From Beginner to Confident Player – Thanks to Bill

Bill has been an amazing guitar teacher over the past six years since I started lessons with him. I had a bit of experience with guitar before meeting Bill, but I was still very much a beginner. He helped me improve steadily, teaching me the chords I needed to finally play songs I’d wanted to learn for years.
As the lessons went on, I also picked up fingerpicking something I was only okay at in the beginning, but it quickly became a pleasant surprise how much I grew in that area.
When covid hit, we moved to online lessons, which actually worked out really well. Bill would send me the sheet music afterward so I could download it and practice at home. All of this helped me pass my music exam and gave me the skills to play more advanced songs. Bill has been the number one reason I’ve come this far with guitar, and I truly can’t recommend him highly enough!! Stuart.

A great teacher with a real love for teaching and music

Learning the bass guitar with Bill Higgins over the past few years has been a rewarding and confidence-boosting experience. When I first started lessons, I never imagined I’d make the progress I have—but with Bill’s support, guidance, and belief in me, I’ve grown tremendously as a player.

Bill has a brilliant ability to make lessons fun, engaging, and completely tailored to you. He takes the time to understand what you want to get out of learning an instrument—whether it’s playing along to your favourite songs, or developing a new skill—and he links everything back to the music you love. For me, that’s meant working on a range of material across punk, funk, soul, and rock—and every session leaves me feeling inspired to pick up the bass and keep playing.

His teaching style is relaxed, supportive, and encouraging. You always feel at ease in lessons, knowing you’re in a safe space to make mistakes, ask questions, and push yourself without pressure. Bill has a real passion for both music and teaching, and that enthusiasm is genuinely infectious—it makes you want to learn, and it makes the process a joy.

I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Bill Higgins to anyone thinking about learning the bass or guitar. Whether you’re just starting out or looking to take your playing further, he’s an exceptional teacher who will help you build skills, confidence, and a real love of music.

Excellent

It is a privilege to be taught by Bill. He makes playing guitar so much fun and effortless. My son's technique has improved by leaps and bounds.. and he is so motivated, I don't have to remind him to practice

Bill is a fantastic teacher very patient and always makes the lessons fun and interesting. My son has been learning for 6 years and thoroughly enjoys the sessions and interactions with Bill. We have switched to online lessons during the last year which work out just as well as the face to face.

Expert Guitar Tutor

When lockdown kicked in during March 2020, at the age of 43, I decided to bite the bullet and try to learn the guitar, which has been a lifelong ambition of mine. There are so many guitar tuition videos on YouTube but I wanted to source an experienced teacher locally. Bill Higgins came recommended from a friend so I made contact. With the minimum of fuss, Bill added me to his list of students.

Over the last 12 months I have thoroughly enjoyed my weekly lessons with Bill. He took the time to get to know me first, assess my abilities and identify what my goals were. He has tailored lessons in such a way that I have been learning new skills regularly at the same time as learning songs of my own choice. Bill has also introduced me to new songs and techniques.

I appreciate that I have only just scratched the surface of what is possible with a guitar, but at no point has Bill made me feel inadequate or incompetent. In fact, quite the opposite - he is encouraging and complimentary on a regular basis. He is also exceptionally patient when I am clearly doing something contrary to what he has just explained.

Most importantly, I have gained a friend who is genuinely interested in helping me to reach my potential.

If you are thinking about guitar lessons, I would have no hesitation in recommending Bill Higgins. Years of experience and expertise available to improve your playing in a short space of time.

Online lessons have worked fantastically, with the advantage of being in the comfort of your own home

Our son (11) has been attending lessons with Bill for many years. This past year, lessons have been an ‘online’ live and interactive video session. These have worked fantastically and definitely have the advantage of being in the comfort of your own home- Oliver receives the same calm, professional and inspiring lessons- and I don’t even need to drive anywhere! Bill sends sheet music, notes and his own video tutorials in advance of each lesson, and as always, gives him free choice of music and genres to play, along with suggested pieces to learn which are always pitched perfectly for enjoyment and challenge. His playing has come on so much this past year.

Great guitar teacher

My son who is just 13 has been having lessons with Bill for nearly two years. Bill has the great ability to listen to a song and within a minute to replicate this and then break it down into manageable bits to teach my son the chords and more. Bill has a lot of patience and would highly recommend.
