definitely come
Again.
Literally only one tiny change would be the pillows in the beds. Quite flat and hard I would take mine if stayed again. Or ask for extra 😊

Couldn’t pay me to return to this…

Couldn’t pay me to return to this place!
Arrived on site and instead of it being quiet and relaxing it was more like a night club they had two functions going on at the same time my wife didn’t feel comfortable enough to where the robe because there was so many drunk people around. I wanted to get a refund as soon as I arrived plus the room had used plasters on the floor and a congregation of cobwebs in the corners and to add insult to injury the heating wasn’t working in the room. So not only was I trying to keep warm under the covers I couldn’t relax because music was blaring till the early hours. The only thing that was good about the whole terrible experience was the food, the steak was great !! But the chef should look for a better establishment to work in because working there will only hinder his career.

Disgusting treatment from owner

I had a very disappointing experience at this spa hotel. From the moment we arrived, the service was subpar. We weren't shown to our room; instead, we were vaguely pointed in the direction we needed to go. When we went to the reception to ask for towels and robes for the spa, we were handed tiny towels and were told we'd need to pay £7 each to rent a robe—outrageous considering we assumed this would be a deposit.

Things only got worse at the spa itself. To use the lockers, you need to insert a £1 coin. We only had a £5 note, so my partner had to trek all the way back to reception. The receptionist didn't even mention we'd need coins, which would have saved us the trouble. When he asked to exchange the £5 note, he was given only one £1 coin! When he explained that we needed more, the staff member said he didn’t have change. I was shocked when he didn't even offer a solution.

But the worst part came when he expressed his frustration at the situation. A woman with glasses, who turned out to be the owner, appeared out of nowhere, screaming at us to "get the **** out if we didn't like it." We were kicked out of the hotel for simply asking for what any guest would expect—basic service and courtesy!

This place lacks even the most basic level of hospitality and customer service. I would never recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a relaxing or professional experience.

No warning about shared spa treatment and no response to complaint

I visited for a spa experience. The place is lovely but I was unhappy with the treatment experience. I have complained directly but apart from an initial response asking for my booking number, and after several emails, they have failed to respond to the actual complaint.

I was left feeling quite uncomfortable by my treatment. It was not the fault of the therapist, who was excellent, but just after beginning, when my eyes were covered and I was already undressed and under the towel there was a knock on the door and another therapist came in and said there weren't any other rooms available so was going to do a massage on the other bed. I could hear it was a male masseuse.
I felt very uncomfortable and immediately started to worry how I would be able to redress as giving the timing my facial would end before the other guest's massage. I had also placed my robe and underwear on the other bed so didn't know who had moved them and to where. I didn't really feel I could do anything about it in the moment and continued with the facial, which was all fine.

But then as expected at the end, my treatment finished first and I had to try and manoeuvre my robe back on with no top. My therapist offered me the bathroom to put my bra on but I just wanted to get out. She was very apologetic and kind but I haven't been able to get it out of my head since leaving how very inappropriate it was to not be told in advance I'd be sharing a treatment room and that there would be a male therapist in the room when I was effectively topless.

In addition, in my group of three, one of our treatments was moved an hour later than the others last minute, which meant we lost an hour of the time we'd planned to spend together.

I wouldn't recommend visiting this spa. I am very disappointed by the experience and the lack of response since from the hotel.

We had a fantastic time at Guildford…

We had a fantastic time at Guildford Manor. My husband and stepson had a Swedish massage and I had an anti-aging facial. They said it was wonderful and I have to say that the facial was fantastic also. We had the afternoon tea package and the tea, cakes, sandwiches were great. The venue is amazing with exotic plants, beautiful decor and felt luxurious. We dipped into the pool, jacuzzi and sauna, all excellent. We will be visiting again.

AVOID THIS HOTEL!!!

AVOID THIS HOTEL!!!! Disgusting treatment from the staff at this hotel. Spent a lot of money to go here and use the spa facilities wasn’t booked in how we thought so didn’t receive the treatments as expected. Refused a refund. Intimidated by the reception manager who was an older male, as a young lady this was actually quite scary. I want to get my word out there so no one else wastes their money on this awful place!!!

They intentionally mislead customers

They intentionally mislead customers. Packages will come from China. They will take forever to get to you. The mounting sizes are in a completely different setting for what my area of the world uses, making installation a complete pain. Any customer support about returns will be pointless as they ignore concerns and draw out any help. DONT BUY FROM THIS SITE

Ordered a light over four months ago…

Ordered a light over four months ago and it still hasn’t arrived. I spoke with USPS and found out that they wrote my address wrong on the slip and that it is therefore undeliverable. I spoke with guild manor and gave them the proof that USPS had provided that they had put the wrong address on the package. Guild manor refused to take any responsibility, send me another light to the correct package or refund the purchase.

Poor service

I visited yesterday with a friend for afternoon tea - we had booked for 4pm but we’re running late so we called and asked to change our booking to 4.30pm which we were told was fine as afternoon tea is served until 5pm. When we arrived at 4.30pm, we were rudely told by the gentleman working in the restaurant that we were ‘very late’. He clearly wasn’t happy about having to serve another afternoon tea at this time, but sat us down and confirmed that we had booked for vegetarian afternoon tea. He brought out the tea stand but didn’t tell us what anything was. We started eating the sandwiches when we realised that one of them was actually ham. We were also not offered the gin and tonic that should have come with the afternoon tea that we booked and had to chase it. When we came to pay he brought over the card machine with the full amount in- we said we wanted to split the bill and he said he’d already entered the full price and one of us should pay the full amount. He begrudgingly cancelled the full payment and split the payment in half. The afternoon tea itself was average but the service and treatment was incredibly poor.

A shame as it could be so much better

Good bits first - The hotel is located in the Surrey Hills the grounds and parking are all good. The room was a good size and looked comfortable [however the carpet was filthy] not a good initial sign - The staff at the bar were very helpful and attentive and the evening meal was excellent when we got the bill for the drinks and extras to which the hotel had added a 12.5% service charge - so I asked the waiter how much of that he got - he laughed shook his head and said no - I therefore crossed out the service charge from the bill signed it and tipped the waiter with cash - The hotel should not be keeping what is in effect a tip. At 2am I was awoken by a flashing light which initially I thought was a car alarm until I realized it was coming from the air conditioning unit [ we had not touched this so it was set to whatever the hotel had set it to] I had to turn the whole thing off to get the flashing light to stop after returning to bed I was then kept awake for another hour by the flashing green light on the smoke alarm illuminating the room every 30 seconds - I was unable to access the shower in the en suite bathroom due to the fact the radiator had been positioned such that the gap between the shower screen and the radiator was just over the length of my size nine shoe [ I know I am a big fella but even my normal sized wife had to turn sideways and squeeze through to get into the shower ] Hotels should cater for all shapes and sizes - I did complain to the receptionist who disinterestedly asked if I wanted her to report this to the management to which I replied yes with little confidence that this would actually happen or if it did anything would be done about it. The buffet breakfast was just about luke warm the hotel need to invest in more than just lights to keep the buffet food hot - Such a shame as it could with a bit more attention to detail and supervision be a nice hotel.
